Still got quite a few goodies to show you from the Good Smile offices but thought we'd take a short break today for those who are not here for the figures. High res version at YouTube.
Results from a previous poll did suggest however that most of you didn't mind the figure coverage. What I would like to know is whether you don't mind periods of constant figure coverage.
Another thing I would like to ask is whether you read all articles? If you don't, what types of article do you skip?

One of the reasons why your feedback is important to me is because the site is going to receive an imminent redesign - details in the Portal Userbility news item.

Understanding whether you read all articles or skip some (and what types) will enable me to decide what default settings will go in your personalized portal page.

Ah, nearly forgot to talk about the video - just a few clips thrown together - I particularly enjoyed the expression of the man on the train - you will get a better look by going to YouTube and clicking on the high res version.

Thanks to Hector for taking the clips.
First time here?
If you are new here, you may want to keep up with more of the same via RSS or Danny's other networks. (dont show again)

I have no problems what so ever with the amount of figure coverage. I do not consider myself a hard core collector of figures either (I only own one). I generally read most of the articles presented on the site (submitted by Danny), but prefer the ones relating to Japan. I tend to quickly skim through most of the member's submitted sections with little or no reading, unless I see a quality post.

My feelings pretty much echo thedegeneric's. I like the figure coverage, though I don't spend thousands of dollars a year on them, but I prefer the Japan coverage. I skim the member news and read articles that grab my attention, but I read all the Danny posts.

I love the contrast in reaction when on the train and being out in the open. haha. As for articles, I'm not really into collecting figures so I usually skip those unless I think the figure itself is aesthetically appealing. I mainly like your articles about everyday Japan and your trooper vids.

O_o The people on the train don't mind you at all! I wonder if I dressed up the same and rode a train here. I probably wouldn't even be allowed to get in XD

I read every new article that pops up but I only comment on the ones that I can relate/understand x_x

I don't really like anime. I'm normally here to read the idols portal and the Japan portal and the trooper portal and i tend to read the users news as well. Sometimes i do tend to skim threw the figures portal and such but i am mostly here for the portals i mentioned before.

i do exactly what melo does. i skip the figurines unless they look extra-cool to the non-collector, and read most of the japan and trooper ones. amazing place you've got here, keep it up...

and, while i don't read them, i actually kind of like having them around... thanks for all the work.

I actually read all articles on Japan and figurine ones when I like the front image. I normally skip the rest. In terms of polling, I'd like to drop a small suggestion... why don't you do a page dedicated to a few questions you really want to answer. Keep it going for a while maybe... and structure questions so that there is no "middle way."
Things like, "if you had time only to read 1 article, would it be the latest on japan or on figurines?" That way, you don't get the "middle of the road" answer that all humans tend to normally gravitate towards...
A series of those kinds of questions might help you with your redesigning, maybe...

Constant figure coverage is no problem by me, but I'd like to see more photoshoots like there have been earlier, dedicated to one figure. And of course I love the more detailed articles about living in Japan. Oh and check the userbility article for my thoughts on the new design; it looks very promising.

The only thing that kinda bother me is that, when something is eddited on ar article/news item, it appears again on the feeds, and sometimes I have 3 or 4 times the same article there ^^'
But regarding the kinds of articles that I read, I mostly just have a quick read at Gundam news, because I'm not that into Gundams (yet o.o)

I don't mind the figure coverage since it's a niche always well covered by camera-owners.
But I don't want to see your site figure overloaded.  True enough, I started collecting because of reading all about what's involved;
if the same treatment were given to Gundam I think I may be convinced to build gunpla -_-;

I do like historical articles, such as those reflecting on the status quo, and anything good to know about life and life in Japan.
I don't skip many articles, but I try to limit commenting to only when I want to be heard.

Re: quality control
I try to hold my tongue, even in regards to adminning: seeing members failing things such as not linking properly in posts (syntax errors, and to top page instead of blog page, etc.)
This also includes members abusing news uploads for serialized or periodic updates; they could probably do better publishing elsewhere unless popularly approved.

I'd say dannychoo.com is pretty well balanced between figures, Tokyo Trooper and all the other stuff. It's probably a good idea to keep covering more than just one single thing, as this way there is always an element of surprise when checking this page. If it would be just about the figures, I'd only visit when I want to look at something figures related, but this way I visit every day just to see what's the newest topic. It's a sort of trap (TRAP!) that lures you in and while you're here, you might just look at the pretty pictures and read the new articles.
Altough I'd say the most important feature for me is the Danny's News section on the left. It's an easy way to check out what's sort of new Nendoroids and Figmas are coming. ^^

Unbelievable how opinions can differ! ^^; I love figures (huge Shunya Yamashita Fan) and Idols (or lets say women) but it's the last thing I'm here for.

The most important aspect on this site is that there's a guy who successfully migrated to Japan without any real advantages, just through hard work, his dreams in his heart and his ideals and mottos in mind.

Things I want to know (and why I'm visiting your blog) are found in the following two categories: Japan and Trooper. These two categories show me everything about your past, present and future life. How you did it, what you are doing right now and what you are going to do. What it means to life in Japan, why you choose it and if you regret it sometimes and why not most of the time. What you see and experience (week in Tokyo, photos of Japan, living in Japan) and how crazy you and everything over there can be (Trooper, and so on). That's what makes your site unique and is the reason why I love it. It's like reading about another world, like living your dream together with you and maybe being motivated.

Figures, Gundams and Idols are important of course, because they are two of your hobbys you are most passionate about. BUT not because you are a reviewer/editor! You should always write about them keeping that in mind in my opinion (your office tours, events and so on are great). But what I would hate more than anything else would be you starting to write simple reviews at costs of your reports, thoughts and experiences around your life in Japan. Simple figure and idol sites are ten a penny, but there’s only one Danny who lives in this fascinating country and can write about it in detail...

Figures, Gundams, Idols in addition -> APPROVES !!!

At costs of the other topics -> NOOOOO Danny … PLEASE NOOOOOO :’( *just about going to die*

Sorry for this long comment, but it was really important for me to tell you what I think ^^

I originally came across this site when my wife and I were looking for more information on living in Japan, and Japanese culture, as we want to learn more and one day visit, or even perhaps in the far future move there. The week in Tokyo series of videos and the articles about living in Japan and such were the main things we came here for. Then of course, we came across figma and the good smile company tours and I decided to register after a while of reading the articles. I only skip over some of the gunpla/gundam stuff cuz even though I like mecha sometimes I just never found myself into that sort of thing. I come here on a daily basis to see what's new and I read a large amount of the articles or at the very least browse them over. I like coming here for the variety of surprises that may await me every visit.

I only read the Japan, trooper, gadget and anime related articles. I tend to skip the figure related ones (as I don't collect them) unless they look visually and aesthetically appealing to me. In most cases I would just scroll down the pics and move on another article without reading. I also read the news items from both Danny and other members, usually by judging from the thumbnail. For me constant figure coverage means taking a few days break from checking the site / skimming through older articles that I find more interesting. ^^

mostly I skip the figure coverage because it's not really my interest, but I read it some time just to be aware and when it's about mecha (very rare this time) for the design. I'm here first and foremost for ur daily life in this funny town of Tokyo (or maybe ur funny life in Tokyo). By the way how can japanese folk ignoring u dress like that in the train? U do that in The parisian subway, will be a superstar in the wagon (if u plan to do it one day in Paris let me know, it will be my pleasure to be ur cameraman with my Xacti 1000)

Oh btw on your vid, I love how people just automatically gather around you to start taking pictures with their camera phones. Great stuff. Oh and in the end the girl on the right side of the video was looking pretty cute. Danny you player you!!

No problems with figure coverage.
And I only don't read articles in 2 situations:
1- Don't have the time to, and the article is too long.
2- It's about something I'm not interested... like mechas.

Other than that, I always read stuff. And usually post a comment too. :D

I don't read most of the Gundam related posts, that might change soon since i've been wanting to get into the plamo thing. as i type this i'm actually browsing online stores to see what I could build for my first model. Thanks for the coverage Danny

I have recently had to curtail my reading, as my workplace introduced a new firewall system, and DannyChoo.com is listed in its blacklist... v_v

So I can only browse after work, and there I mostly limit myself to the general Japan posts (I've lived in Japan myself for five years), unless it's a figure of either a) a character I really like, or b) looks excessively well made. I only ever buy pre-assembled/painted figures, as I'm hopeless and have no time to do it myself.

Other things I come to the site for are the idol/gravure posts, the best ones are the ones with the unusual poses where you ask us to submit quotes... ^_^

I will read most, if not all. The only time I skip reading is if I am away from a computer. I do not mind the constant figure coverage- but additional coverage on Gundam, anime, other stuff is highly desireable. There is no one to point a finger at here because nearly all Danny Choo readers are figure lovers (what Otaku doesn't?), but a well rounded cereal kicks the day off with a great start. Lucky Charms are always good- but some mornings I crave pancakes.

i read most of your articles, most of the news articles that peek my interest, but i think the current coverage is good, some more gundam stuff would be great :D
you have a nice, well rounded aproch to the coverage and it pleases most, so any more optimization might send people away, so keep up what your doing, seems to be working so far :D

Usually I read most of the figurine news coverage since I'm a collector myself, but I suppose it could be broken up by more Japan news coverage, since IMO that's the main appeal of your site.

Hey Danny, I think in terms of cinematography, this movie is a big step up from your previous ones =) (If you remember I criticized the previous reviews as lacking the quality that you have in your photos). The BGM and situation, and everything really fits this time around imo. Probably could be improved with a bit of environment shots and not 100% focusing on you.

Do or do not, there is no try <me like this quote too now thanks to you lol

If you write it... they will come. Yeah, I do read every article since I've joined. It's the least I could do for your continuous efforts. Don't always comment though, if its not something I'm particularly informed about, or don't have a smartassed comment. As for DC news I like checking them out on the top page, and click if I got somethin to say. For mem news, since there is so much content flowing thru I pick and choose. Even though I don't collect alot of figures, I personally don't mind continuous figure news. I like seein the new up and coming stuff.

Must confess that I don't read many articles in the gundam category. I have tried, but I'm of a background that cannot get into heavy duty machines with a life of their own. Sorry.
However, I cannot get enough of ALL the other catagories and read as much as time will allow (occasionally reading them twice!).
