Dollfie Dream

Have always seen Dollfies at figure shows before but didn't really take notice of them until the last Chara Hobby where I saw a gorgeous Dollfie Asuka - but cost 54,000 yen...

Then got a better look at the quality of Volks Saber Dollfie in November at Sankaku - cost was 99,750 yen @.@

Quite pricey so never managed to get myself to part with that sum of money but it seems that sponsors have been taking note of my needs and now have two suddenly acquired Dollfie's - the Saber and now Dollfie Dream Aoi who retails for 39,900 yen.
Very cute tsundere type face.
Joints on figma's used to bother me but after playing with them for a while, I appreciate the balance taken to acquire an articulate figure with decent looks.

Same goes for Dollfies - the ball joints used to really stand out in my mind but now that I have them, they don't bother me at all.
The term for these dolls are Ball Jointed Doll (BJD) and in Japanese its Kyutai Kansetsu Ningyo [球体関節人形[きゅうたいかんせつにんぎょう]].
Aoi-chan comes with pantsu and a slip dress. Been looking for this outfit for her but its sold out everywhere. As you can see with that outfit - the ball joints are covered anyway when they are fully clothed.
Dollfies are said to be created from the DNA of Gaianessforn - beings from the 5th moon next to Arquantica orbiting the 9th trajectory of Gammonherth.
And just like all beings from the 5th moon next to Arquantica orbiting the 9th trajectory of Gammonherth - they only talk to the first person they lay their eyes on.
For the past few days, Dollfie Aoi has been telling me about dreams that shes been having of late and we think that somehow during the DNA cloning process, past experiences were also cloned at the same time.
Even though all Dollfies were cloned from a single being, each Dollfie is born with a specialty. Aoi was born with heavy artillery expertize and demanded that I equip her with any artillery that I had lying around the house.
Aoi has gorgeous hair that needs little maintenance - Sabers hair is a pain to care for.
The huge box that the Dollfies come in. The Dollfie Dream line dolls are 60cm tall. Dont know how heavy they are but feel more than 1kg.

Could this be the next in thing? Girls with heavy artillery in a slip dress?
A look at same clothing samples from comrades at HLJ.
Shoes at 2,800 yen. Perfect for when the Mirai-chan Dollfie costume is ready ^o^
Check bra and pantsu - 3,200 yen from HLJ.
Pleat check mini skirt from HLJ - 1,900 yen.
Alice dress from HLJ - 4,000 yen.
Thanks again to HLJ for thinking about the welfare of the new Dollfies and donating these clothing samples ^o^
And with my new found interest, I find myself looking at Dollfie blogs and shopping for accessories. Was at the Tachikawa Volks store this weekend looking for stuff.
Looking for some wigs.
The Volks stores dedicated to Dollfies are known as Tenshi no Sumika. There is one in Ginza, Harajuku, Akihabara, Shinjuku and in many other locations located around Japan.

Here we look at Dollfie body parts.
And this is what a Dollfie looks like on the inside. The material is built from Titaniloxydon - a powdery like substance mined from the 26th moon orbiting karnolthylon. Titaniloxydon has special properties enabling a high degree of articulation within a clone Dollfie and has the ability to look like the man made substance known on Earth as Plasticus.
More Dollfies in the Window. Love that Saber pose - will do the same with mine ^^;
And here are some goodies that I picked up.
First up is the L size bust - for a dannychoo.com reader who is working on the Mirai costume for me ^^;
Cost 3,150 yen.
Blonde wig - 3,990 yen. Should that be spelt Blond or Blonde?
Dollfie bases - 2,940 yen each. Dollfies can just about stand on their own but a gust of wind or fart could topple them. Earthquake ridden Japan Dollfie owners need these.
Their also exists saddle type stands too but they seem to be sold out everywhere.
A look at Sabers new hair style - have not combed or styled it yet though.
Gorgeous twirls.
Saber with Aoi-chans wig.
And a few more of Saber while we are at it. Figma Saber looking bery small indeed.
Kawaii!
The wig needs re-styling when you remove it which I have not done for this pic.
Another figma size comparison.
Have rearranged the table a bit to accommodate the Dollfies. Had to be brutal with myself and retire some figures to make space.
First time here?

I'm fairly certain they're 1/3rd scale, so closer to 1'5"~1'8", depending on the one you're getting... They're handmade pieces, and occasionally you can get some huge variation in types... Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to get one, they're horribly expensive to get into, and I've yet to find a perfect one... Might have to go take a chat with the local dollfie otas to see what I can do to get one... lol

Honestly the last thing I need to get into, but they're so fricken neat...

Notice the size of the doll costumes shown on some pictures, its stated there that the clothes are for 60cm dolls so my 99% sure guess would be that the dolls are 60cm tall :)

I really would love to have one or two of these... I'm going to Shanghai next March, any idea if these are available there as well or possible to order there by mail?

That's indeed the case~ "blonde" is for females and "blond" is for males :3
Though I don't think many people really bother with being specific, I don't remember ever learning at school, I found out searching on the net a few years ago.

Blond is masuline ref, also used in ref to the colour, blonde usually refers to hair, or in ref to a blonde woman, etc.

Personally, I'm Canadian, and follow the english english, and tend to avoid mixing it up with american english, but more or less, as long as the recieving end understands it, I don't see much of a need for all the policing~

Although, in this case, I think we've all nailed Tachi on the blond issue~ xD

Both work, but are used in differing cases~

wow dolfies are really nice. i would definitely want one in the future. the joints still kinda bother me somewhat, especially when it's showing a lot, like the knee joints when they're kneeling but i guess it's a necessity for it to be so posable. i just love aoi's tsundere face. i'm a sucker for tsunderes, haha ^^;

i'll definitely be ridiculed by my friends if i collect dolfies >.< those outdoor enthusiast people have no mercy, lol.

Heh heh. Interesting that you found a new hobby. As for me, dolls of all types aren't my thing and never have been since they've creeped me out since childhood. It's probably that vacant stare that "sees" you no matter where you are in the room. Stuffed animals and anime figures don't bug me for some reason, but I've always had a fear of dolls. It's no doubt triggered by some childhood exposure to a horror movie involving dolls coming to life and an episode of X Files much later on, but they still give me the heebie-jeebies. The worst type are the kind that open their eyes sitting up and close their eyes lying down. *Shivers*

However, it's interesting to see the level of detail and care put into the outfits made for Dollfies though; especially for Saber's. At those prices though, quality is a definite must! =^_^=

You probably couldn't swap clothes with a candy girl either unless you were very petite.

Besides aren't candy girls made for guys? Why would a guy want to wear it's clothes? XD;

he change what clothes they have on offer pretty frequently too so its worth book marking and keeping an eye on.

Ah, I see you've been to the Volks and Azone store in Radio City near Akiba station to get your Dollfie accessories, haven't you, Danny? Great place that is. Now that I think about it, I should've bought more stuff.

I actually own a few Dollfies meself, but there wasn't much interest in it beforehand. But seeing that Danny has become a Dollfie convert, perhaps I ought to take some photos of them and post them up here (with "cast-off" if the public demands it).

"Blonde wig - 3,990 yen. Should that be spelt Blond or Blonde?"

As already said Blonde only applies to females because it was taking from the french adjective, but I believe thats only in English English~ I've never seen it spelled in its feminine form in American English... this isn't surprising since American English is obsessed with shortening words. An interesting article I read not too long ago points out that the feminine form went out of use because Women were more frequently objectively labeled by their hair color than men~...ex- "That cute blond over there"- You think woman? Not man right? So only one form was really necessary and the masculine form is shorter (lazy Americans we are) xD

/done Tangent~
I like your new doll better^.^

I prefer Saber's facial sculpt/expression over Aoi's. When fully clothed (aka covering the joints up) they do look quite gorgeous. The joints still do bug me.

If you take into account the price of clothing and accessories for the dolls they are quite expensive. Plus I'm not quite sure it's really my style, not quite into such dolls or accessorizing them...
But I will admit they look terrific in their costumes and are quite cute.

Ah~ I spent most of the weekend looking at Dollfies! I'd like to get one, but they are so expensive. I decided I'll save up for a Blythe doll instead -- much more retro, much more my style.

I spell it blonde, but I think that's actually the British-English spelling (not American-English).

I hope none of you find this opinion too criticizing or offensive, but even as a female otaku, I think dollfies are one of the most ridiculous recent additions to the otaku world. Well made? Yes. Articulate and pretty? Yes. But in the end, they really look to me like nothing more than expensive dolls. Now I love figures... when I first saw how beautiful PVC figures could be made to resemble favorite characters, I got into them pretty quickly. However these dollfies just seem like extortion. They cost a FORTUNE to own and even maintain (buying clothes, etc.) and, in my opinion, don't even hold that much of a resemblance to the original characters they are designed to be. I don't know... and seeing men collect them and take care of them... as a female I think that's kind of unusual, even for an otaku.

Sorry but I just wanted to see what people thought about these points since I noticed many of you are very "into" the dollfie thing.

No offense at all. Dollfie Dreams aren't for everyone. Your opinion is pretty much what everyone in my house thinks as well. Hell, I first thought that when I first saw these on Adun's blog but....I guess its just another merchandise of your favorite character. A bit different then a mousepad, towel, or clearfile I admit but it is something unique and different that brought me to them. Figure's just don't have the kind of "prescence" these have.

Personally, the ones I own, I don't plan to do the amount of customizing and care that you see others doing on here. ^_^; If I see an official outfit designed for my particular DD then I might. Plus, I would not buy characters that are from series I have not seen or original characters made by Volks. To me, the character they represent is important My two yen.

 Now this is just plain silly. I can rationalize spending cash on figures, but dropping 500 to 1,000 dollars on something like this seems crazy to me. The price son accessories were outrageous as well. Not too mention i wouldn't want it if they were giving them away. However I am most disturbed by how many people seem more than willing to shell out that ridiculous sum of money for them. I could buy a new PC for those prices, a nice TV, a couple of next gen consoles, a used car, 20 figures, etc. This is mass madness you maniacs ^_^

Madi~ You can buy Dollfies on the Volks USA website! The basic doll (Aoi or Yukino) sells for $418 :) good luck ;)

Dollfie Dream Saber is awesome!
I have Dollfie Dream Estel Freesia, with pink eyes ^.^ but I bought her with no wig or clothes in Tokyo last week! Luckily I found a cute outfit in Kotobukiya, Akihabara ;)
