Spotted the kit version of this Kurushima Kanu Uncho at a previous Wonfes and immediately fell in lurve with her. I tried not to fall too much in lurve with her because I cant make kits.
Luckily, the good folks at Kurushima decided to release a fully painted cold cast version of her. Even luckier, I was able to acquire one from beNippon ^^
This is the first cold cast figure in my collection - previous to owning her I had no idea what they were like.
She came thoroughly packaged in polystyrene. Her fringe, right arm and swirling hair had to be assembled with some super glue but no biggie.
Kanu's weapon of choice.
Shes quite heavy and cold to the touch. Not too familiar with the processes involved but I hear that cold cast kits are made without heating up the liquid before its poured into the cast? Any experts here that can give us a lowdown on PVC, ABS, Resin and Cold Cast?
Theres not much shadowing on her skin so if you want her curves to stand out then you are going to have to place spot lights near her.
Its been raining in Tokyo for the past few days which is why today's figure shoot is indoors but would like to take some more pics of her when the sun is out.
She comes with a what appears to be a heavy polished wooden base with a hole in it - her right foot has a metal peg in it which holds her in place.
And to answer the question of why there are so many Kanu figures - I dont know the exact answer but after speaking to figure making comrades, it seems that its not only easy to get a license for the Ikkitousen girls, but also easy to get approval to make figures of them with their eyes hanging out all over the place ^^;
A figure maker first has to get permission (license) to make a figure. The maker then makes the figure but then still has to get final permission before it goes into production.
This is the reason why you see "No Photos" or "監修中" [かんしゅうちゅう] next to figures at a show - it means that they are still in the process of getting final permission to put the figure into production.
Some license holders will say "yeah sure" but some will say "change the color of the pantsu" or "make the skirt non-castoffable."
A perfect example is the Max Factory scale Haruhi Figure. The pantsu color was originally orange and notice how they ended up gluing the skirt down - even though they designed the figure to be castoffable.
Now back to the Kurushima Kanu figure.
If I had any complaints it would be that they made the pupils to prominent - you can see them a mile away through her torn sailor fuku! ^^;
Not really a complaint but would have preferred a more moe expression.
Her loose socks could be more loose though.
Shes standing at the moment to the left of my Apple Cinema display with the light shining from below the glass table looking very smexy indeedee.
One of my fave shots.
Survival Japanese time.
"Kirei na oppai desu ne" [奇麗なおっぱいですね] = "What a nice pair of eyes you have."

You should use this the first time you meet a nice girlie.
Survival Japanese time 2.
"Kirei na oshiri desu ne" [奇麗なお尻ですね] = "What a nice bottom you have."

You should use this the first time you meet a nice girlie or chappie.
Survival Japanese time 3.
"Kaminoke kirei desu ne" [髪の毛ですね] = "What lovely hair you have."

You should use this the first time you meet a nice gorilla.
"Ketsu" [ケツ] is another form of "bottom" but is a bit vulgar and should not be really used.
"Shitapai" [したぱい] is the word for the bottom part of eyes ^^;
Your kinda figure or showing too much for your liking? Which brings me to a question - do you hide any of your more sexy figures when your parents/friends are about? Do you find yourself replacing the skirt before folks walk in your room?
MM grabs a bite to eat.
Hmmmm. You can almost smell her fart. Ah, my mistake. Kanu does not fart.
Kanu is 1/6 scale, 26cm tall and retails for 20,790 yen.
Caption that photo.
Which do you prefer - this Kurushima or Alter Kanu Uncho?
Thanks once again to beNippon - unfortunately this is sold out but beNippon have other Ikkitousen goodies.

So many Kanu figures... thanks God I'm not much an Ikkitousen guy.

All my figures are exposed, but it's kinda unfair since I live alone, and they are not that much ecchi... they are mostly cute.

But I do have some figures I want that I'd have to hide. But they are far far worse than Kanu figures... :P

Danny, you're honestly complaining about perky nipples? ^^; I gotta say, even though I'm just starting out in the figure deal here, I don't think I could bring myself to spending that much on a figure. I was reading on the forum the other day that someone was after the Revy Alter figure, and was hunting it down on ebay, well the auction for it ended at 200+ dollars! Insane!

As for the Caption I have to say -- "I've always wanted to film the grand canyons" -- Yeah I know, not very good.

I hope they make a PVC version of that, though it doesn't like it will translate well into PVC. And far as I know, PVC, ABS and Resin Figures are pretty much injection molded where in the plastic is in a liquid state and forced into a cast with pressure. Whereas Cold casting they use plaster molds meaning epoxy, like the adhesive we could find in hardware stores, are poured into a cast and are just air dried.

I usually come home with a figure and show it to my sister and my mom. My mom then lets me know if she likes it or if she's going to toss it out with the garbage if she sees it on display in my room. In those cases I leave them in their boxes and put them in my closet. I know its sad but at least this way she won't throw them away. For her if its too revealing its not allowed to be shown and if its got plenty of clothing then its thumbs up, my dad just agrees with my mom on those sorts of things. I only take them out when I'm home and can protect them. Once I finish my finale 3 semesters at Fresno State and get a better job my friends and I are moving into a house that a friends father has for rent. Luckily I got a few years of job experience and getting good pay will be relatively easy.

As for Ikkitousen figures, I like some of the girls but I guess I won't be getting any for a long time.

So Danny got a cold cast eh?

I remember one of the old regulars wrote an article on their blog about the different materials used in figure making but I can't remember who.

In any case, Cold cast is sort of in between resin and PVC. As the name suggests, the material is cold before being poured into a mould and it hardens gradually over time. This allows the maker to get some pretty clean parts out of the mould and also allows them to mix in some colour to the material, something you can't do with regular resin. but the level of detail possible and strength of the parts is comparable.

Prices are pretty close to resin tho...

I really like those photos- you do great work with lighting effects. Something for me to think about when I draw- how to make the lighting appropriate for a scene.

Also, thanks for those notes on why so many Ikkitousen figures are made. It's interesting to note the differences between the various licensors and how they go about with licensing. My only hope is that more of the series that I like are willing to give more expansive licenses and are as easy to work with. That way, I'll be ensured to have more figures of characters I really, really want.

if polystone = coldcast, then i have two figures made of those. one is sonsaku, and the other is yasumi chan. And both are sexy figures which i display prominently in my room xD. Even if someone was to come to my home, i wouldn't even try to hide the figures.

I have to say the Alter version is still better. Alter always seems to do a good job on figures.

Wow the figure looks awfully good. I would like to finish the figure I am making and make a cast for it, but the amount of time it takes is quite frustrating.

I keep all my figures out and don't put any away. My mom loves my figure collection, which is twenty shades of weird. Whenever she comes to my apartment she looks at them all, though she's not been around since I got Ringo or GSC's Chu Chu Astram.

I think I prefer the Kurushima one because of the arching pose. Maybe she needs a tad meaner facial expression tho to be more "in character" but that's only my opinion ^^

currently don't have to hide any figures since I'm selective of what I put out since. Most are boxed and awaiting the day I move out and get a couple of Detolfs.

I picked up the Hobbyfan edition of this figure for the added skirt and castoff ability

Another Kanu figure? It seems like when I search for kits these days, kanu ones are all i can find. Regaurdless, its still a very nice figure. Seems pretty big, it makes figma Kyon look like he's in the amazon jungle, and is documenting the native amazonian lifestyle.

Generally I dont hide my figs or anything from people, unless it were my grandmother, whom I would not want to see them, because she's crazy and would ask to many questions, my folks on the other hand have learned to live with my strange hobbies.

I'm currently hiding 5 figures from my parents. It's not that they don't approve of them (My mom thinks Saber is cute, but doesn't like Rin for some reason), it's more the fact that they think I spend too recklessly on apparently useless stuff.
