Olympus announced today that they will be launching two new products in
Japan - m:robe. The "m" means Music and "robe" means Robe as in the wearable
type.
These ipod wannabies will be unleashed onto the streets at the end of November.
The MR-500 (pictured right) will go for 60,000 Yen whilst the MR-100 will
go for 30,000 Yen and they will be initially manufacturing 6,000 and 10,000 units respectively.
The MR-500 holds a 20GB drive, weighs 210g and is a compact 109×73×21mm.
It plays WMA and MP3 files and lasts 8 hours after a 3 hour charge.
The MR-100 on the other hand holds a 5GB drive, weighs 100g and the dimensions
are 52×90×14.9mm and also lasts about 8 hours.
For some bizarre reason, the MR-500 with its VGA screen does not play movie
files and can only display photos which you have saved on its drive or
which you have taken (did I forget to mention it has a built in camera?).
Some articles on the MR-500 have mentioned that there will be firmware
upgrades to allow it to play MP4 files though..
