So you read me babbling on about how the HG 1/144 scale figures were aimed at 2 audiences - the younger generation (because these kits have few parts and easy to put together and are generally cheap) and the extreme hard core modeler - Today we are going to look at some work from one of these hardcore dudes - scans taken from this months
Hobby Japan.
Below: This is
ZGMF-X88S (RGX-03) Gaia Gundam which you may have seen running about beating up other mechas in Gundam Seed Destiny.
Below: These 1/144 scale models can look really cool if you spend the right amount of time on them. If you have a HG 1/144 kit, you will notice that for example the V shape on Gundams head has extra bits on the tips so that they are blunt (incase a kid decides to put the V shape in his eye for fun - the blunt tips would do less damage). The pro modelers cut of the blunt bits and sharpen down the V shape just like this guy did.
Below: Here you can see that he has used some molding putty to move the socket of the leg higher for more articulation and also made the arms longer. The tail which is one piece has been modified so that its now articulate.
Below: You can see some comparison shots with the original and modified kit here - see how the V shape is sharper. Also notice that the modded kit is taller - all in all, this 1/144 scale kit now looks cooler than cool! (I cant wait to start modding kits - maybe I should start out with a 1/144 scale too)
