Wow... They didn't help her at all? What a buncha douches. I think that's a good idea that there's a women only carriage. I bet some guy will dress up like a woman to get on that carriage.
Even though that sounds totally bizarre to somewhat, it doesn't really surprise me. It sounds that women will be safe now, now that they're traveling on a *coughsexistcough* specific train. :P But that kinda sucks that no one would help the poor girl even though she kicked that guys rear pretty good. What a couple of douches.
I guess he probably won't do it again anyway.
I must agree with all the other people that even thought this is so uncommon and weird, I’m not surprised. I guess with all the things it's hard to surprise people :-)
A lot of Anime Porn (hentai), have story lines on the train, about girls being raped in crowd trains... srry if this is too going too far... delete it if you want danny!
Before I die, I'd like to ass-grope a woman on a train. Just once. These new carriages aren't helping me one bit.
It's about time. Many of my female friends living over there, have complained numerous times about being groped. Sometimes I find Japanese culture to be paradoxial. It's like that first scene on the train in the show Densha Otoko (Train Man). Even if somebody is doing something morally wrong, everyone does there best to ignore it even when they should be standing up and putting a stop to it.
its a good thing htey have those suff now in Japan
Nothing really seems to happen when a guy gets on (if there isn't a train guy directing men away from the car entrance). I never noticed that I was on one of those cars until I got off the train.
apparently in the philippines we also have a "women only" carriage as well... although groping isnt that much as rampant when compared over there.....
那还有没有男性专用车呢?~ Then,does a car special of the man?~ それでは男性の専用の車にまだあるか?~
Yea that doesnt surprise me, although the "Dont make a fuss" thing does o.0
hmm.. and I thought ladies-only-night in a sauna was a bummer.
yea, they have these trains in brazil also. its funny that they just ignore it, when i girl gets molested... i mean could you rob half a train, with the other half sitting there hoping you dont rob them. or maybe your a junkie and you dicide to cook up some dope on the train, i wonder what they would do?? they would probably call the police, i mean if you dont grab a boobie. sorry for the rant i just think its funny.
we also have that "women only" part of the train. there was one time when a guy mistakenly (?) board there, the train did not move until he went off and transfered. much embarassment for him, much hassle for us passengers. but i did not say its a bad thing, i think it also has some benefits
I'm not surprise because it's difficult sometimes for women to stay alone in the underground at night. In france in the underground you chose your wagon for climbing when you take the subways during the night, because smoteimes there's more strange people.
Oh yea.. i accidentally got on the women only carriage once in Taiwan... (in the middle of the afternoon) I thought its a prank so I didn't get off or anything... and there are other males on that carriage... but I think it's totally crazy and politically incorrect... Does that mean XXs have more chance to get a seat when it comes to peak hours?!?!
これは東急東横線ですか? 見覚えのある色です(^-^) 男性の方はこの車両に乗ると慌てて隣の車両へ移るので、隣の車両は特に混みます(笑 海外にもあるのでしょうか?
Judging by the "dont make a fuss" and the amount of new Chikan AV titles being made every now and then. To me "Women only carriage" is definitely not a long term remedy. But atleast thats comes across as an acknowledgemnet from the Japanese themselves that something has to be done.
how sad about no one helping out the groped woman. That says a lot about women's rights in Japan, and their attitude about "public groping" in general...
Hum..."women only" is a bit strange but eh if it works thats cool. In Portugal if a guy tries something he will get more than a arm lock..lol..And things like call the police never work because people don't give a damn until it happens to them. The brother of my girlfriend gave one hell of a punch in the mouth of a criminal..lol..No need for the police, the guy gave what he stole to the old lady and crawled out of the BUS.I think women need to take classes of self defense and actually kick and punch really hard some of those guys :-D.
not really surprising much, i bet the schoolgirls still get on the mixed gender carriages so they can still participate in their game of enjo-kosai from the dirty chikan salarymen! ahh the quirks of japan!
Women only trains are typically enforced if the one of the train staff happen to walk by as they often do. They dont arrest you or anything, my friend was riding one once and one of the staff just leaned down and whispered "This is the women only train!". My opinion of the whole matter is that its a very sad way to prevent that type of crime. They merely need to create much harsher penalties and make a few high profile examples to ward off anymore funny business. The worst part of it is that most women I have talked to in the past say they hate riding in their special car. Apparently the other women tend to do 'rude things' such as eat loudly and gossip and such, at least from what I've been told. And it seems to be true, because whenever I ride during times where the rule is in effect, 80% of the women cram themselves into the normal cars, and I often glance over at the women car and its a ghost town. If they are going to force men to other cars, they should force single women into their own!
I'm just wondering... If all the gay men and lesbian women start to grope the same sex, then what?
Longtime lurker, first-time poster... When I was in Tokyo last September, me and my girlfriend accidentally jumped in one of those carriages (since it was less packed - figures). The whole place went silent, apart from the disapproving hisses, and it took me a few seconds to realize what was wrong - anyway, for those who want to knwo what happens in such a case: the train does NOT leave (double faux pas: you also cause a delay !) and some uniformed guy (railway security, I reckon) jumps in and points angrily at that very same sign in the picture (although by that time, I had already understood that this was one of the no-men-carriages (reminder: they're usually the last two)
this is a form of discrimination before u know it they will have seperate carriages for japanese people and white people and black ppl and all the other colors that are out there. stop now before it gets outta hand

I think its a great idea for a women only car if there are that many weirdos who fondle women or children on trains. Lets face it. If a person's only means of transportation is getting on a train where they've had an uncomfortable experience, than the least they can do is have the seperate cars. They obviously need to have more police or security at train stops so people can point out the pervs. Although I do agree that in the case of Nick from Antwerp, they definitely should have been more tolerant of him and his girlfriend if they can't read or speak japanese... how are they supposed to know??
COOL 4 THE CHICS!! I GUESS THE PERVES WHO TOUCH/FEEL THE CHICKS RUIN IT FOR THE GUYS WHO JUST WANNA PERVE WITH THEIR EYES!! BASTARDS!!
one of my japanese friends said dat she dosen't want to go to japan wen she grows up becuz mainly in tokyo der a quite alot of perverts
Here in Holland, "women only carriage" doesn't exist. Mainly because dutch people aren't afraid to punch the perverts. Moreover they will help other s to punch...*be it for help or the fun in it...*
Where I live, the local train system isn't that widely used...so it's never really that crowded enough for someone to "pull a move off." Not to mention, even if someone did, I'm sure that person would be kicked off, since that "type of perversion" isn't really that tolerated. They would also have to go to court I guess?
WTF, wrong with Japanese people? If it happen in here (Boston/US) that guy a dead meat.
Wow, I guess that's the negative side of Japanese culture. Nothing is perfect, eh?

when I was in Tokyo I got on a women's only carriage and nothing happened. I would have gotten off, but other men were there.
It's not suprising, and it's a good idea. However the story you said was really sad. I don't understand why are people so... why don't they help? Maybe there should be a disguised policeman in every train.
As long as "Chester the Molester" is the only reason for segregation more power to yah. We have a history of it here, but that was my parents generation.
This is a very good idea! I'm all otaku and stuff but I'd never attempt any groping/lude things...well in public, with random people ^^
Ill have to remember this so i don't end up embarrassed.
When I first saw them in Tokyo, I thought they were for women to *get away* from the crowdedness of the other cars more than preventing them from being groped. Also thought that it was for women to avoid the smell of armpits XD
smart way to deal with the kind of people who do stuff to women that are unwanted.
Their salvation from "MACHOS PERVERTIDOS DE BAYAMON!"
