Kemeko Deluxe

Only started to read the manga Kemeko Deluxe after receiving the figures and now I'm completely hooked on Kemeko.
Last months Dengeki Daioh came with a Kemeko calendar which is filled with illustrations of the gorgeous Kemeko girls.
This is MM (emu emu) who pilots the Kemeko Mecha. The Kemeko is like Dr Whos Tardis I guess - small on the outside but has enough space inside to fit a human.
MM has a completely different personality when shes inside Kemeko.
Classmate Cutie Kurosaki Ryoko.
The hilarious n ecchi Hayakawa Misaki.
MM riding Kemeko performing the Kemeko Kick.
The most gorgeous Makihara Izumi. Mmmm eyes.
Throughout the manga and anime, we see Kemeko appearing dressed in all manner of costumes.
Not really practical as a calendar but the illustrations are great.
Sanpeita is an ordinary student living an ordinary life who keeps thinking about the girl who he spent time with 10 years ago.
One day, Kemeko bursts into Sanpeita's room with a huge Gatling gun shooting seven shades of poop out of a baddie.
So far it seems that the girl inside Kemeko (MM) is the girl that Sanpeita has been dreaming about.

Izumi (the girl with the big eyes) is Sanpeita's childhood friend who plays the "likes-the-guy-but-too-shy-to-say-and-why-is-there-another-girl-after-him" role.
The clip below should give you a good feel of the anime.
And a quick look through Dengeki Daioh which includes the latest manga episode of Kemeko. What usually happens is that manga is first published in those telephone book thick editions and after a few months, all the episodes of Kemeko would be collected together and published as a volume.
Other manga from Dengeki Daioh includes many stories with many cuties in them.
Some mecha action too.
Ichigo Marshmallow.
Some ecchiness.
Neko mimi action.
Gurren Lagann.
Also includes a couple of posters too.
And a look at the cover of the manga volumes.
Currently on Vol 2. The first volume is covered by the first 5 anime episodes.
Looks like a Kemeko rival?
The latest volume is 04. Anybody else here who is reading the manga too?
Izumi is so cute.
A bit of the first volume. The anime follows the story in the manga quite closely and even though I know whats going to happen as I watch the anime, there are many enhances to the animation which make it just as enjoyable.
There were a few scenes which were not available in the manga. There was what seemed to be a pretty lame filler scene which lasted for 2 mins but also some surprise new scenes too.

As anime is usually based on a manga, I usually prefer the characters to keep the same personalities and have the anime follow the general story outline from the manga but do enjoy the occasional differences here n there.

I have seen many complaints about anime being different from the manga edition in terms of slight or radical changes in storyline/characters. What is your take on this?
MM politing her mecha Nendoroid Kemeko.
MM as Shana.
Will post a full review of MM and Kemeko soon.

I'm probably going to have to pick up the anime now! Hopefully it won't start out really great then production goes to crap (like Frontier did halfway through).

not exactly IMO. You could throw the other 24 episode, but you must watch the final eps, eps 25. You'll have no regrets

What I meant was that then animation quality drops significantly in the middle of the series and there's even one episode I watched like, 5 minutes of and then just didn't watch the rest because the animation was so pitiful compared to before. They were able to pull it off with a great ending though, and quality improved again, so you should still watch it.

believe what you want, but the ending of F seems rushed. by episode 24, you really have no sense that it's about to end <- therefore rush. It tried too hard to tie in all of the Macross series into Frontier, making it just clutter. Admit, that the final battle is very awesome, but I still think Frontier dropped short. Although, still better than R2 IMO

The reason to that is because Macross Frontier outsourced to other production houses from other countries to do the graphic, that's why we sense a great drop after episode 5.

I generally prefer the anime follow the manga without significant changes as well - an alternate retelling bugs me, since it's not the same canon I'm used to. I'd rather they stay the same.

Of course, nowadays I usually either read the manga or watch the anime and not both, so my opinion might be biased.

I wasn't really sure what to think of this anime when I first heard of it. But now I'm definitely going to start watching it and read the manga as well.

Also, I feel the exact same way you do about how anime should follow the manga. Little changes here and there help keep it somewhat fresh if I have already read the manga, and it helps to individualize the two to an extent. If there are any huge changes made to it then there's a high probability I won't quite get the same feel for it like I would the manga, and depending on what the change is there's a small risk of the entire anime either being ruined or felling like something completely different. But that's just my opinion.

I'm really enjoying the Kemeko anime, for the most part. It really brings the manga to life in ways that just weren't possible on the page.

However, it loses all subtlety in any emotional scene and with anything remotely sex-related. In the the manga, it was poignant in its understated emotional scenes, but the anime makes it feel so awfully forced by being so blatant. Likewise, the sexual references and fanservice in the manga tended to be very subtle, but I feel like the anime beats the viewer with its added focus on sexual situations/talk and fanservice.

If it would keep it subtle, I'd enjoy watching it more.

I love that Kemeko calender, so kawaii, I can recognize most of the characters there ^_^

Since I seldom read the manga of an anime before I start watching them, if there's any differences between manga & anime version, I wouldn't be so conscious about them.
But some that I did read from manga before watching anime like Bleach, I some times just doesn't like it when the production did a 180" change in the anime............

Damn all that bonus gear is so nice. Whish we had mags like that over here...but importing it is way to expensive for me.
Personally, I think that manga and anime should always be considered separately. If an anime follows the manga perfectly, all the better, but usually shows that aren't very accurate can also be enjoyable in their own right.

For some reason, I'm not that into Kemeko Deluxe! or To Love Ru. The surreal nature of both shows is a little strange. As for both shows, I find the main, male character particularly irritating. They seem to be those 'Too young to understand' bratish type. Perhaps it's the seiyuu?

Anyways, will try to watch the show again. Though I wish MM will spend more time out of Kemeko. Frankly, a let down, as I had high expectations for this series. Favourites this season are those more closer to earth series.

Not really sure if i really should pick up this anime. Although i do admit that the quality of animation on this one is really nice but my second thoughts is on the plot of the story.
On the items, well im definitely going to wait for the full review since i do need opinions on this series.

As for changes made rom Manga to Anime...It really depends on the changes. It can enhance the experience or totally wreck it.

Yeah, it's almost identical - particularly if you look at the NGE episode when her suit inflates and makes her looks really fat. The only obvious difference is that it's marked with "01" rather than "02" which would be more appropriate for Asuka - but the "01" and its font are possible NGE references in themselves.

I also got an FLCL vibe from it. A large hand attacks a boy but then some odd robot thing comes out of his forehead (so it appears, anyway) and defeats that large hand with impressive martial arts.

I was watching Kemeko Deluxe right before a read this, what are the odds. It's pretty funny, and MM is extremely cute too. The Calender thing made me wonder, can you suggest a good japanese magazine for anime to subscribe to? Something with goodies (or at least a poster) in them would be nice. I've considered Megami for the cute girlies and the posters, but is there another you could suggest?

Like LoveHina the manga was WAYYYY BETTER than the anime version (in my oppinion it totally sucked) and in CardCaptorSakura the anime version WAS REALLY GOOD

I FEEL ASLEEP
Just watching 2nd ep when I got interrupted by a phone call. I'm really liking it so far. The only thing I don't like is that it seems really obvious that the main character will end up with MM rather than his schoolmate, Izuno (if I remember her name correctly).

I like how it intentionally uses well-known (within the otaku community) fetishes but still feels above the typical fan-service anime; Strike Witches does the same, in my experience. Whether it be the loli sister who's a great housemaid (and also a psycho, so that's at least three fetishes - oh, also incest I guess since she seems massively overprotective of her brother); the mangaka mom who seems constantly burnt out; MM herself with her long hair, tight suit (with hip-enhancing modules!) and slightly crazy heroics.

I personally like Izuno most - she's the girl-next-door archetype but done well (in the sense that I actually like her rather than finding her to be the sickeningly sweet, super-moe archetype.) I love girls with short-hair so it's nice to see one with a NAISU BODY and wearing a miniskirt.

As I said, none of that would appeal to me were it not for the fact that the show feels as if it has much more to offer than just mild titillation.
