Dark Saint

Sun 2008/10/12 12:20
This is not typically my kinda figure but comrades at E2046 offered to send one over.
A huge box arrived soon afterwards and I was surprised to find myself liking the figure more than I would.
The sculpt is gorgeous but the paintwork is especially gorgeous considering that each and every one is painted uniquely for each customer - quite a strong smell for a few days as soon as the box is opened.
Not to familiar about this Dark Saint which is from E2046's Darkness series. I originally thought she was a character from Lineage 2 but don't get any search results for "Lineage 2 dark saint" - get results for "dark elves" though.
Can anybody educate us on this? I'm not knowledgeable at all on the subject but hear that Lineage is the second most popular MMORPG after Word Of Warcraft? Any of you indulge in Lineage 2?
Dark Saint is a huge 1/5 scale (38cm tall) and weighs 2.15 kg.
Pre-order Price is 212.79 USD and the in stock price is 273.59 USD - product detail page here and more pics on the gallery page.
Added one of these to the Wallpaper Pool which is now located at Flickr until further notice. Been cleaning up legacy code and the old code for the wallpaper tool was such a pain to maintain.
Do plan on rewriting the code though but wont be anytime soon. Just wondering how many of you used the wallpaper tool?
So far I've received two packages from E2046 and both have been thoroughly packaged. But as with last time, small bits fell off but was easily fixed with super glue.
If I was to have a complaint about the figure then it would be the pattern on the base which looks *a lot* like something from nanoha...
But the attention to detail is superb - the leather like garment is really something.
And here is the questionable base in question.
As a side conversation piece, I thought it would be interesting to hear how you became a slave to the figure manufacturers and what is it that you like about figures?

I had no eye deer that anime figurines existed until I came to Japan. My first figure was Aya Natsume back in 2005 and became a slave from that moment on ^^;

I like the fact that they are a tangible 3D representation of cutesome 2D girls. Depending on the manufacturer, I also consider them to be fine works of art which brighten up the home n office (and car ^^;) and find them pleasing to look at.
First time here?

huge and gorgeous, damn that's nice

I got hooked after picking up nendoroid nagato in akihabara... which i decided on because I had been reading this site :P  I've always liked plastering my room with anime/manga/whatever otaku-ish related goodies... historically it was wallscrolls.  I think figures gave me another outlet for the instinct to turn my room into some sort of weird anime/manga/game museum. ^^;

Having played only private server Lineage 2 I can only say that the graphics is great, female light elves are cute and suit "normal people" quite well because...you can lower your camera angle and look up. To be perfectly honest though I dislike the gameplay in general. Someone who actually played the game should have more to say.

How and why I'm enthralled by figures...I'd rather not think about it because I'll probably end up crying.

I guess what I meant is that the game itself is pretty boring as it is mostly grinding. The sense of awe of staring at up skirts will evaporate eventually.

thats a very beautiful figure. only peeve i have is the blindfold, kinda ruins it if there are no visible eyes. i guess the sculpt on the lower "eyes" makes up for it.

Neat figure, but I wouldn't pay that much for it.

The wallpaper tool... Yes, I would look through there every few months to see if there was anything. My resolution is 1920x1200 though so with a lot of space to work with I sometimes like things from sites like www.interfacelift.com as they have some really nice widescreen wallpapers that I can have on the computer or TV without getting weird looks from family, friends, or girlfriend. >_>

Not my type - the skin colour disturbs me just a bit. And the length of her neck bothers me aesthetically, for some reason even though it looks perfectly fine to me logically.

Not a slave. I'm very stingy with money so my very meagre collection consists of just 2 figma and a bunch of gachapon, with 1 PVC on preorder. :P I do find myself slowly slipping and my wallet opening a little more willingly as time goes by though. Didn't know about figures, not had any interest in them until I came here - and that wallet-loosening thing probably has a lot to do with being exposed to new ones constantly on this site.

Ah~ Lineage II. It bring back memories. Besides Ragnarok, this game brings back my heart and soul in online gaming. It's not totally about the game itself, it's the beautiful people i get to meet ingame that makes it really fantasy. This feeling is something i have not be able to find since then.

If you are curious about the figure, you can check out the cg movie (E3 2004 - Cinematic Movie), which come close to it. Last movie on the list.

Wallpaper tool? Yeah I used it all the time whenever new wallpapers were posted. I'd be happy though if there was just a wallpaper gallery with a single high-res image to download (such as flickr I guess!!). I can always resize if necessary.

I actually like the base on this dark elf figure^^

I found out about figures in about 2003, but had no idea about the quality and quantity of figures available until I joined dannychoo this year. I am now a lot more picky about what figures I get in my quest for quality/interesting figures.

Been on the fence about her since I first saw the mock ups E2046 did... The price is pretty steep but, as they're each custom painted, it's probably worth it.

The only negative thing I can see is that the plastic flames look cheesy and cheap. Then again, flames are always hard to replicate...

It looks quite amazing, but I don't think it's my kind of figure; it seems almost melancholic.

I was actually influenced by your articles and news items (before the user news items came out), to buy figures. At first I only had an interest in anime, manga, and Japan; but I ended up liking figures more and more, there was a point at which I had no money to buy figures, but wanted WAY too many of them, very badly. xD So, my sister and I saved up money, and we bought some when we went to Anime Expo. She ended up loving figures after getting a couple over at AX, and we just went from there, bought more at Comic-Con and we're planning on continuing our collection. ^^

Perhaps they just decided to make their own L2 dark elf?

I have played Lineage 2 for a good year or so; in its early years.
The "Dark Saint," isn't a playable character, but more of a character from the story.
I wouldn't say Lineage2 is the 2nd most popular MMO next to WOW, as there are more subscribers for other MMOs over L2. The main draw for L2 is how good the graphics look, and its elegant art direction. As for gameplay... it's a huge time-sink. (Max level cap was 80 last I checked, and Lv 74-75 will take you a good 300+ hours)
-
Also, for that Spell-circle you've mentioned Danny; perhaps it's not 'copied' from Nanoha or vice-versa. It may just be that the spell-circle itself is from an old scripture of dark/black magic or witchcraft, and both companies have used it as source material.
-

L2 isn't that much of a time sink until you hit 79+. You can powerlevel through 40-76 in about 2 weeks time if you know what you're doing. 79-80 sucks though, took me around 90 hours to gain enough exp to get there and I did it twice :<

Maybe gameplay has changed significantly since I've played. I noticed they have added a lot of things to make the game easier and more attractive to new-comers. I stopped playing either at C2 or right before C2 was released. I specifically remember taking 1 week exactly to get to lv 40, and that's play about 16-18 hours a day grinding in the best spots with top level gear available at the current time. I've done it on 2 alts, SR and SE, since I had a dwarf main that can provide. Then it took another good half or 2/3 a week to get to 49 in cruma tower. I still remember the time where my guild had control of a Cruma Tower room for an entire week straight, taking turns being party leader and rotating people out. (I was up for 18 hours, 6 hours of sleep this week, so just needed someone else to hold the room for me for 6 hours every day, heh.)
As it was my first MMO I was very enthusiastic about it and played it every waking moment for about a good 6 months, starting with Beta.
Nowadays, you don't even drop gear when you die, there are blessed res scrolls so you recover lost exp from dying, etc. I personally love how you can out-right kill anyone you didn't like in game as long as they weren't in town. It'll flag you as Red, (Anyone can kill you without penalty, and you drop items.) but the fact that they allowed you to do that was greatly appreciated by me. If you manage to kill someone without any witnesses you could run away from chasers and kill enough mobs for the red flag to go away. =P I have done it a couple times, although dying is the easiest way to get rid of it. best way is to give all your items to a friend and have them kill you. Sure you lose exp, but with blessed scrolls nowadays I don't know how that turns out >.>

I hear you. It's really a shame that NCsoft listened to all the whiners out there and attempted to turn L2 into another WoW clone. I was around starting from CB, and just recently quit. I miss those Cruma days, when Prophets were better than Bishops, when no one knew what a Sword Singer was, or the fact that anyone with 107 D grade duals were considered DD's.

I believe that Dark Saint is part of their Ori collection over at e2046 so it's one of their completely original figures, based off some artwork. I was interested in their Kanu with bike but then I found out that they put a dragon tattoo on her body. DO NOT WANT!

Out of the prepainted stuff from e2046, I have the Asuka on bike and can tell they use either enamel or lacquer paints for their jobs. otherwise, they would never be able to get the paint that damn smooth.

I would say first impression : Scary figure
second impression : A fine work of art
third impression : At that price i'll let Danny worship it at his place ;)

A bit too goth maybe, blindfold just ruins it in my opinion.

Damn! That's a serious piece of work...just looking at the details makes me drool. It's kinda in a big scale yeah. It's gonna crap out my crib (if I was to get one) since I'm staying in a really small room *sadness*.

Though its' nicely detailed, i find it out of my price range, it it wouldn't go well with my theme that i seem to have established unknowingly.

I really enjoy the wallpaper tool. I would like to see more images in there, but i am more of a fan of walls than most i guess.

Oh and the figure question: I really got hooked on them after watching Haruhi and buying the great Max Factory version that everyone seems to own. Prior to that, i really only looked for Evangelion stuff. Mostly revoltechs and such, so discovering Haruhi led me on to Clannad, Shana, Fate/stay, and many other series that have such adorable figures. With the Evas i wasn't really obsessive in the way i went about it, but after Haruhi i really started to learn about figure makers, where to purchase, even the sculptors now! So about a year ago that all began.

Amazing cast, holy crap how'd they get that to look so leathery. This one in particular is not really my style but fine works like this are certainly my type of figurines. How I got into figurines you ask? I don't know, maybe it was when I got into warhammer40k as a kid. I just started collecting anime figurines as soon as they became easily available to me about half a year ago.

Pretty much the 'Dark Saint' is actually the character featured in the E3 2004 - Cinematic Movie. You can find that movie under L2's official site under movies it is the last movie under Chronicle 3.

*geeks out over the textures* Must've been a pain in the ass to sculpt all of that detail!

For me, I think my love of figures has its roots way back when I was a kid. I loved being able to pick up a toy version of one of my favorite characters; something about holding them in my hands just seemed to bring them to life. That carried over into figures. However, since I'm also a bit of a hobbyist sculptor myself, I tend to favor figures that are articulated (since I can't do that myself) or ones that have just incredible, gravity-defying sculpts (since I haven't figured out how to do that yet, and I almost feel obligated to show respect for anyone that can do that.)

Very beautiful fig! It may not be the normal 'moe' ones but, I can appreciate the work on this fig. Sadly, I don't have the kind of money to afford it right now ^^;
I guess I'll admire the art from my pc screen then XD

WOW!!! I don't have any figures yet (being a gunpla and model planes fanatic) but this one might very well be my first figure, she looks gorgeous and the attention to details is perfect (as far the pics can show). Expensive, but seems to be worth the price.

I like the armor detail very much, but not liking the character at all. All the others are much better and so far I have Dark Elf GSC, and Elf Ranger gathering prepainted , soon to have the Dark Magician, they're all great.

One thing that is quite disappointing is the scale, they should just make all the lineage characters same scale... They already have Dark Elf, Elf Ranger, Dark Magician, Elf Princess at the same scale, and they just have to make this one scale differently from the others.... (or else I would've bought it too) :P

I would definitely buy more figures in this vain as opposed to much of the bishoujo game designs so prevalent today.

Not for me, it's to big. I never buy figures above scale 1/7 (30cm). The bigger they are the more space they take. From figures i have almost everything from ghost in the shell and every figure of shunya yamashita, big fan of them. I dont like revolt figures or action figures. If i buy some it would be of robots or mecha because that kinda style/figures look more realistic with joints.
