This is Hachiko crossing in Tokyo - the center of Shibuya. The Amazon Japan offices were located a few minutes from here which was good for me as there's lots of good food to be found. Pretty much everything can be found in Shibuya, whether you are looking for clothes, electronics, Gundam stuff - its all here.
For you fact fans, 2,188,000 people pass through Hachiko crossing everyday and if you want to reach out to them, you can use one of those huge screens dotted around the crossing. The largest screen is the one above Starbucks called Q's Eye which is 23.5 X 19 meters. Its on for 15 hours a day from 9AM till 12 midnight. It will cost you a piffling
100,000 yen per day to advertise on Q's Eye - thats the price you would pay for ad ad of 15 seconds running twice an hour. Alternatively, you can pay
13,400,000 yen for 180 days!
I took the clip with my previous
Xacti (new new one being the
Xacti C5 and was not good at taking shots at the time which you can tell from the shoddy camera work and blurry shots :-(
Below: This is what Hachiko crossing used to look like many moons ago (Sorry I dont have a date) and
this is what it looks like now. Apart from Amazon, Google is also located in Shibuya and there are more and more IT/web companies moving in to the area.
So you may have seen a shorter clip of this in the
Videos section but the code is a pain to maintain so its going to be deprecated soon - all the video clips will now reside in the Blogg categorized under Video Clips.
The kewl tune playing in the background is **chris abbott c64,Chris Abbott's**" International Karate" - a remix of the Commodore 64 game music. You can download more of his kewl tunes at
