These shelves are for my Fix Figuration collection but what with the release of Guncannon and Destiny, it looks like I'm going to need at least another two more shelves to the "Shelf O Gundams" for the rest of this year alone.

While you can buy shelves in Japan, I didnt realize just how uncommon they were. One of the reasons is that most people in Japan rent an apartment - and if you are renting then you are not allowed to make holes in the wall - or the wanker of a landlord is going to charge you something like 20,000 yen from the 2 months rent deposit of yours that he has (I was charged 16,000 yen for a small scrap of peeling wall paper in on of my previous apartments).
Now even if you do decide to make holes in the wall (and try to patch it up with toothpaste when you move out), the walls in some of the apartments to rent are so thin that it wont take the weight of the shelf. Apartments in Japan are generally built to below standard - from the landlords point of view - they just want to spend as little as possible on apartments but charge you an arm, leg and maybe a kidney too.

Folks with their own places with no lousy landlord to suck up to (Do I give the ever so slight impression that landlords get on my nut?), generally dont put up shelves and one of the main reasons is the earthquakes. If you go into a department store, you are most likely to find a Tai shin goods corner (耐震グッズ) or "Earthquake counter measure goods" - things like shock absorbing pads, belts to tie to the back of a TV or monitor, poles wedge between the top of a cabinet and the celling etc - all the stuff that not only costs a bomb but also makes your house look crap.
I just couldn't be bothered with all that - life is too short to live in fear of an earthquake all the time. But to tell you the truth - these shelves are one of the first things I think of when there is an earthquake ^^;

Oh Gundam, my Gundam where have you gone by? My shelves are so empty and they look so deprived. Oh Gundam, my Gundam have you left in the skies? To seek for justice and maybe french fries? Oh Gundam, my Gundam it has to be lies, you left me for Danny's "Shelf of the Gundams."

I say forget about the earthquakes, if they look cool on those shelves (Which they do) then don't worry about 'em. But if an earthquake does happen, just make sure you throw a pillow underneath just in case they do fall. :P

Nice shelf, wish I had one like that ;). I'm gonna start modelling gundams and I was thinkin about the MG 1/100. Are these good starters and do they look cool/are of good quality:
* RX-78-2 Gundam, Version ONE YEAR WAR 0079
* Gundam Mk-II, Version 2

I think I'm gonna start with three, so wich one should I choose next? :)
(ID #34562) Posted on 2007/01/02 01:23
The new MK-II Ver 2.0 is quite a high quality model. It's got that new technology that Danny's always talking about. If you're looking for the classic RX-78-2 then the OYW version is the way to go. So far it looks like the best looking. If you can't find it, then go with the Ver Ka. It's got a modern look but not as articulated as the OYW version. Good choices by the way.

1/100 MG Full Armor ZZ Gundam

What about that one, a good model?
(ID #34573) Posted on 2007/01/02 01:23
Hmm...if you're looking for something as crazy as the Full Armor ZZ, then I'd go all out and get the Gundam S model. That thing is friggin huge and the detail is wicked. It's expensive but you can find it for good prices online.

Hey a great place to find some Gundams is on on amazon if your lookin for somethin a lil cheap that is but whatever you do don't but the MG gpo2a model. It was a fun build but there aren't any screws for the joints and the thing is so dang big it can't support itself in cool poses or anythin' which is so disappointing cause it is way cool in the series and way upsetting in real life.
