I have no problems what so ever with the amount of figure coverage. I do not consider myself a hard core collector of figures either (I only own one). I generally read most of the articles presented on the site (submitted by Danny), but prefer the ones relating to Japan. I tend to quickly skim through most of the member's submitted sections with little or no reading, unless I see a quality post.
My feelings pretty much echo thedegeneric's. I like the figure coverage, though I don't spend thousands of dollars a year on them, but I prefer the Japan coverage. I skim the member news and read articles that grab my attention, but I read all the Danny posts.
I keep readin till sleep takes over o.o^
I love the contrast in reaction when on the train and being out in the open. haha. As for articles, I'm not really into collecting figures so I usually skip those unless I think the figure itself is aesthetically appealing. I mainly like your articles about everyday Japan and your trooper vids.
You are one lucky man, Danny
O_o The people on the train don't mind you at all! I wonder if I dressed up the same and rode a train here. I probably wouldn't even be allowed to get in XD I read every new article that pops up but I only comment on the ones that I can relate/understand x_x
more japanese men should wear a suit of armor when on train so they won't get harassed by opportunist females accusing them of chikan.
I don't really like anime. I'm normally here to read the idols portal and the Japan portal and the trooper portal and i tend to read the users news as well. Sometimes i do tend to skim threw the figures portal and such but i am mostly here for the portals i mentioned before.
I'll read all of the articles but skip some of the news ^^.
I read around 80% of the articles. however I am personally missing your gundam related posts. ^^ I have to admit though that I would sometimes skip the figures posted at the news items.
lol @ Haruhi and Mikuru in that landspeeder.
will i attract cute girls too when in armour? ('~')
Only if you spray on some deodorant - you will get smelly in there ^^;
lol. i'll put that in my list of things to buy. ^^;
Looking forward to pictures of you in armor.
I read all of the articles, and most of the news. Really love this place lol ^^
hi, i do exactly what melo does. i skip the figurines unless they look extra-cool to the non-collector, and read most of the japan and trooper ones. amazing place you've got here, keep it up... and, while i don't read them, i actually kind of like having them around... thanks for all the work.
I read most of the articles. Usually skip through the Idol posts. Basically, the posts and comments are variations of, "Wow, she's hot".
I'm not into figures but your coverage of them is so thorough and personal that I can't miss it. But your anime posts, I usually only read the first paragraph. What I enjoy most is your "work" and "Japan" posts.
I actually read all articles on Japan and figurine ones when I like the front image. I normally skip the rest. In terms of polling, I'd like to drop a small suggestion... why don't you do a page dedicated to a few questions you really want to answer. Keep it going for a while maybe... and structure questions so that there is no "middle way." Things like, "if you had time only to read 1 article, would it be the latest on japan or on figurines?" That way, you don't get the "middle of the road" answer that all humans tend to normally gravitate towards... A series of those kinds of questions might help you with your redesigning, maybe...
Good suggestion ^^
I dont read all, only the ones relevant to my interest. Get-to-know-japan interest me
1:33~2:06 Danny is so popular with the ladies. Go Danny!
yeah, I skim thru all articles and read only interesting ones. I usually read transportation, some figures & general japan articles but it still varies. I'll try to spot you doing rock trooper next september ;)
Constant figure coverage is no problem by me, but I'd like to see more photoshoots like there have been earlier, dedicated to one figure. And of course I love the more detailed articles about living in Japan. Oh and check the userbility article for my thoughts on the new design; it looks very promising.
I tend to read most of the articles. My favorites are the trooper articles and news(anime or otherwise).Have to say that I ain't a figure collector since I got two as presents but I read and like to see how they are made since that's hard work put into it.Keep up the idols(guilty pleasure).
Crowd --_--
Lol..it must be hot when 3 girls surround you at the same time. esp when one of them is.....=X
I do read most of the articles, especially the anime and figure coverage. The articles featuring pics of japan in general are great too. Love the figure reviews too with dedicated photoshoots. The figma reviews were most amusing, what with the replaceable parts!
I don't mind many figure coverage at one go, though I feel said coz' I know I won't be having any of the figures that are covered... * Cries in one corner* LOL Danny you lucky trooper you... And the man @ 0:30 is LOL
Personally, I read all of the articles and don't have a specific one that I read more often. I also wouldn't mind a lot of figure coverage.
Read figures related stuff and trooper related stuff. That's why I started reading dannychoo.com, and that's why I like about it :) I skip most of the rest, or just look at pictures illustrating the articles (Japan, Idols...). Don't have enough time to spend all of it just on this site ^^;
I love the figure coverage. I love the Japan-culture coverage. I pretty much love anything thats put on this site. Figures, tv, culture, games, whatever!! One thing I do love are the photo walks. They're one of my favourite types of articles along with the figure coverage and event coverage. I read this blog because it keeps me up to date with all the things going on in Japan!! I'm more an Otaku of Japan than anything else lol.
And also, do people know the name Danny Choo in relation to the appearences of a Storm Trooper? I would like to hope they do. And constant figure coverage, would love it.
They don't unless they look me up.
seconded lol, saved me to write it all, thanks. :D
thirded! man im a lazy bum! oh wait i can add something too: I mostly read your posts from one year ago too
^^; I'm just as lazy, probably worse. I read pretty much all the articles, some I don't read due to time constraints or if I'm in a working area >.<
dude you so should have been at comic-con! i bet it's a star wars geek paradise i don't mind figurine coverage, as long as they have big eyes :) ^^
i read about 90% of danny's news and about 70% of user news depending if the thumbnail catches my attention...i pretty much read all the articles from danny
I vote for more figure coverage. If you can do formal figure review with some sort of score system, that'd be great.
I read most articles, I probably skip over ones about female idols the most. I would read articles about figures every day...I <3 them.
I usually read all Danny's articles on this site, and often look at the news items. And I have nothing against figure coverage. Actually thanks to it I am planning to buy some figures.
Last time I visit here because of figure, now is because Dannychoo(I mean everything in here). I do read all the articles.
I read pretty much all the articles.
I always read all the articles; my feed reader help me with this :3 The only thing that kinda bother me is that, when something is eddited on ar article/news item, it appears again on the feeds, and sometimes I have 3 or 4 times the same article there ^^' But regarding the kinds of articles that I read, I mostly just have a quick read at Gundam news, because I'm not that into Gundams (yet o.o)
Let me know if the multiple feed thing happens again - I think I fixed it yesterday morning.
I don't mind the figure coverage since it's a niche always well covered by camera-owners. But I don't want to see your site figure overloaded. True enough, I started collecting because of reading all about what's involved; if the same treatment were given to Gundam I think I may be convinced to build gunpla -_-; I do like historical articles, such as those reflecting on the status quo, and anything good to know about life and life in Japan. I don't skip many articles, but I try to limit commenting to only when I want to be heard. Re: quality control I try to hold my tongue, even in regards to adminning: seeing members failing things such as not linking properly in posts (syntax errors, and to top page instead of blog page, etc.) This also includes members abusing news uploads for serialized or periodic updates; they could probably do better publishing elsewhere unless popularly approved.
I'd say dannychoo.com is pretty well balanced between figures, Tokyo Trooper and all the other stuff. It's probably a good idea to keep covering more than just one single thing, as this way there is always an element of surprise when checking this page. If it would be just about the figures, I'd only visit when I want to look at something figures related, but this way I visit every day just to see what's the newest topic. It's a sort of trap (TRAP!) that lures you in and while you're here, you might just look at the pretty pictures and read the new articles. Altough I'd say the most important feature for me is the Danny's News section on the left. It's an easy way to check out what's sort of new Nendoroids and Figmas are coming. ^^
Unbelievable how opinions can differ! ^^; I love figures (huge Shunya Yamashita Fan) and Idols (or lets say women) but it's the last thing I'm here for. The most important aspect on this site is that there's a guy who successfully migrated to Japan without any real advantages, just through hard work, his dreams in his heart and his ideals and mottos in mind. Things I want to know (and why I'm visiting your blog) are found in the following two categories: Japan and Trooper. These two categories show me everything about your past, present and future life. How you did it, what you are doing right now and what you are going to do. What it means to life in Japan, why you choose it and if you regret it sometimes and why not most of the time. What you see and experience (week in Tokyo, photos of Japan, living in Japan) and how crazy you and everything over there can be (Trooper, and so on). That's what makes your site unique and is the reason why I love it. It's like reading about another world, like living your dream together with you and maybe being motivated. Figures, Gundams and Idols are important of course, because they are two of your hobbys you are most passionate about. BUT not because you are a reviewer/editor! You should always write about them keeping that in mind in my opinion (your office tours, events and so on are great). But what I would hate more than anything else would be you starting to write simple reviews at costs of your reports, thoughts and experiences around your life in Japan. Simple figure and idol sites are ten a penny, but there’s only one Danny who lives in this fascinating country and can write about it in detail... Figures, Gundams, Idols in addition -> APPROVES !!! At costs of the other topics -> NOOOOO Danny … PLEASE NOOOOOO :’( *just about going to die* Sorry for this long comment, but it was really important for me to tell you what I think ^^
Oh and sorry for mistakes I might have done ^^; I'm not a native English speaker and was writing down quite fast everything I had in mind...
most of the times i read all of the articles, i only skip parts when i'm at work or bussy.
I originally came across this site when my wife and I were looking for more information on living in Japan, and Japanese culture, as we want to learn more and one day visit, or even perhaps in the far future move there. The week in Tokyo series of videos and the articles about living in Japan and such were the main things we came here for. Then of course, we came across figma and the good smile company tours and I decided to register after a while of reading the articles. I only skip over some of the gunpla/gundam stuff cuz even though I like mecha sometimes I just never found myself into that sort of thing. I come here on a daily basis to see what's new and I read a large amount of the articles or at the very least browse them over. I like coming here for the variety of surprises that may await me every visit.
I only read the Japan, trooper, gadget and anime related articles. I tend to skip the figure related ones (as I don't collect them) unless they look visually and aesthetically appealing to me. In most cases I would just scroll down the pics and move on another article without reading. I also read the news items from both Danny and other members, usually by judging from the thumbnail. For me constant figure coverage means taking a few days break from checking the site / skimming through older articles that I find more interesting. ^^
I have no problems with your figure coverage Danny, in fact i find them quite interesting. I generally tend to read almost every article you have that pops up on the main page but I tend to focus on things like Japan, anime, and your trooper stuff. Oh of course if you throw any idol based stuff out as well (Pretty girls always tends to get everyones attention)
i read all the articles. even the this time last year stuff. where to get the landspeeder from? available for online order anywhere? lol at the walking crowd making a semicircle while trying to avoid bumping into danny.
Got the landspeeder many moons ago - cant remember where from.
I don't mind figure coverage, though long bouts of it can get tedious at times. I like a little variety. The only articles I spend less time reading are the Gundam, only because I'm not a big Gundam fan, unless your talking about Macross F.
I read most of the articles and news. I even try to go through all member news but it's quite hard. I tend to skip Gundam news as I'm not too much into that, but I understand lots of ppl are, so I have no problem with those either.
I read almost all articles and news and I usually don't bother with Gundam news. As for member news, I read some of them if I have the time. Sometimes, I also read 'this time last year' news
I read most of the articles... Sometimes (rarely) I skip some parts out of wanting to know what's next...
mostly I skip the figure coverage because it's not really my interest, but I read it some time just to be aware and when it's about mecha (very rare this time) for the design. I'm here first and foremost for ur daily life in this funny town of Tokyo (or maybe ur funny life in Tokyo). By the way how can japanese folk ignoring u dress like that in the train? U do that in The parisian subway, will be a superstar in the wagon (if u plan to do it one day in Paris let me know, it will be my pleasure to be ur cameraman with my Xacti 1000)
Oh btw on your vid, I love how people just automatically gather around you to start taking pictures with their camera phones. Great stuff. Oh and in the end the girl on the right side of the video was looking pretty cute. Danny you player you!!
danny's articles are always worth reading. they're really well written and complete, loads of great pics too. keep it up ;)
I feel bad (and curious) if I don't read all of them.
I don't read articles or news on idols. I'm a girl, and therefore I'm not interested. I read most of everything else though
The only categories I usually skip are Gundam and Idols. And I certainly don't mind more figure coverage. ^^
Well, there was certainly a time that you didn't skip on a Gundam article, and it was when you commented on my fan art ^^ http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/3942/Astray+Fan+Art.html
No problems with figure coverage. And I only don't read articles in 2 situations: 1- Don't have the time to, and the article is too long. 2- It's about something I'm not interested... like mechas. Other than that, I always read stuff. And usually post a comment too. :D
I don't read most of the Gundam related posts, that might change soon since i've been wanting to get into the plamo thing. as i type this i'm actually browsing online stores to see what I could build for my first model. Thanks for the coverage Danny
