Resin Kits

Now we take a lookie at the resin kits.
Have been attending the wonfes for a few years now and a large percentage of the kits on display/sale seem to be the same.
This time round I only took stuff that I have not seen before which tickled my fancy. You can see coverage from the past few Wonder Festivals in the Wonder Festival archives.
You can get pretty much all the Wonfes coverage from going to Robomoe and Rinou and clicking on all the links in the top half of the page.
Kotatsuga also has a ton of links in his right column.
I know many of you can make Gundam kits but would you trade in your mecha making skills to be able to make figurines instead?
Done a search for wonfes and wonder festival and I show up as the second result for both searches - am not sure whether thats because of my previous search history and was wondering if you could help tell me where I show up in your results.
Google is a strange beast to understand.
Looks like a few of you have already noticed that I upload photos to my Flickr account a few hours before I release it here.
You need to be logged in to Flickr and set your preferences to show you any content that I have flagged as "adult."
Add me as a contact and you will get the updates as soon as the images are uploaded to Flickr.
Still got quite a few bits n pieces to come including the ecchi and mecha stuff so stay tuned ^^;
First time here?
If you are new here, you may want to keep up with more of the same via RSS or Danny's other networks. (dont show again)

Seriously.. if you can hand paint you can airbrush. The big super secret to airbrushing is. Thinning your paint enough. And cleaning the damn thing. Thats it! Outside of that.. Its point and shoot. Keep your air pressure around five to ten pounds of air at most. And your generally fine.

I have had my fair share of building resin kits but not as good as these, not by a longshot. I wouldn't mind trading my Gunpla building skills for better resin kit building skills. The way I see it, if you can build resin kits, Gunpla shouldn't be as difficult.

I would really want that Pastel Ink Echidna Cosplay from Bubba. It's a shame his kits aren't made into mass PVC production. The only one I can remember is Max Factory Etona.

Wish his space yuki gets the PVC production too. I think it made another appearance in the event.

I wish I knew how to airbrush figurines.

Maybe when I'm 50, retired and have a lot of spare time on my hands, airbrushing figurines doesn't sound like a bad hobby to keep my hands busy. Beats gardening or stamp collecting any day.

Had a look at the resin kit selection from other sites and Yahoo! Japan Auctions and none really tickled my fancy this time round. and a lot were resales of older kits seen elsewhere or minor modifications. The Shirley Fennette by Ryun Ryun Tei just had a different sculpt for the coat and a change to the facial expression. The pose and positions are all the same as the swimsuit model sold last year.

Quite worrying since the Summer wonderfestival is usually the biggest event for resin kits...

I am a little curious as to what the taimanin Asagi figure looks like from the front tho...

As for model making skills - i used to make airfix kits, but nothing since then. Id rather stick to PVC - less hassle, and better quality than i can make them!

Some really good ones here, and some which just look wrong. The Rei on motorbike ones are great (by Vispo). Interesting to see resin kits still going strong despite the upsurge of ready-painted PVC these days. What's the schoolgirl with her rear to the mirror all about though...? as if I didn't know...

Those are nice shots with the dramatic lightning.
I really wonder how I could paint these things so good that it looks just like in the picture. Must be hard, and probably have to paint over it again to get it right ;p
But those are some very nice figures though ;p

About those google searches, it really depends on many factors: the location from where you do the search, at what time, etc. If you search "Ayumi Hamasaki Concert tour 2008" in google, my blog sometimes hits the first spot. Which I find very weird, but at the same time I like it of course ;p Google Webmaster Tools are nice to get a list of searches that lead to your site and at what place you are ranked in that search. That combined with Google Analytics, it's a stats-junkie's heaven ^^

Thanks for the pics, Danny! The Saber with guitar picture is especially striking from a compositional and production perspective.

As for me, I build both gunpla and figure kits, though I'm not great at either. Like all hobbies, I'll get better eventually. I use acrylic paints for my figures, so it's really easy to re-do them later on when I get better (already done that to a few). The only real downside is the price, but I've been trying to get stuff on sale where I can (HLJ and Hobbysearch sometimes clear out old stock, for example).

Ooo I like the CC and the Saber with the guitar.

I don't think I could build these things mostly because I'll never have the skills to paint them to look like that!

I'm getting DC as the #1 result when I search wonder festival but #2 when I search wonfes. I wish I had more cash to invest in Mecha. Pretty much everything artsy is beyond me.

I honestly wouldn't trade in my gunpla making skills as I've seen with quiet a few resin kits get a prepainted pvc version later on. That and the fact in a couple weeks I'll be getting the required things to make resin kits so in due time I'll have the skills for both mastered.

Out of all those above I only saw two I wanted.

Not so sure I would want to trade in my Gunpla building skills to build better resin figures. My wife doesn't appear to be to keen on figures... Some are ok, but many she doesn't like. I have been working on my figure photography skills as well as, looking for ways to make her feel ok about figures. Maybe if I find a way to make profit from figures she will not mind so much. Yes, I also want to improve my resin building skills as well.

Anyhow, I see several kits here I wouldn't mind building. From what I have seen, almost all the Yoko figures have been resin. I think the better ones have been as well.

Would like to build the Lucky Star set. I heard those sold out fairly quickly...

With a really talented painter you can make resin kits look completely unique. E2046 is a gk shop and they have people volunteer to post up galleries of their work in the forums, and some of the paint jobs are absolutely incredible.

I have a some of my favorites bookmarked if anyone is interested, just uh send me an email ^^ u can find it through my blog ~

I been hand painting my resin kits but I still got a whole lot to learn. I'm never satisfied with how the eyes turn out but they been getting better ^.^

Got you second on my Wonfes search Danny, In fact most of the times I use google I end up seeing you within the top 5.

Sometimes I cant help but wonder why even though the ability to make an anime face into 3-d has been perfected by so many figure manufactorers, animators, etc. there are still so many figures with strange looking faces. Seeing as the face is generally the focal point of a figure, I find it strange that even at wonfes, I am seeing many with this problem.
Does anybody else have any thoughts on that?

The first pic of the Lucky Star girls in their cheer outfits look so awesome!!! The Kagamin X Tsukasa in their cheer outfits is from one of my favourite pictures. Others that tickeled my fancies are the some of the Yoko, Geass and Nahoha (I mean Fate (A's)).

I can't make Resin kits to save my life, neither have I tried. Paying someone to do the jop will be just too much money spent.

Resin is fragile but it can look A LOT better if painted by a talented painter. I put some pics of my favorite resin kits in my blog from E2046's galleries.

I wish I knew someone that could make resin kits. Then I could get them to build and paint that Motoko statue and many other Love Hina kits, oh and Sailor Moon and maybe a nice statue from Full Metal Panic!

I hate resin kits since all the ones I want don't become PVC.
