A Week in London

I've only been back to the UK a couple of times since moving to Japan and each time I went was usually because the company (Nature,Amazon) payed for the business trip. Here are some pics taken during my last visit.

First up is Piccadilly Circus where I used to get all my Japanese learning/heath material - a bookshop called the Japan Center opened was my doorway to discover Japan.
Regent Street - the biggest toy shop in the UK Hamleys is here where I used to visit all the time for the Star Wars goodies.
Hackney London - voted one of the worst places to live in the UK.
Tottenham Court Road where I used to get my electronic equipment from. Where should folks go in your region to pick up good electronics? All I know of is Yong San in Seoul.
London China Town which has a restaurant called Wong Kei where the waiters say things like "you drop your chopsticks and you not get no more" and are incredibly rude. But their food is delicious which is why they are popular. Not sure if they are still there.

Would you go back to a restaurant if the service is crap but food good n cheap?
On a double decker round bus - not sure if there are any left. Many buses are now square.
Outside my dads couture studio.
The food I buy to bring back to Japan. Must stock up on the PG Tips n biscuits!
Oxford Street full O shops. My dads studio is at the other end at Marble Arch.
Hmmm, as I write this I really feel like going back for a visit ^^;

I remember when I first moved to Japan after 27 years of living in the UK since birth. Even though I longed to live in Japan, I would still visualize me being back in the UK walking about town. I do miss it from time to time but have no intentions of going back to live/retire - pretty happy living in Japan.

Do you live in a country other than the place of your birth? Do you prefer it where you are or long to be back at your homeland?
To stop a bus you need to hold out your arm. This reminded me of the good ol days at night where the driver was in a rush to get home - they would just drive by leaving the smoke in yer face and dust in yer teeth. Do bus drivers do this in your region too?
On a square bus.
Me, my dad and a colleague from Amazon. Amazon had many ladies who seemed to like my dads shoes. Whenever possible, I would arrange for them to go meet him.

Yes I used to have long hair but the weight of it meant that it sped up the balding rate for me which is why I cut it short^^;;;
Where I live. My mum got mugged twice in this area.
More of the local neighborhood.
London has many train stations but not enough meaning long waits for buses that took their time to come - and when they did come they always come in threes.
One of my fave past times in London - strolling by the Thames. London is lovely when the sun is out...
I remember as a young teenager coming here on my own wondering where in the world my lifetime love was - so ronery ^^;;
But London usually looks like this - gloomy.
Digging up my old mac.
At my dads studio designing some shoes for my wife.
I still have my shoe making skills and planned to start my own label in Tokyo but decided to concentrate on webstuff.

For those who are wondering why I didn't follow in my dads footsteps - I wanted to go alone in a completely different field without any financial aid to see how far I could go with few hundred pounds of savings.

Reached many of my destinations (goals) in life and am setting new goals every day. The last goal was to set up a company by the age of 35 which I accomplished. Will talk about the other goals soon ^^
Shopping in Tescos.
A view from my room.
Mum does a great B'fast.
Just for the lulz - me as a little blighter.
Me deciding which "eyes"-cream I should go for first.
One of my fave UK dishes - chips, scampi, peas n savaloy. Why do the Japanese complain that UK food sucks?
The day after I arrive is raid Tescos and buy the same stuff. Lord I miss UK food.
Not 3 but 5 buses on a row - after waiting 20 mins for any of these buses.
You saw what my room looked like in The Early Years 1 and this is what it looks like now.
My mum keeps a load of strange object in my room while I'm not there ^^;
My first computer - 4GB drive running on a 56k modem. I remember taking out a loan to buy that but it was the best investment ever which enabled me to learn the ways of the compuer/internets and get me a job at Japan Airlines in London which lead to a job in Japan with Nature etc etc - more of my history of getting to Japan in this article.
Gorgeous sunny day in South London.
And then suddenly I discover this big eye thing at the Thames.
Virgin airlines - nice interior but the seats a bit hard.
I think this is Covent Garden (?) a nice place to go eating and hang out.
Paying the ancestors my respects.
Name that dinosaur. Used to be a dinosaur fanatic and could name them all - but not anymore ^^;
Inside of the Natural History Museum (I think).
First time here?

I was born in America but lived in Mexico for about 8 years and basically grew up there. When I was 9 years old I moved out of Mexico and moved to sweet old America!

I have ancestors from England, Liverpool. The last of my family to live there would be my great grandfather and some small groups of my family still do live there.

I'd LOVE to visit parts of England one day, searching through the whole beautiful cities.

"Would you go back to a restaurant if the service is crap but food good n cheap?" Hmm... Absolutely. Even if I'm treated like crap, the good food will take the anger away from me.

Wow Danny, you used to have long hair, you should keep it like that only in Winter.

Oh and I realized, I didn't answer. I still live in the Country/State I was born. I wish I could move though, but anywhere else just has something I don't like. Some places are too cold, or too hot, or too far from things I like, or the job market is very sparse...or too far from home (like Japan...I'd love to move there but I know I'd get homesick).

At least you can wear them, I have really wide feet and short toes so it's almost impossible for me to find fancy shoes u_u;~ I end up having to buy a size 9 where I'm generally a size 7-8 with sneakers

My mom has that problem with her wide feet too, that sucks! I have narrow feet, which I am glad for. I think I probably just have to learn to wear heels and it would be ok...I also have flat feet which could be an issue though too.

I had the same reaction. It seriously blew my MIND. I had to tell all my friends. Often, when I told my friends about the DannyChoo blog, I would let my mind wander and say "Jimmy Choo" and then my friends would get mad and say "It's DANNY Choo! Get it right! They're no where near related!" And look at that, you're father and son! Gosh, I'm still headblown after reading this article...

Danny you should post some shoe designs of your own if you have the time~! The ladies of the blog would love it!

Now, it all make sence. In your old blog, you shown us that you know how to make shoes. You and Jimmy share the same last name. Why I didn't figure it out earlier? The reason is I'm not a woman. The first time I hear Jimmy Choo is in Sex and the City.

I was born in the Atlantic coast of Mexico (in the Gulf) and then moved to the center of the country where I lived in three different cities trough my life. After getting my PhD I lived for about 4 years in USA. Now very recently I'm back in Mexico (in yet another different city.... Mexico is huge and there are places where you'll think you are in a different country).

I'll be going to HK and Japan this summer and meeting some bloggers there. I wish to go to London. It seems that it's a great place to visit. Nice shoes your family designs I have to say.

I was born in Hong Kong, lived there for most of my childhood. I miss the whole atmosphere of that place and intend to go back once I finish University here in Toronto.
That said, I'd probably leave again if I marry. It may be a wonderful place for a single young male, but it's not a very good place to raise a family.

ROFL! Wong Kei is still there Danny, they were actually shut down for a few weeks 2 years ago for health and safety issues ^^;;;;
When they came back, the food was good as ever and the waiters are still rude XD They are always impatient, never smile... but who cares, food is great.

As for Hackney, it's safe enough now~ New areas in London are the most dangerous now, I bet in a few years time the map will change again.

I really love London, but I haven't lived here all my life though, my parents moved to London when I was 7, despite all my kicking and screaming (and some crying) they took me along =_=.
I reminisce of Madrid though, I wonder how my childhood friends are doing...

Went to London a couple of times since my sister studied in nearby Cambridge. did saw that Japanese store you mentioned at Piccadilly Circus. although I did find most electronic stuff there a bit more expensive and not so up to date, or had I been shopping at the wrong stores. ^^;
by the way I was a Jimmy Choo store somewhere in Tokyo while I was there, was wondering if you were looking over that one while working for yourself. however judging from this post I guess not. ^^;

Forgot to mention that I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada in the 29 years of my life. (my parents and relatives are originally from Mauritius, they moved to Canada in the mid-70s) I also have a couple of relatives who live in the UK and visit Canada from time to time.

Anyway, the topic of whether Danny's Jimmy Choo's son has been debated before?

I'm not sure if Danny's joking about the "official" and "real" age part! Joudan deshou?

I guess we all enjoy seeing a little bit of your London past, Danny. Looking at those double-deckers remains me of my childhood years in HK. Back then, the double-deckers didn't have any A/C. During the summer days of steamy HK, you are like getting a sauna when you ride inside those buses if you know what I mean.

I remember reading confirmation that you really are Jimmy Choo's son on the Imprint Culture Lab profile.
I think what's more unbelievable is the fact that you chose not to continue working with your father, but to try finding your own place in the world. I think that's a very admirable character you have Danny =D

To answer your question, I was born in Santiago Chile, but moved to Sydney just 2 weeks after my 2nd birthday, so I have no memories of the place I spent my first 2 years. Nor have I been able to visit, but I would like to change my circumstances so that I will be able to visit Chile and of course Japan ;3

As for electronics, I think MSY.com.au is probably the best place to buy your gear, otherwise I'm not familiar with shops in the city etc.

Also, I think the reason most people find English food boring is that there's not really any exotic ingredients involved, everything seems like you could grow in your own backyard. I like the dishes you photographed, but I wouldn't want to have them very often ;q

Another closer step to getting-to-know Danny Choo better ^_^

Well, I'm not surprise to know not many readers have not actually gone through ALL the articles in this wonderful blog as I did by spending 9weeks to read it all.

Danny could have live a better & more enriched life by having Dato Professor Jimmy Choo as his father, but it is because Danny don't rely on his father's preassign substance & financial aids, & had chosen to achieve everything all by himself & within his own strength, this what makes Danny Choo highly remarkable & we truly RESPECT & ADMIRE you.

Talking about my former country. Some people trust more their family heritage and don't bother to do something by themselves. They live believing that things that their grandparents or parents did as enough for them to succeed, and just waste time and money.

Oh my....I forgotten to reply to the original question by this post like other readers that has been astounded by the truth reveal in this post ^^;

I was born in (fill-this-blank-up-with-anything-you-think-toward-this-country) Malaysia. Have been staying in few countries but not actually spent long enough to entitle "live" in it, but was in Hong Kong for quit some time.

While I was in Hong Kong, 1 of the famous chinese restaurant that were frequently visited by HK star actors, thier meal courses is savory but the service by waiter/waitress is really damn rude, I particularlt dont like to be treated unrespectful, so I switch to western & french restaurant during my period of stay.

Another thing I notice over there is, their doubledecker bus & narrow 2-lane road + ilegal side parking really mean for adcident-to-be-happen. There is 1 time I saw the double-D bus trying to make a very sharp angle turn but was blocked by a car which parked at the side, the bus lean to 30 degree & I'm surprise that the skillful dbus driver can make it through without causing the bus to falldown...

Hmm I currently live in Canada, which is really far away from Singapore, my original birth place of 25 years. Never thought I would end up here, I guess it just happened that I got married to my husband who had migrated over from HK many years ago.

I dare say there are things I do miss in Singapore and I probably miss my family and friends more than I'd admit. The ease of getting around without a car is one thing and my mom's cooking ;_; (don't miss my dad's smoking or mom nagging tho lol)

Moving here means starting over from zero in a way, despite having my husband and his family (and some friends I made via my doll hobbies over the years) here. It was nice to know I could do something else other than my drawing but over time I am making my way back to drawing again :) Thanks for being an inspiration to us all Danny!

Danny-san, you continually surprise me. Not with news of your father (I knew that awhile back), but that at times you can be so open with your life online. I find myself thinking "did he just reveal that?" alot, but with great admiration. Since I find that most people use the net for escapism, your openess really gets me thinking sometimes. I wonder if its therapeutic for you get the past out in the open as not many would reveal so much even on their own blog. Do you think like this, or does such openess just come natural for you? Most people have things they don't want revealed, which is human nature I suppose as it leaves people feeling vulnerable. Yet you are bending that theory 180 degrees. You are a curious, yet remarkable fellow indeed.

Back to usual FatB post:

If I had a designer dad, I would totally use that to meet cute girls. It's the truth, I can't lie. I'm a bastard, I know.

I was originally born in Hong Kong. Family moved here and have lived in Melbourne since I was 9 years old. I miss the HK atmosphere, the shopping, convenience with food, getting stuff and transport and all the tall skyscrapers. But I don't think I could live there or retire there.

There's a restaurant in San Diego called "Dick's Last Resort" where the waiters are known to act like real dicks (yes, even the female waitresses) because that's their gimmick. I know of it because I went there with friends when I went to the San Diego Comicon for a couple of years. Love the BBQ ribs and the buffalo wings there.

Double decker buses (and trams in HK) are awesome. I used to love the front seat as a kid even though I was paranoid that I'd fall through the window one day. And I also love the single seater near the stairway.

Danny with long hair make him look like was drawn by Kazushi Hagiwara. Very 80s heavy metal look, Danny. lol

When I went to London back in November 2001, I had sunny days for the entirety of my stay (about 18 days) except for like 2 days! It was amazing particularly in November.

I loved dinosaurs when I was growing up, too. I went nuts when I found out there were Transformers that transformed into dinos! Like two of my favourite things all put together into an ultimate toy!!!!!!

Born and raised in Los Angeles with my parents from Taiwan. Always wanted to be in Japan since they started showing the Macross / Robotech series (and Famicom was being released).

Now I'm in Japan but longing for certain foods back in the states and some of the convenience it offers as well.

Good and bad things in every country and you realize and appreciate it after you leave.

I thought that I'd end up losing weight here from the portion sizes but with all the never ending delicious food here in Japan that's impossible! YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT WHILE YOU ARE HERE if you don't watch yourself.

If you're a sweets or snacks person it's heaven here. Especially at the local convenience store!

I miss IN-N-OUT Hamburgers back in the US. Have you guys had those before? Originally only available in Southern California now shops in Nevada, Arizona and now Utah back in the USA. Try it if you get a chance. You'll thank me for it.

Although they have Sasebo burgers here IN-N-OUT breathes pure tasty satisfaction.

Well, I'm gonna take a stab at naming that Dino here, and say that that second one is muttaburrasaurus (or however you spell it). I'm only guessing by the thumbs and that that's the only mildly obscure one I can name 'cause it was discovered a few hundred clicks from where I live.

And where I was born and have never moved from.

Props not not following your father and branching out on your own as well. Winding up in the same industry as a relative can be difficult as well. You forever are being reffered to as "XYZ's son/nephew/relation"...

living takes 100% of my time
I was born in Romania, but now I am going to college in the US. Personally I think it's better than Romania, even though I am city girl and in the US I feel like in a bubble in the middle of nowhere.

However, I really want to live in Japan and I'm doing everything I can to achieve this goal.

I am absolutely never going back to Romania to live and work. A vacation now and then is O.K. I'd rather die of hunger in another country than return to Romania.
It's not that it's a shitty country (it's actually a beautiful one - mostly the people make it shitty) but I have different standards now and I don't feel satisfied living there.

I remember when I was 5 I was fascinated with London. I really wanted to live there. Even when I was little I never pictured my future in Romania...
Is that weird?

Oh and bus drivers in dublin usually always stop if you put your hand out, although if you don't they will just go straight by, which sometimes happens to tourists who think that the driver will stop so long as someone is at the stop.

Danny, Omae ga kakoii sugiru!!

Damn, you're very impressive and incredible Danny, not relying on your father's wealth and status. Now, I fully realize that passion and determination can really get you a long way!

Guess, you have Haruhi's spirit within you huh? Making life always interesting! Now I'm much more inspired
in being the first lawyer within our family, I'll work hard!

BTW, I was born in Manila, Philippines and never got out of this country. But I'm also familiar with London since my Mother used to tell me stories when she was still a nurse there. She stopped her work there when I was about to be born, but my Father continued to work for the Philippine army. Now, I'm thinking would my family be more financially stable when I wasn't born? Would our house be better?

No, I'm not kidding. Our house is already falling apart. If you saw my room earlier, you can see a lot of Gundams but it took me almost ten years to make it that many...and I'm 18 now. I wish I could really do something for my parents someday even for my older sister, they never went against my hobby and they always supported me.

Damn, went emotional there. Tnx for the inspiartion Danny!

It's a pleasure knowing you Danny. It's like knowing Prada, Louis Vuitton's son or something. Jimmy Choo is uber branded label!

Wow. I'm gonna have to tell my friends. Does your dad like give you a lot of money? You seem to be very rich from your posts. Hehe. After all, Nissan 350Z?

Anyhow I was born in Singapore, still in Singapore but dream to work in Japan in the future. I MIGHT migrate there but only thing holding me back are the strict immigration laws in Japan and my folks back home. They'll be sad to not see me.

London looks awesome. Only been there once when I was little, and it was only a couple of days. Wish I could go again- go to Japan center!

I was born in South Africa, but we moved to the UK. We live in the north though- near manchester which is also one of the worse places to live!! UK is alot better than SA in many ways though. It's alot safer for one, get free healthcare (even if it's rubbish), free schooling and lots of benefits. It's much more expensive here, and there's more variety of food however not as many fresh fruit and veg :( Like you, I miss alot of the food back in SA. PLus you can't go over there and bring back some of the stuff because of regulations! o_o

Totally surprised that you are the son of Jimmy Choo but at the same time, you earn my highest RESPECT for branching on your own(not following your father's foot steps) and standing up on your own. People like you really inspire me ^^. You should write a book about your life ^__^.

To answer the question, I was born in Indonesia and grew up there then I moved to Canada in 2000 for university and been living here since.

I was fortunate to find a job here and would like to continue living here for the rest of my life. In addition, I currently am in the process of getting my permanent resident so once I get that, I can continue living here ^__^

London seems a bit too gloomy for me, even though I lived here since I was 1 years old. The weather in london is just really horrible, the weather caster doesnt even help for lots of times. Wong Kei just generally suck, i dont even know why they are still in buisness (if they are anyway). Some people say that england is beautiful and all but in my own opinion, its just terrible in my experiance anyway.

Ah, London, brings back all the good memories. :D

I actually studied way up in Manchester (backside of the country :p ), and whenever I have the chance I would come down to London to spend time with my friend who studies there. I have an uncle who works in London so that saves me from having to live in my friend's crowded place.

Back then Virgin Trains would take 2-3.5 hours to get between Euston Station and Manchester, now I hear it's less than 2 hours. But I guess those Shinkansen that you travel often on beats the crap out of those hands down, eh Danny? ;)

Wong Kei huh? I haven't got much of an impression of the names of the Gerrard Street restaurants, but me and my mate would often go to this one near the corner by the Chinese arch and order some "Ngau Lam Ho" (Beef Brisket Noodle for the uninitiated).

I think London's retired most of the traditional round buses, and only saves some for the more touristy routes. I remember riding on these stuff and travelling downtown on them, since it's so easy and convenient to get on and off wherever and whenever you want without having to wait for the next stop, provided it's not too dangerous to do so anyway.

And yeah, I agree that Virgin Atlantic seats are extremely stiff, even though they were one of the first airlines to bring cool inflight entertainment for economy class passengers.

I don't know much about my granddad's (mum's dad) side of the family tho, but I think they used to live in a wooden "mansion" (which was kinda smallish for a mansion) on a beach there. They moved out a long long time ago tho.

Anyways, I've left Malaysia quite a while back, and I only come back once a year to visit my grands. I'm now in Australia, and loving every bit of it here.

Danny--- I must say that I found this discussion really interesting! It is fascinating to see what people have to say about moving to other countries.

The comments posted by jdepot.com were particularly interesting to me since I was born and raised in the states (in Chicago) and am currently trying to re-locate to Japan. Once I go there, I plan on making it my permanent home. This is also one of the reasons I enjoy reading everything you write about moving there from London.

I think this would make a really excellent thread.... maybe you would consider getting a conversation started? You have probably never been to Chicago, but I know you have been to the US several times...

In Chicago there is a place called Eddabibics (I'm spelling that wrong for sure) where the waiters are paid to be as rude as posible to you and that is basically the whole point of the place. they do more than just act plain rude though and it has a nice dinner theme...though, the food wasn't that great, but it was fun. ^^

Pretty sure I'll be living in Japan someday, heck I ain't going to let those years of studying Japanese go to waste!

My area has a rather interesting statistics about it. It's said that 95% of the people born in the area, live their whole life here and die here. Of the 3% that left, they come back and live the end of their life here and get buried here. So statistically only 2% leave and never return.

Will that mean will I ever return here? Not sure, the people and the bond in the area is incredibly strong, and it's voted as one of the best places in safety and raising a family in the US. I'd probably visit often. I know my mother would force me to visit often as well, if I have children especially so.

ZOMGWTF?! Your dad is THE Jimmy Choo? I guess the surname is clearly suggesting it. An irony about your dad. Although he is Malaysia of origin, yet he is hardly recognisable by many Malaysians. Only those who keep in touch of the couture and fashion scene know the name Jimmy Choo. Girls love shoes, and your dad is like the one they would love to meet to buy his shoes - no surprise there.

Ah! Watching your first computer also reminded of mine. Not mine, technically. It was the family's computer. I think it was 20GB - the largest at that time. I think my family was a late adopter of computers at that time. To be honest, I never heard of Mac at that time. Also running on 56K modem. I think broadband was not in existence in Malaysia at that time either. And here is the best part: RAM was only 64MB. FTW?!

Thanks for pointing out the Japan Center, I'll check it out the next time I'm in London ^w^ Also, UNIQLO moved to Regent Street a little while back from their location near Harrods, so there's a little bit more Japan in the center of London now. Also, since I stay close to Marble Arch on my visits to London, I'll see if I can find the Jimmy Choo shop and grab some pictures!

I was born in Bethlehem but I only lived there for the first two years of my life as my parents decided to move to the U.S. after I kept getting shot at. I really don't remember anything about my life there but given the circumstances of why we moved, I don't regret not living there at all.

I was born in Malaysia, parents moved to Singapore for a better life and I want to move to Japan for my own version of "the better life". I hope to be able to bring my mom over when i settle down, she also has an interest in Japanese culture, influenced by the neighbours living in my estate here in Singapore.
And wow after seeing you with long hair and standing next to your dad, I noticed the "malaysian-chinese-look" is still pretty much 'embedded' in your features! Way to go, our great grandfathers might have been friends of sorts in Malaysia back then X)

I have a lay over in Tokyo but its only for 50 mins lol. I probably don't even need to change planes. I live in Scotland and I love the UK. I think Japan is a great place too but I'm not sure if I could live there full time. I suppose it's a lot easier once you are confident with your language skills. Were you nervous about moving over? Did you move over by yourself or with someone?

Cheers.

I was born in Singapore and have lived here ever since. I guess one good thing about living in such a small country is that you don't have to take more than 1hr to get to your destination? I plan to study in Japan and maybe migrate there in the future, if I am able to land myself a decent job.

In my country, I think the place to get good electronics should be Sim Lim Square.

I'm originally from Chicago. My wife and I decided to cash it in and move to her mother's home state of MI back in 1994. Reason: traffic, congestion, crime. Not necessarily in that order. We live in a small town called Gladstone now, interestingly named after a former UK prime minister. Occasionally I get whistful for Chi-town. So I'll make the 300+ mile drive. Then I remember why we moved to MI in the first place. Big metro areas are amazingly dynamic. On my last visit, we went to some of the old neighborhoods. Nothing is the way we remember it. New buildings sit in former parking lots. All the old mom-n-pop stores on the main streets have gone. Even the old church I attended has been torn down and the lot is occupied by new three story housing. It's really not "my" city anymore. So now I use Google Earth to visit Chicago when I get the urge. It's cheaper on gasoline.

London looks Amazing ^^ , I still remember when I was about 5 years old and am soo interested in Dinosaurs. I even tried to read a book about Dinosaurs with some complicated words.I believe that Dinosaur in image ID#20200 is an Alosaurus .

The reason why most Japanese people hate American and UK foods is because they contain many sugar and calories. As Japanese people were taught by there parents to eat there vegetables and sushi . They became very aware of sugar.

I am deeply overwhelmed of Datuk Jimmy Choo's words when he stated that he is going to open a Couture Show Academy in Malaysia.

This is what he said "Never say no and never give up. In business, it is not always about money and success but one must be sincere, honest, tolerant, willing to work hard and remain humble no matter how successful,”

Whoa... I dreamed to go to England one day... strolling down near Thames... eating Fish n Chips, passing time at the London Park... getting wasted at the pub... and of course, getting a season ticket and watching Football at Stretford End...^^

It's still a dilemma for me, whether I complete my dream of living at UK or living at Japan first...XD I guess I just have to see where life and opportunity brought me... But in any case, I have to experience living at both countries...XD

Btw, I'm an Indonesian, currently studying (thus living) at Singapore... and altho I dreamed of living at Japan and UK, I do still put Indonesia in the frame, and will probably settle back there again at some point....^^

At first, Hong Kong just had so much going on all the time which made UK pretty boring to me. Nowadays, I live in the sunburnt country of Australia, and travel the world as a free-wheeling academic type.

Overall, I would say things are living up. :)

Visiting the home country is fine as an intellectual curiosity, but I don't think I'll be moving out of Australia any time soon.

Unless they implement their stupid Internet Censorship idea and try to cut off my access to Anime, of course. In that case, Romania might start to look more appealing once again.

I mean, the country's looking pretty good nowadays... and do you know what one Australian dollar buys over there? It boggles the mind.

Guess the reason most people didn't realise that Jimmy Choo is Danny's father because Choo is not really an uncommon surname, especially for Chinese Malaysians. We have a few Choos here in our office too.

Also, Danny didn't really say "Jimmy Choo is my father!" so we were all guessing and then we go "Nah...it couldn't be so coincidental, could it?"

I was born in Mexico of American ex-pat parents. I moved with my parents to the US for about 5 years and then we moved back to Mexico. I went back to the US for High School and most of college. I spent a year as an exchange student in Tokyo, and a few years later I worked there too. Now I'm sort of back in Mexico since I'm running my parents' business but I try to spend as much time in Japan as possible...
Hmm... growing up I honestly hated Mexico with a passion and thought America was the best thing since sliced bread. Now? I don't exactly love or hate either one. I definitely would say the time I spent in college in Japan was the absolutely hand down best time of my life, and working there was good too. I will probably go back the, hopefully sooner rather than later. ^.^ This blog is certainly an inspiration in that direction.

I love the Japan Centre! I always make a stop there when I'm visiting London. I haven't been there for a while because it's a pain to get there from Sheffield, though.

I'm currently living in my home country, but in September I'll be going to Japan for a study abroad year, hopefully. I'll probably end up wanting to live there properly in the future.

Wow, I never made the connection either and right now I feel very stupid. I'm sorry if that whole discussion about your father is upsetting, I imagine it must be to a degree but you need to understand that most of us like myself never made the connection. I've actually past by the Connaught Street shop so many times so I was shocked when I saw you posing in front of it.

I admire the fact that both your father and yourself are self-made entrepreneurs.

And to answer the questions put forward, I was born in Greece but moved to the UK when I was 17 to study, finished my Bachelors and my Masters, I got married and now a decade has gone past.

If there's one thing I miss is the bloody sun but I never really entertained the idea of going back to Greece, the culture shock would be too much to handle. If I were to move it would be USA-wise.

Nice article Danny i really enjoyed reading it.

I was a bit confused that so few knew that your dad is Jimmy. Even i knew that and i have only been reading this blog for a month. :O

Here's something about me:
I have born here in Finland, but I have lived in 2 other countries so far. When I was 3 years old my family and I moved to Danmark for few months, then back to Finland. A few years later we moved to Sweden where I lived for 2,5 years. During our time in Sweden i began with school. After that we moved back to Finland where I contiuned with school in a special Swedish grade. I'm currently studying in highschool and I'll graduate next year.
I'm not sure what I'll be doing in the future, but it would be nice to live and work in Japan, or in some other "exotic" country.

Born and raised in the south east of England, just a few miles north of Brighton&Hove. After I finish education, I'm going to B&H for a bit and see if I can move to tokyo in the future. With the entire house of commons in the state its in and the home secretary becoming more and more power hungry, I doubt that anyone I know is even going to be left here after a few years -_-;.

I realy do admire the fact you decided to follow your own dreams, instead of taking the easy options in life. I guess I can say your something of an inspiration to most of us ^_^
If you ever do visit London again soon, I suggest you go back to the Japan Centre. The place has exploded over the past few years, and now includes a resturant, combini, and lots of other goodies.

Also, Danny has the same canvas wardrobe I do. WTF.

I would not go back to a restaurant if the service was crap, even if the food was good and cheap.

Buses here ave specific stops and there are signs designating them. If a person is at the stop they will stop there. No need to hold out your hand ^^

Only time I've lived in another country was when I was deployed to the middle east. Have to say that every day I wanted to go back home. I absolutely hated that region.

UK food is pretty good and so is Italian and Japanese food. I don't particularly hate a specific country/regions food but I do loathe onions and eggs(not blended into things like brownies and pancakes). Two things that are certain to make me very ill and probably running for a sink or toilet ^^;

The buses are still just as bad. Just two days ago two passed just before I got to the bus stop and I had to wait another half an hour for the next one to turn up..

The trains are worse; Frequently five minutes late, often even later, occasionally just canceled.. I look forward to experiencing the Japanese rail service in June.

I've lived in 11 cities for varying amounts of time in the US. Liked some better than others, remember some things better than others (always foggy in Boston, always summer or approaching summer in San Diego). I want to live in Shanghai someday since both my parents were born there and something like forty of sixty or so cousins and their kids live there or nearby. Never did have many relatives in the states, and moving around so much kind of abridged friend making most of the time.

That chopstick thing is because for some reason there this urban myth that a good Chinese resturant has excellant service if you drop your chopsticks on the florr and see how fast the waiters replace them. Think it got a bit out of hand and so the restuarants have tried to stop it by telling you you only get one set.

Like you, i was born in a diferent country and now live in another. Maybe, to me was easier than for other people, because i move to a country with my same mother lenguage: from Venezuela to Spain.

This is my forst year outside from my homeland. I miss a lot of things: family, my dog, friends, some food, even all my manga and figures collection XD.
But here in Spain my life is so different, so nice, so full of opportunities...

WOW!
Looks like eveythin' had changed since ya left!

I was mainly interested in starting my foreign life in UK at first right be4 i proceeded with Japan. Reason? Damn strict driving rules that made the UK the safest place to drive in, right be4 i continued towards Spain, France, Germany, and Italy. But in the end, i shedded off interest in British Living, 'cause i don't wanna expect "Verguenza" to Queen Elizabeth II. Since a sixteenth of her followers criticised her REALLY BADLY!!!

Note: in the late '90s, your original birthplace suffered amazing changes:

1/Jul/97: Hong Kong, after 155 years under British rule, returned successfully to Chinese mandate(Recalling it as the happiest moment for the People's Republic of China, But in Britain, The Queen stated it that "It was a day we have lost one of our mostly important colony throughout the 20th century")

30/Aug/97: Princess Diana of Gales was badly killed in a car crash in Paris, No clue was left for the England Paranormal Investigation Society

Also in '97, the debut of Spice Girls, DOLLY, the first sheep to be cloned by Scottish Scientists. that had made 1997 as the most Controversial year for the United Kingdom

1998: The Good friday treaty, has made North and South Ireland the safest place to live, right after monstrous political and religious reprecussions

By the way, I'm Puerto Rican, i still live in Puerto Rico since birth
