Those who are not reading the RSS feeds will notice a design change to the top navigation banner. The previous flash banner was over 300K and while I personally liked it I'm not too sure if having navigation in flash was a good thing. I chose to go for something more practical with a faster loading time.
What I will probably do is give you the option of choosing which navigation to display via a settings panel which will save your preferences in a cookie - probably get round to that this weekend. OK, back to the main subject of this topic...

Investing time n money on figures n gundams means that one has to also invest the time n money on some sort of storage or display space for the collection.
The house was running out of space fast so I popped in to Tokyu Hands to get some shelves...

This is the metal wire that I use to hang Strike from the ceiling. Its 1mm thick and can take up to 8KG before it falls down and pulls the rest of the roof with it - 556 yen. The flat hook fits in that slot on top of the aile striker nicely.
Figure Display (click to enlarge)
Next up is some acrylic glass colored sheets. These sheets are 320mm X 550mm and you can get Tokyo Hands to cut them down to a size of your liking.

This is the Black n Dekker cold fusion laser impulse guide which helps make sure that the shelves aren't lop sided.

Brackets used to hold the acrylic shelves in place.
Figure Display (click to enlarge)
Done! If you are going to do the same, make sure the acrylic is relatively thick or they will sag in the middle.
Figure Display (click to enlarge)
Now for the out-of-the-box shelves - these are held up with pins which are pushed into the wall at different angles so you could use these even if you are renting an apartment without leaving noticeable damage (read how you are not allowed to make holes in the walls of a rented apartments in Japan).
Figure Display (click to enlarge)
And this is how Kasumi, Nao, Mizuki and Naru are decorating the shelves.
Having the figures out in the open does mean that I need to take a soft brush and give them a good going over from time to time though. If you are feeling lazy, you could use one of those air canisters that are usually used for cleaning your keyboard and other hardware.
Figure Display (click to enlarge)
Strike has been hanging from the ceiling for a while now without any signs of falling. Strike with the Aile pack is quite large together so having it dangling from the ceiling saves a ton of desk space.

Great stuff! It's kinda sad to see that the only market for DIY shelves in US are for closets only. Looks like an interesting idea though, since all my figures and gunpla are sitting on my work desk, and doing their job filling up my desk real good.

There's a closet management system kit sold in Home Depot, but it requires drilling some holes into the wall just for mounting the base "rack" (it's for clothes, mainly. There are holes in them, so, gashapons won't do unless they have big bases). You could cut up Plexiglass for this job, if you prefer.

Looks like it's time for a trip to Pearl this upcoming day-off.

All my figures are in the open on my shelves, they get quite dusty quickly, i think dust gathers because i have a wooden floor, not a carpet, but i dont mind cleaning them from time to time.

Although, a couple of my cheaper gashpon figures have began falling over in this heat in the UK, and i have noticed that the heat seems to be making them lean to one side, hence toppling over >.<

But i geuss thats what you get for cheap figures, my better ones are still standing XD

Nice looking shelfs. Seems everything from Japan looks much nicer then from elsewhere in the world.

I got an idea on cleaning dust off of your figures and gundam. If you own a compressor and airbrush set, maybe you can use the airbrush blow the dust off. Not sure if it works, though.

I've been a long time visitor, but this is my first post. Let me just say how much I envy your collection and living in Japan. I hope that when I grow older I will have a good job so I can collect more Gundams and whatnot.

I like the old banner more. I was thinking of decorating my room with models on shelves around the room but I have most of my Gundams hanging around on a wire looking like they're going to attack each other.

Later. I'll keep visiting.

Only problem i have with leaving my figures on shelves is them getting dusty. But Cleaning them isnt such a chore i guess.Nice shelf Danny, its cool.

That Hanging thing looks cool ive some how jerry-rigged my FAZZ (MG) to the ceiling (after nicking a drill from the guys who were doing my house up) sadly that FAZZ has 1 too may falls & Ive given up having to resort to super glue so I put it back in its dark box......but on a more positive not. it was replaced by a perfect grade wing zero endless waltz custom. so better eye candy ;) Im currently working on Freedom Gundam lightning edition & a MG version of Freedom. the ceiling hangers look good :) you could model the gudams afterwards to look like their in a full out dog fight!
