#v#kof.jpg#v# I've always been a fan of the King Of Fighters series and am happy to say that the latest installment is very enjoyable indeed.
King Of Fighters Maximum Impact 2 just came out for the PS2 and is packed with fighters, cool graphics, cool musak and most importantly great beat em up game play.
Each character has at least two variations of costume and tons of color schemes to choose from - more hidden costumes and colors crop up each time you complete the game under certain circumstances. Costumes and colors are not the only hidden goodies in the game - at least 8 hidden characters are included - one of these characters being the bouncy B.Jenet. You dont have to complete the game several times before you get to use a bouncy character and can opt for Mai Shiranui or Lien Nevielle.

Having loads of characters is all very well but how about the moves? Well there are a zillion moves for each character and special moves that leave you with sprained fingers after each play. If you thought a Hadouken was difficult (which is quite easy) then the moves in KOF MI2 will have you tearing your hair out at times. Throughout the fight scenes in this clip, I was trying to pull off a "down, down-left, left, down-left, right+punch" killer move but only managed it a couple of times! I guess thats one of the things that make this game satisfying for me - finishing off the other dude with a special move. Lien Nevielle is the character you see me using and she is the only one who I have been playing with so far ^^;

Needless to say that Dead or Alive fans are bound to like this game and you can see more decent screenshots at Watch Impress.
Folks in Japan can order theirs at Amazon for 6,069 yen.

Oh and before I forget, the sound in this clip is a bit crap and there is some strange clicking noise - time to get a new video camera.

i thought the clicking noise was you tapping on your controller. :P meh. I love the KOF series but seeing it in 3d doesn't really appeal. I have KOF 99 still for playstation and the Capcom Vs. SNK EO 2.. for xbox which is still good.. if not annoying in terms of my friends using the same move over and over and over again.

Guilty Gear series is way better than Kof series.

You should try it. The lastest Guilty Gear game has been released on PS2 on Arp 13. Its called guity gear slash.

Yes, I'd have to agree that Guilty Gear rocks my pants. I just need to purchase some components then I'll be able to build me some arcade controllers for my fighting games, Guilty Gear X and KOF here I come! Dreamcast ownz j00. Though I'd be willing to give this game a run. Best eyes yet!

Opening cut scene is worth the price of admission! Can KOF really compete with Virtua Fighter EVO or Soul Calibur 3 or even Tekken5?? I'm a big fan of Fight Night Round 3 at the moment. Outstanding boxing game.

I'm going to have to say, KOF is one of my least favorite fighting games. One series that is like that ( but much better ) is Rival Schools. ( I had it for the dreamcast ) Check it out if you're so inclined.

I've been a fan of the KOF games since 94. I prefer 2D fighters over 3D fighters, and I actually prefer KOF over Street Fighter (except Alpha 3, which was a masterpiece). I haven't played any of the Maximum Impact games though. I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to playing 2D classics that have been given the 3D treatment (those 3D Street Fighter games were crap to me). I might try it out if/when it comes out in the US.

its a fun game, but still not as polished as Virtual fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur. System wise is totally different from the old KOF series, so old kof veterans might not be accustom with it. Wide range of characters to unlock, different modes to play with. Story wise not much story. Its a great game all i can say and it is total new experience for kof fans and non-fans.

Btw Metal Slug will be 3D too. :)

It looks cool, but I would have to play it first to make a decision.

The game looked great, beautiful graphics with good simple fighting until you want to get more techniquel. It reminded me of Soul Calibur II without the weapons but what I like probably a little better is Naruto: Clash of Ninjas 4. I only have three reasons for it 1. I'm a fan of Naruto 2. It has a very simple gameplay system and 3. I don't know three yet but everything must have a third reason.

Other than that great game Danny. It's best playing a new game from a series that continues from the old and still being a fan, shows how loyal you are.

Man, there's a guy here at school who always talks about the old version of this game. He's a little crazy though, so I didn't put too much thought behind anything he was saying, HAHA. Looks like a cool game though.

it's not a bad game...came in a very beautiful packaging..excellent DVD animation...shows how classy production I.G is.

Game wise, while the models were decent, they are by no means great.
Robust combo engine indeed...however, the sidestep is poorly implemented...coupled by some really frustrating missions to complete in order to unlock stages/bgm/costumes might put a dent in some end users' enjoyment.

Otherwise, a decent product.

But from an old KOF pov, this product is great because Falcoon n team have really fleshed out the existing cast. New moves, new animations, new attitude n co. Some of the animation is top tier.
B.jent comes to mind hehe. If you're a Terry Bogard or Geese Howard fan, then you should try out this 3D ver...great stuff.

Entertaining game it is...tourney material it is not (several balance inconsistencies)...that aside, I recommend first timers to give it a try.

Yup, I've been thinking about getting this for my PS2. Been playing something like 12 different fighters over the past two months hehe..

Only played two SNK titles before though and I didn't like em very much (more in to SF3 and GGXX). I'll get this game and have a look at KoF in 3D :]
