Well, if there's something that's popular then there will ALWAYS be someone against it. It just the way the world runs. =[
/signed !!! :(
Exactly! I think its pointless arguing with these people or moping about why they are idiots. Anything abnormal and popular will always be hated. I prefer not to annoy myself with such videos, I do really hate such people.
I dont hate these people, I just am indifferent to their existence. I guess its true that the opposite of love is not hate, its indifference. I think its sad that they are so closed minded, and honestly, I dont care if they dont like what I watch/read/eat/think/do... Maybe thats why Im happy and they will be miserable?
I definitely hate them - i've had friends tell me plenty of times how stupid anime is. Then I show them one episode of Haruhi Suzumiya and they become addicted... Hate is ignorance.... but I guess saying that would make me an ignorant hypocrite. So be it.
Totally agree, hate is ignorance. Detroit metal city is awesome, and my friends said it was just stupid. I watched it in their presence, and got them hooked. xD
I love Detroit Metal City! Sometimes people distance themselves away from things solely based on name. You can't bash something you never tried.
hmm~ is that the reason that i hate Apple's product so much that i dont know why? Hate me then~ I prefer S0ny :p anyway, I enjoy my life being a healthy style otaku~
Totally agree with you! We just can't get everyone to like anime, different cultures and others are too much of a barrier. But bashing anime fans can't really be justified. Bashing itself is wrong, it discourages constructive discussion and prevents understanding of one another, in my opinion.
Plus, there are more of us than there are of them, we are comfortable with ourselves, and their dislike of anime doesnt affect me whatsoever. I bet they all loved G.I.Joe's and went to watch transformers when it came out though huh? Hypocracy.
Just never feed the troll... Discussion is useless with them, and confronting them only comfort them in their twisted logic.
*comforts Just don't give them any attention and they will fade away and get blown away with the Spring breeze.
Not exactly true. You need to expand that to approximately everything. Every single thing has its haters. The very people who are hating anime likes things that has people who hate that. Everything you like will have someone hating it. That goes for everyone.
Simple physics: Equal and Opposite Force
Ignorance is as cool as a cup of Jell-O.
True. These haters are just a dying breed of characteristic American bigotry. Along with their outmoded mind-set of pro-American cartoons, you can just see the arrogance that their so-called "culture" festers! It's always the Americans who strike first in trivial matters like these.
I've met a few who thinks anime is boring and for kids, but thank god that they aren't immature. Got alot of friends that dislike anime, but still my friends. People that thinks it's stupid, gay or whatever is just plain jealous of the superiority of anime.
I haven't really met an anime-hater before but I have heard people saying things like " Anime and figures sucks bla bla bla..." I've neither met someone who hates anime to the extreme though... I wouldn't want to meet them anyway... But hey, there's gotta be haters right? They make the world go round... NOT
As for the Haruhi picture, looks cool! :) I never wanted figures for real, but since i started to read your site and saw how much fun you can have with them and a camera i start to ponder... ^^; Maybe in two months when my wallet allows me fun-things again (after my 32gb ipod touch, new laptop, new camera and soon japan-day in düsseldorf i am broken for some time bahhh~~) As for the Anime-hater topic... well i have meet people who said it is "stupid child stuff" cause it's drawn and they compare it to Disney and so on. Some of those folks i even could get into anime after a nice discussion without being mean or such, i did show them an example of a good anime (nice animation, good story and music etc. we all know there are enough ^^v) and they did show interest in it and eventually went on with their own path into this world of fun. ;) I didn't meet (lucky me) the hardcore anime-hater yet and i maybe don't want to either, least none of the kind you gave as example. There are a lot of groups out there which are being hated for whatever reason, car clubs... bike clubs... music bands... you will find always people who think it's stupid or whatever. My solution for this kind of hardcore-haters is ignore, if they can't put up a good discussion and just rant pointlessly... no thanks. Also... i might pitty them a bit, i am very sure that most of them don't know what they are missing out on... i mean just the stories of some animes are so good, put aside that it's an anime and from japan and whatsoever... the core - the story - is a thing which is unrelated to the medium it's being told with. Just the stories of some animes did enrich my life by a lot, like 5cm/s or "Hoshi no Koe" just to name two examples which i do like a lot - not only for their quality but mainly for the story which is so touching... simply put it's really good art and i respect the creative people behind it a lot. All together, i personaly have many reasons why i like anime and will most likely go on with it no matter what untill i see the light at the end of the tunnel - also no matter what other people say. :)
100% agreed.Makoto Shinkai rules.
some people just need an enemy.. gotta blame something for your problems other than yourself... i've been watching cartoons all my life.. from ducktales to ghost in the shell and enjoy most of them.. american cartoons are going down hill all by themselves.. without anime's help.. you will always have haters no mater what you do.. so just deal with it and ignore them.. words never hurt anybody.. and it takes you yourself to make them work... :D end stupid rant!
Some samples of American animation are good (my favorite being adaptations of comics -X-Men, JLU...- and those made by Warner Studios -Tiny Toons, Animaniacs- but even insanely random stuff like My Fairly Oddparents, Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls or Atomic Betty... Yeah, really random), but they have to be well-done in terms of aesthetics and all... No, in fact the most annoying type of cartoons I stumble upon are those which focus not on being either useful or a sarcastic view of society, but a collection of "pee pee-poo poo" jokes and mockery and stereotypes overuse. But hey, it's just me. I gave up on TV anyway.
D_Blade, I agree. I get tired of that kind of anime, or too much fanservice (one word?). It gets wearing, and turns otherwise excellent animes into crap (even the ridiculous faces in Rouroni Kenshin sp?, or Trigun) But, some people like this stuff, so thats good that there is something they like to watch! Now we can all enjoy our brand of anime. Also, HI! How are you mon frere?
Hey, long time no see. Well, about fanservice addicts, whatever floats their boat (anime can be good with a sprinkle of fanserv', but it can quickly become tasteless when there is too much of low angling action)... ...Whereas for flamers, they should not focus on this precise genre of anime. Did you notice that haters, when criticizing a particular thing, always tend to focus on the most extreme genres rather than the average ones (for videogames = GTA and for anime = School Days, etc.)?
yes, just the fact that they focus on such extremes shows their general lack of knowledge about the genre. Usually hatred is spawned in ignorance and a lack of knowledge.
Looks like Danny already closed the door... *turns off bad-language mode* Well, human beings are very strong-minded regarding the opinions that they make sometimes. I suppose that we should just tolerate it like the feeling-friendly people we are X-) But I'd recommend animes like Code Geass to them. then they'd see the reason as to why it's being aired during midnight. GITS and Karas would be good choices too... People, let's convince them with open hearts :3 *does onigiri buddha pose*
Code Geass is to air on Adult Swim on the 26th at 1:30am. Let's see on how people will react on that
You know I think those video's are some off the worse argument against anime. Tbh I could argue against anime better myself. But I guess if you like throwing tomatoes at dunces then this is your thing.
My guess is that they're just fishing for views and comments for their videos.
These people are just idiotic misanthropes, attention whores, who want page views. I personally think that it's absolutely childish and bereft of intelligence to attack something someone likes to the point where you actually start making forums around it, posting around it, making videos around it? They're going to call someone pathetic for liking something, but then they're going to comment on how much they don't like what the person likes? That's ludicrous! I like Youtube, but every little pretentious pseudo-intellectual thug with a video camera thinks they're a director or a pundit now. Oh yeah, and that girl that called us "anime obsessed creatures" should take a look in the mirror, pretentious little bitch.
I'm a type of person who wants to understand what others like or hate. If people hate anime and alike, that's is fine and I understand as long as they don't force their belief onto me such as I should hate anime because of what they believe is right. I might have mountains of art books and doujinshis at home, but I try to do other stuffs like go to movies, karaoke and other normal hobbies as well. People should not just judge of who I am just because I like anime and such. But you will run into some extreme haters that will not be reasonable and that can't be helped -_-
same as me.. even though I'm a anime fans, and I know among my friends there's some think that I'm stupid for being so attracted to anime... when hanging out with my friends, I'll just change myself, have what they so-called "NORMAL" life. after that I could just return to myself during at home..
Haven't really encountered such people around me before, I'm more likely to influence others to watch anime though. ^^;; BTW love the wallpaper tool! using the kureha shot as my wallpaper right now. nice shot!
Reminds me... I always wanted to do some research on why some folks dislike anime. Putting it back up on my to-do list.
Ah I've run into this a whole lot. People just seem to be influenced by society to think that anime is immature or that it's only for kids. People also don't seem to have good judgment of what "good" animation is as opposed to bad animation. They seem to think that if it's animated it should have short jokes and sketches and not a deep, interesting plot. It's just one of the world's, and especially america's, typical stereotypes. People seem to hear about it and get brainwashed by their peers and such to think that this stereotype is what's "right". I could go on and on about this but I won't for now, I will just say this; I have run into the "anime hater" type of people very often and they generally seem to be the closed minded type of people, I let them have their opinion and I respect that but I don't have to accept it myself and I never will.
Oh...how sad for them, guess is the "balance" of the universe them. Where is Yin there is Yang!
The ironic thing with most of the anti-anime petitions is that most of the people who sign the online petition are people who like anime and just want to leave angry comments, so these things are never really as popular as they seem. It's also funny that people go out of their way to complain about something that doesn't really effect them, especially when they say people who like anime have no lives, yet they find the time to do things like that.
I haven't met one myself, and if I do, I will try to be calm and ignore what they say.
to all those anime haters. that's their fault not mine, so leave me alone. kthx.
i dont wanna be rant my disagree on those any group of ppl, as it would just be as bad instead lets just all understand and respect the fact that we all humans are different in many ways including our taste, thus lets all learn to respect each other's opinion and preference.. in fact its the uniqueness of our preference and opinion that makes us interesting..just imagine everyone in this world are like preprogrammed bots with same opinion and taste...
I've met some anime and people who watch anime haters. Can't live peoples' lives for them. If that gives them a sense of self-worth, so be it. I've got better things to do than stand around and listen. And it doesn't even have to involve anime...we are capable of liking more than 1 thing.
I've met say..only one or two of these people in my lifetime, and it's pretty pointless arguing with them. It's an irreversible facet of this world that something popular always has its detractors, so, leave them to wallow in their hate, it sustains us. XD
I agree. For everything positive, there will be something negative. I haven't personally come across any anime haters in my local area and/or travels, but they're out there. Although you can see from the URL for the petition the title of "animesucksass", it illustrates the level of maturity people like that. They thrive on the conflicts they create with others, I refuse to give people that satisfaction. I especially liked the comment about western animation series getting cancelled because of anime. What a laugh... Usually, these people hide behind keyboards, but now with youtube, a small vocal minority gets quite visible.
The thing I dont understand is that if someone hates something, why spend time telling others to hate it too? If I hate something, I dont waste time for it, right?
hater = rarely underestimate, yes question, do any american series (heroes, terminator:SCC, etc) don't have opening song and ending song? because i do sometime OP song are useless and pointless, so to ED song exception on lucky star of course, the best ED in every show i watch(3d,2d, anime, every show in the world)
OP and ED themes are a lost art in American series. It used to be different. Just ask anybody over the age of 30 what their favourite theme was and they'll be able to sing it ...but the show they're talking about will be from early 90's at least. The last "memorable theme song" to me is from a sitcom called Cheers and that was in the 80's! I think producers today just think people don't have the patience for theme songs anymore and just want to get to the show.
Hmm, you made me think of something. Do the series "Friends" have an OP? Cuz I remember their theme to be kind of catchy ^^ Ahhh, and also the x-philes... pretty old series I know =P
in finland some folks made a picture of patch that says "good old beating gets the anime out of child" or something... the pic has ^_^ smilie with a black eye. i don't see what satisfaction ppl get when they do this kind of pics etc to flame other ppl...
they just can't appreciate something they can't work on. i guess that's what they are. i hope.
So they're all Mickey Mouse fans?
Roasted Sands video was priceless!! He makes so many ignorant comments, and obviously hasn't watched anything more than Naruto and Akira. He couldn't seem to decide if anime was from japan or china. I'm fine with others not enjoying what gives me pleasure, but i thought anime had spread to a point where it was starting to be viewed as a legitimate artistic medium. Hayao Miyazaki's work has received many awards, including an Academy Award for Spirited Away. So if any of you ever encounter an anime hater, then recommend him/her to watch Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc. If they still think anime is childish, perverted, and lacking talent then they must be insane!!!!!!
LOL RoastedSand... So Anime is from Japan and made by Chinese or what? I just don't get it! *head explodes* Seriously speaking, all those ranters seems to be what... people who has anything better to do. I respect one's desire, interest and all as one man's meat is another man's poison. However, to simply rant like that just makes them look rather dumb. Proper constructive criticism please. Get your facts straight before ranting in the internet. Those people can continue watching Powerpuff girls and Tom and Jerry.
Heh-- the problem is that idiots like them don't know the difference between Japan and China! It sounds crazy to us, of course, but it's true! My fiancee is from Japan, and she regularly gets questions like-- "So are you from Hong Kong?" and "What does that say?" (while pointing to a sign displayed in a Chinatown souvenir shop. Sighhhhhh. If there's anything I hate, it's stupid people. Also-- I found this piece of Danny's post to be particularly funny: "Anime is the reason why every good cartoon from here in america and all the world have gone down in ratings" LOL! If it was truly "good" wouldn't it's ratings go UP?? Maybe it's just me....
RoastedSand seem that he can't think right because he got his missing dick lodged up in his brain.....Ok I need to calm down.....
In that case he really should wear this (do not really click if you're currently eating and have a wild imagination): http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/1073/Dick+Head.html
Lol dickhead....thank you for calming my anger by 1%...
Better than nothing.
rofl... Anyway I guess all Asian look alike!

at least anime is better than those stupid brainless horror movie that gonna cut off ur head or body! they just spoils human's brain and kill the cells.
dont like anime fans being hyper? ignoer them! why the heck would u just go and talk with them and waste ur time?
LEAVE US ALONEEEE. oTL

opps, sry, got a double post. its my fault its my fault, sry sry sry sry *hides behind the cupboard*
I am personally amused at the youtube videos myself. I mean, as much as I can understand some bits of what they are ranting at (I thought Akira was rather boring because of the aged graphics), it smacks of hitting the extreme group of people. It apparently shows a lack of knowledge about anime in general, but that is why they are haters, no? They usually do not know anything. ^^
Oops, forced to make a double post. Danny, have you nominated for the <a href="http://animeblogawards.com">ABA</A> yet? It's two days away from the closing of the nominations. Then it's down to voting. ^^
*Yawn* I don't give a Koopa Paratroopa of what they think. I even laugh about it. Poor souls, caring too much for others that they can't even look at themselves and their adolescent-like attitude. *End of story*
i didn't click on any of the youtube videos. don't wanna waste my time.it's pointless to dismiss other people's hobbies. i hate it when people tell me how i should live my life.
Ditto, but I'd even say all they do is to rant... rant about their little lives and show how much they are bored with it... to the point of complaining about trivial details to get attention instead of ignoring people that are happy with their poison and living life fully... *shrugs*
So true. I also think the most others can do is to offer advise but not command on how to live this life.
Yep, met a few... been one myself for that matter. I used to loath anime with an ungodly passion untill about my last year of highschool when I spent some time sitting next to an Otaku in physics (yes, I was a geek, just didn't like anime). Long story short: he pushed Hellsing on me and well... look where that led. Interestinly I can actually vaugly relate to the first girl as people who seem to belive that anime/manga/Japan start and end with Naruto get on my nerves as well. People wanting to scream their love to the heavens, sure, fine... but not my style. Actually the bit that irked me the most about those three vids was that Brad waxed without washing. That's like gluing the dirt to your car, moron =P
i'm glad it wasn't just me. After watching them i couldn't shake my concern that Brad's car is all messed up now. i need some closure on this issue. Has anyone contacted Brad?
Most of these hate-comments are mostly talking about one genre of anime. People are always so single-sided. I think there's so much more diversity in anime than in american cartoons. American cartoons are almost always directed to children while anime is not. (correct me if I'm wrong...) Anime has got horror stories, serious drama, any sport you can imagine, etc. Okay, there is a lot of violence, but also a lot of comedy. And don't tell me that american movies or South Park don't have violence, kids watch that anyway. (I love South Park btw) So why hate anime cause it has violence?? And big-eyed girls should stay in Japan? Remember Micky Mouse and Betty Boob? That's what inspired the japanese in the first place. And school girls in (mini-)skirts? Well, that happens to be the actual school outfit in Japan ;p That's my rant, and I don't hate american cartoons, I just prefer japanese anime.
Hmmm, normally I really cant be arsed about those persons. However one of my classmates/friends was one and even worse, he lived in the same town as me so we had to take the same train together each day... Now that sucked glad its over ^^.
12 years olds really look old nowadays. O_o I don't mind them disliking my hobby but actually hating something like this is just childish.
Bah, I simply say: To hell with them. I anime and manga don`t like them, is they problem! But, well, we must respect they oppinion, besides is pathetic, jajaja...
Oh well, nothing special here, just like Windows/Mac haters, whenever ask why you hate it they just don't know why.
well, i'm a microsoft hater, due to their so called 'microsoft timer' timed machine called XBOX 360 yep 3 ring of death, it got me, and i don't have official microsoft booth here ToT (buy it from my local store) i hate microsoft, but can't get rid this piece of microsoft T_T (my windows XP)
Anyone who is passionate about something is the same way. I find it stupid to hate on someone just because they're enjoy their hobby. But of course the people who pretend to be Japanese really scare me haha but I don't find it annoying.
I only have 1 reaction to anime haters: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA STFU!
You read in my mind, I would say the same XD
we anime enthusiasts (i.e. otakus) might be considered as a social outcast by the "ordinary" people but we have to accept it 'coz there are some people who simply doesn't understand on what we love and spend money on and what one doesn't understand always resulted to fear and anger. some of us would opt to educate these "ordinary" people about our hobby but imho it would be pointless if these people are not open-minded to the idea. i had my fair share of people who doesn't understand my hobby and get some comments from them (harsh or not) but i don't listen to them and continued on what i love. hey, i don't understand on why car enthusiasts pimp out their cars and spending huge amounts of money on it but you don't see or hear me b*tching about it.
similarly as the general public who doesnt understand the genius? vincent van goth...
that's a nice example ornehx ^^
if they hate, why waste time to put up video/etc? weird human -__-.
booo..just because 70% of the ppl are all right with or already am an anime lover, those haters just got je__l____ (fill in the blank) and wanted to do something opposite. i do that too..lol..naruto and bleach was never on my to watch list... well..the theory of "salmon swimming up the stream" does not apply here though..
Well, there would always be haters for every single thing in the world.. I don't blame them, I do hate some things which some people like.. Anyway, anime FTW!! ^^
Well people are free to dislike anime (or anything else they so desire) and are free to voice their opinion about it, just as those who do like it (such as us) are free to like it and voice our opinion about it. Although I must say it's quite funny to see the well thought through and eloquent opinions of the 'anime haters' used as an example here. Please, if you want to voice an opinion on something, try to study the subject and your language enough to be able to formulate decent phrases. Because rants without coherent thoughts, phrases or structure make you sound idiotic or like someone who's just seeking attention for the sake of attention. I personally do not understand why people like to watch sports (like soccer, football) and band together in stadiums filled to the brim to indulge in copious amounts of alcoholic beverages until their state of drunken stupor or barbaric hormonal urges degenerate into violence or other idiotic behaviour. (No offense meant to anyone here who may like participating in above activity.) But I don't go around ranting about it or how 'it sucks'. To each his own, you know? You do your thing, I do my thing and we leave each other in peace about. That's how I see it anyway.
i wouldn't even be bothered to click on them. i'm used to stuff like that. as an adult who reads comics, collects figures, play games etc. i hv seen my fair share of pple like that. worse r the parents who talk down to their kids when the kids want to buy anime stuff. seen it with my own eyes.
dont you ever have thoughts of you pushing a rail gun or any weapon down people like these haters throat till they totally disentergrate. cause i really want to do something horrible to those anime haters, if they hated or talked any offending stuff about manga or visual novels. . . im gonna start rampaging @-@
Thank god I haven't met people like that, although I'm not sure if that's simply because nobody over here knows what anime is. Anywho, I guess people like that are simply jealous of not having a great hobby like this or scared because they don't understand what they don't know or both. Another 41,000 internet pages wasted. Nuff said.
I think they're partially justified. Isn't anime an escape from reality in most cases?
One could say this about reading novels and watching films, too.
Ah.. You maybe right, but I haven't heard of any 'novel' otakus, have you? :P (No, don't say it, you know I'm excluding light novels here) The gap is just too wide, due to a multitude of factors. They could never come close to generating the same level of widespread fanaticism.
sad but true :(
yup :(
Sigh... Life's too Short to waste time on people like this Remember danny's destination post? I won't to click on those videos for the same reason, it simply wastes my time.
sad to say, that these people are a bit ignorant, isnt anime entertainment? and some other shows that air in TV/movies also called entertainment?('cept for news). so why complain/rant whereas its a form of entertainment. and yes (some)anime , and movie are a bit alike it has a certain feel to it, a life's meaning, and maybe a moral lesson. so them ranting is just a waste of their time. as for western cartoons(batman, etc.) i still like to watch them as much as anime. why is the world likes to pick on Japan (i.e. whaling article from danny)
I hate anime haters XD just kidding I don't like many anime series, but there are some that I like. I even don't like it when people say "I hate animes." There are so many types of anime, you can't hate them all.
Hmm... I am: A Cardflopper A Dicechucker An Armchair General An Anime Fan (not an otaku, at least, I think not) A Manga Fan A Modeller A Comic Reader A Videogamer A Toy Collector And a cartoon watcher. Damn... That's a lot of hate coming my way... Bad vibes no matter where or when.
I'm lucky enough never to have ever come across any Anime/Otaku haters.
There are things out there that I HATE. Such things as American rap music but you don't see me making a petition or signing one to get rid of it. If many people like, well that's fine and dandy but I'm not going to express my hate for it and tell everyone it's bringing down the economy or any bull that comes out of my @#$. It's part of life so you either have to accept it or ignore it instead of being a whiny three year old telling the world it should stop whatever it is I hate. And besides, online petitions don't work on multi-million dollar entertainment. ^^
Danny, I'm so jealous of you having these G Gundam figures. So far I've seen Nobel and Burning Gundam. Maybe you should put (If you have it) Dragon Gundam in the next picture: P I hate how some of the people who bash anime have no basis, just a stereotype of what they think it's about.
I see these guys every day. "Anime haters" make up about 75% of the non-anime-fans in United States high schools (in my experience).
very true there are people who dislike anime. Though I find that most people who dislike anime is mostly due tot he fact they started on a wrong anime as their first introduction to anime. My believe if person wants to start watching anime and is a bit distant from some of the anime story lines then best solution is to ask someone who actually watches anime regularly for the best start off series.
the people who hate anime tend to be people who are quite ignorant of other people's coutures. the anime haters i have encounterd don't actually hate anime but hate the overzealous fangirl/boys who only watch stuff like naruto and eat pocky... i've seen plenty of them, and they do tend to go overboard with the love of japan based solely on what they have seen from anime. what i like about you're blog danny is that it gives more american fans a better understanding of japan and it's culture ,customs and people than most of us would ever get by just watching anime. Another thing people who tend to hate anime see anime as cartoons, while the majority of us who love anime see it as a separate art form.
Funny,it reminds me to one of the episodes of Genshiken.Oh well, anime haters probably be manga lovers?Seven words for them anyway: Get some life and leave us alone.
One of those guys said “Anime come from Japan”, and then followed by “Chinese make Anime” llloooolll
Yeah, I've ran into anime haters before. I already converted them though.
Many people dont like cartoons in general, my girl friend doesnt like them, but i still watch them, I have always been a big kid, like video games, anime & toys and i really dont care if people like it or not. For me it's a kind of life style & i think that if i didnt like kids stuff(like som people say) i wont be haft of good graphic designer i am today. Anime Rules!
Very well said. I feel the same about myself. Many of the creative people in many fields of art, science, technology, etc. are the same.
Danny, you timed this post really well. I swear you have a sixth sense for such things. ^o^ I think may be safe to talk about this now so... Over the last few weeks I had a run in with one of these clowns. Well, this individual hated anything related to Japan. He picked me to be his target of affection. -.-# It was bad enough to need assistance from the authorities. I think everyone understand where I'm going with this comment... Also my attack first ask questions later behavior of late. No one knows I watch anime, unless I tell someone. Just be careful everyone. There are a lot of sick people out there. Anyway, I usually just ignore these kind of people. Didn't ask for or want their opinion. This is a big hobby for most of us and it's one of the things we do to relax. We all have lives. Some of us are busy getting an education. Some of us are working hard to give ourselves and families a life without too much worries. I often find that people use the things others enjoy as an excuse to hate them. We all know it usually comes from a condition of the haters not being happy with themselves. I don't need to go on, we all understand this concept. We don't need these people to validate our lives or hobbies.
I love anime and i see anime forever!
Agreed!! Anime forever~ xD Hmm I never really met anime haters before, but some ppl that dislike watching anime yes, but not to the extent of hate...
To like Anime, you must be open to try new things. If you don’t like anime, then so be it.
BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA Hah I mean when I hate on things, I at least /research/ them.
LOL!!!! EXACTLY! Thank you!
LOL
Anime comes from China BY RoastedSand LOL sure thing he is funny~ hope he confirm things first before he let things out. Anyways, there's only 1 thing they are all missing in general : that anime is meant for ENTERTAINMENT - other thing they all share in common is : lack of reason - their reason is so slacking you just can ignore them the instant you get it. Well , I was expecting some busting rockets ready for a flame war but guess these guys just don't have enough fuel to ignite the bomb. peace~
I really didn't like Akira myself and I haven't seen Naruto because I probably won't rate it very high either. I wonder if that tom&jerry guy saw anything else besides those two (perhaps even in english dub?). But come on, there's a _lot_ good stuff out there. I think we should just ignore those 'anime-haters'. Anime will take over the world eventually.
Yes, this is a normal thing for me now. My best friend dislikes anime, so I don't talk much about it with him. Anime haters have been around for a while, and I don't understand their hatred towards anime... A week ago I got made fun of for watching anime by these two guys, which was weird. LOL @ Videos!
narrow minded idiots...all them haters...its best to just iggy them all...
Well, I punched near to death a guy who start this anime hate talk about my cosplay, and I am kidding =P. I think, think this way is the same as them. I don't hate anyone who hate anime, but hate someone just coz u like /hate anime is something racist.
that must hurt you danny... you sorta live in the anime business...
so reading the comments, and watching the vid, what I found was that most comments are really -towards the American otaku -overly generalized -think that the animation quality of Anime are poor compared to I don't know what in cartoons. I am sorry, are these people really otakus and trying to make a satire, or are they just stupid making rash generalization of stuff
this is sooooooooo sad... i really feel sorry for these people... they wanna bash anime but they don't even know what they are really bashing... take roasted sand for a perfect example... at 1st he says anime is japan then moves on to bash the chinese...*not making sense*, couldn't even pronounce the names right* not making sense again*, and just because he watched 1 eps of naruto*couldn't even pronounce the name right* went on to dismiss the whole series... 1 word, shallow... just sad... if american cartoons are soo good like what most of these people claim, then why isn't it impacting the world like japanese anime... don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good american cartoons out there but take a closer look at most of those cartoons... most of the time you'll be able to find small traces of anime-like characteristics of all sorts in those cartoons and IMO these characteristics are what makes them so successful... brad is just bored out of his mind as he clearly shows in his vid... but i really pity *even though they are really not worth it* those people... they are entitled to their *good* opinion about animes but its really not necessary to share them with the rest of the WWW *world wide web*... personally i've yet to meet 1 anime hater... feel kinda blessed to not meet 1 yet, but if i did would just completely ignore him/her and walk away... no point in wasting my time arguing with them when i can use the time to watch anime from my pda phone...
umm, in terms of Cartoons in Japan, I recall my youth when I saw X-men in Japan, in Japanese Dub. It was weird...
There will always be ignorant people out their that fear and hate what they don't understand. I guess they are entitled to their own opinions but to publicly bash others for their interests is just childish and disrespectful. As for me, i try not to waste time hating what i dont comprehend-instead i take the time to try to understand and appreciate it. Anime FTW!!!
I learned to somehow coexist with anime haters by ignoring them and not talking about it around them. Personally i think they're kinda getting the wrong idea of what anime really is. They probably haven't seen a good anime series that hasn't been chopped up like crazy by cartoon network.
one thing to say for these people i wish them to have a painful and agonizing death
I enjoyed laughing at how some of those videos held no weight in their reasons why anime sucks. Well except for one comment going on about Pockies, Sushi, and wearing costumes going "hey I'm Japanese" thing. Besides that I just put them in the ignore pile since they made no sense what so ever with their shallow opinions :P. Like someone said here its probably for comments and ratings to gather up. Well I can still peacefully enjoy my anime while still trying to find the classic cartoons America used to be known for like Spider-man and Batman from the 1990's. I miss those American cartoons which have been downgraded. Heroes!
hate is a lot of work, :P if they hate anime (or generally something they don't even want to get to know), they dunno what they're missing LOL
Danny, you should respect a person's right to an opinion, but you don't have to respect the opnion itself. Some opinions are just incorrect.
Well, people are entitled to their own opinion. If you like anime that's fine, it's your choice. If you hate anime, that's your choice too. That said though, by hating someone for liking something you don't you are only hurting yourself. Hatred and misunderstanding limit your lifestyle and thus limits your balance, which is unhealthy. I dislike playing team sports because there always seems to be one teammate that screws everything up for you. But I'd be fine playing sports with a few friends because I wouldn't have to take it as seriously as competitive sports. I like to try anything regardless of what it may look like from the eyes of a spectator. I've done many things that wouldn't be considered 'manly' and most people would be ashamed to admit it. I watched the NANA movies and loved them both, despite being blatant chick-flicks. They are just good. Anything can be good, you just have to allow yourself to see that.
its interesting how people dedicate time to put up websites or videos about anime haters....
A palabras necias, oidos sordos... try to get the meaning of those words in english, maybe Kirai (Hector) could assist you guys.
The way I see it, people around my area are too "cool" to watch anime. Thus never experience the Japanese culture of animation. I do believe Americans who choose to be ignorant will always see anime as just cartoons, and not an art form, a media that transcends time, with the ability to express far superior emotions than that of current American cartoons. I can't think of any examples at the momment, but I'm absolutely sure Japanese animation, manga, etc has influenced American pop culture beyond any Anime Hater's expectations. Failing to recognize or appreciate such success through pure stubborness and arrogance is a good portrayal of their personality, and unwillingness to open up to another culture. I don't walk around campus with Naruto headbands on, and I don't draw just anime looking characters, nor do I try to "convert" my friends to watching anime. It's just a simple part of my life, and something I enjoy. Why people must always be against something and always have to say something about it, is just not logical. As a side note, I like how RoastedSand said "cartoons from Japan, these Chinese people make these cartoons" Very accurate statement, made a lot of sense.
It's a trend... you know, we have lots of them. I personally know some anime haters, or to say the least, people who has some kind of prejudice against people who likes anime. There are several stuff involved in these... one day I'll make a list. Here in Brazil, there are those who know Anime only as "those japanese cartoons my kids watch". They label it childish. There are some who thinks "Animes are all like Pokemon". Also label it childish. And then, some who only seem a Saint Seya episode after they become adults (which I understand is kinda hard to like). So they label anime "badly made cartoons, with clunky animation and repetitive shallow stories". Not that Saint Seya is all that, but you gotta admit that watching a random episode might give that impression. Some will just hate because most of his friends also do. Some thinks that only because something is drawn (as in, not with real actors) it has to be for kids. And then, some only had the bad luck of never watching an anime that fits his/her tastes. This is particularly easy to happen in Brazil since we have a very small officially released anime list, and most of them are targeted to a young audience. And then, there's the media. They usually only write or talk about japanese animation with kids going crazy about it, or events where only kids show up.... or to show some crime relation, and some other bad stuff. But really, you know what? I'm kinda ok with all that. One of the things that I like in Anime is that it's not yet mainstream. And one of the things I fear most is that it's becoming mainstream, to the point where Hollywood is making movies based on them, and some anime are having the same problems as american cartoons and series: Sometimes you just can tell they are doing it only for the money. Anyways, I wrote too much already. But it's a looong discussion...
I respect thier opinion on this. Still, everything and every hobby will b e hated on. Never thought that people hated anime that much. I hear some people to it personally. I say this, if you hate, just say you hated and don't say it again...
I think some people that hate anime have not watch the good series or movies such as Spirt Away,The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Tales from Earthsea, Princess Mononoke, and etc. The purpose of anime I think is that they focus on telling us a story just like ciitematic movies. I can not understand why people can not forget about the real world for 30min to 3hrs and indulge them self in a story. We all like stories since we are a liitle kids. I been critize for watch anime cause of my age, but when i let them borrow spirit away, Rin Roh ( Wolf Briage) they have nothing to say. I think american cartoon and anime are quite similar too and i respect both of them. Another great anime move that I just watch was Sword of a Stranger and I recommended watching it.
i have no expirence with any anime haters. but sometimes when i am at the japanese markets i try not to act too dorky when i see certain things <_<. i find that here in new york, anime really appeals across age and economic class. my husband is a high school teacher and he has seen all types of students that love anime/manga (most you would never guess to be fans, like really rough looking kids reading Yostuba&). I can understand that anime is right now edging into the mainstream and more people are taking notice. so there will be people who sees it as some kind of encroachment into their world. but seriously, it's like fighting high tide. the more anime getting exposed in western media, the more people will be drawn into it. there was a time before The Simpsons when they thought all cartoons were meant for saturday mornings and grade school children. i guess i can see in japan where otaku culture may be very pervasive, but everyone is exposed to the same amount of anime. they cant actually be blaming the anime? they all watch it, a lot of tv and movies they have are based on anime/manga. they cant be having the same kind of anime haters?
lol, opinions...
well this is simple to analyze, if you dont like snickers, just stay away from it. If you get offered a snickers (bar), just refuse. Snickers is referring to anime hahahaha Theres no need to show hostility or hate towards the people that do like and watch anime. Same goes for that whole "skiing is for fags" kind of thing, as time passes, everybody will eventually learn to live with it.
Ahem.....Anime is stupid ehhhh.......NO,what's so stupid is people wasting time just to make some hatred comment......I'm sure there are people who hate you for whining......
I guess not everyone can really like the same thing... not very surprising there are haters, but what the that one girl said is somewhat true... people do watch the old stuff.. but hey thats because it takes so long for them to dub it...
We all dislike something, and unfortunatly some people don't know how to behave like normal people or when to be quiet. Since anime is part of the culture of Japan, I would say that people who are discrimnatory towards anime are being racist. I'm not saying people who dislike anime "are racist". Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and really they should keep it to themselves. I don't like Green Army Men or Barbies, and I have reserved opinions on the subjects, but you don't see me going around and blabbing usually obscene things about them. The best thing to do is ignore these kinds of people, because unfortunatly there are many out there "who don't like change", and usually these kinds of folks are in that category. I wouldn't let other people's opinions affect your enjoyment of anime or what the industry has to offer. It's best to laugh at them! because they will never understand, and they don't want to.
haha~in the last video: "whatever you do don't support those communist bastards" and "they just want your money to build giant robots to destroy america" ^.^ these are the most retarded statements i've ever seen in my life! +.+
As a website admin for my cs team, I use L as a sig and as a avatar for myself. I have been hated for liking anime and the person who did actually hate me was a person from my own clan. Some people just simply hate it and think its childish. Here is a link to the argument we had, i don't think you all have time reading it, but you could scroll through it and see all the hate messages that go through the argument towards me. http://xpservers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=994 In the end, he got banned, well I banned him from the community, such lack of respect is quite shameful. The thread is open for comments if you wish to give your opinion on anime.
I have to admit something: The only thing I don't like about anime is the irritating/annoying fan boys/girls. You know, the ones that completely annoy and makes you not want to hang around them. You know what I'm talking about. Anime itself is pure genious in my opinion!
Unfortunately these people mostly reference their dislike from sources like Cartoon Network, which I believe is trying to sabtage Anime's popularity in the US. Since they do have HORRIBLE Voices, it's censored like hell, and generally bad. I think that if I actually started Naruto with the Dub version and have had little or no previous experience with anime I might have the same opinion as these people. I cant stand rants that have no research or backing behind it. it makes me sick how lazy people are when they use youtube for this kind of crap. Now, I believe that if we showed something like Code Geass to some of these 'misinformed' people, their opinions might change.
I'm just amazed by this. They hate something they know nothing about enough to rant about it on youtube? They could atleast do some research into what they're publicly broadcasting their hatred of... I'm yet to meet anyone as anti-anime as these people (luckily), but I know a lot of people who dislike it and get by just fine without waging war against otaku -.-
but then if that guy is an anime hater that probably emans he's a manga hater and a hater of anything japanese animated/ manga those kinda stuff related~ usually ppl who watch magna dun hate anime, they usually say manga owns anime~ so much better lol.
Just ignore them... We all know that interests and hobbies are subjective. People like anime, and some people think that's stupid. How about (an example) football? for some people it'a also a stupid thing to do. 22 people running in a big field just for one small ball. They hate anime because they don't know what anime is :p
That which people don't understand is hated. Honestly, listening to those anime haters is a waste of time. It's even a bigger waste of time trying to reasoning with them. You'll feel like your losing a few I.Q points.
Love will over power hate. (love for Moe that is!!! mwahahahaa)
hahahaha! these videos are great! i've now seen the light. eating cheese is way better than hugging my dakimakura.
"Anime is the reason why every good cartoon from here in america and all the world have gone down in ratings and been forced to be cancelled..." I loved this part. Anime sucks alright, so much so that the majority of people seems to like it over what's done in america and other parts of the world. They got cancelled because anime is evil!!!! I pay no attention to posts like the above, they are just meaningless rants, and nothing more. Give me facts to support your argument, and I MAY consider it. Regardless, it's an opinion against another. I watch anime, I pay for my anime, and I use my money to get Japan stuff, keyword being "my" ^^. just my 2 cents here.
They're just bored and killing time posting anything that gets attention. They'll probably bash anything they don't like, they just wanted to bitch about something so they can feel better about them selves. Poor bastards.
They're just totally jealous we could own them with the ninja skills we gain from watching anime. =( Fear, my friends, is the heart of jealousy.
My friend at work absolutely despises anime. He has nothing against american made cartoons (Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc.), but he just has some bizarre hatred for all things anime. He won't even explain to me why he hates it. He just flat out refuses to watch any kind of anime, in any form. He doesn't even like videogames where the characters "look like anime characters". It's very strange.
hey, there stupid anime is not suck it good. if there wanna pick up fight i will
I quote from Mr RoastedSand, "...these cartoons come from Japan, you know these chinese people make these cartoons up..." i'd like to know since when did the Japanese become Chinese :P
Can't see the point why some people would hate anime. There is a saying and it goes: "As long as it does not cause evil or harm to you and other people, be happy with what you do or believe in." I think those haters should think about it.
As much as I agree, there lies a problem. Some people complain about the contents of stuff directly instead of using their brain & just switching the channel & telling their kid "You can't watch this". Every so often, some idiot (like Jack Thompson, who complains about video games (if ya don't know, look him up. 99% of games HATE him)), looks TOO deep into stuff & then tries to make it look bad or falsly accuse it like Fox News did w/ Mass Effect (again, look up if don't know). Anime Haters are guilty of this because they believe anime is either 2 stereotypical things in their eyes: 1.) OMG YOU WATCH POKEMON & OTHER KIDDY SHOWS! 2.) EWWWW YOU LIKE ANIMATED PORN!! Thankfully, there ARE people who defend stuff like this (like for video games, Brain Age & the Wii). I still agree w/ that saying, I just believe that there's people like me who can prove that wrong.
As much as I agree, there's a problem. Some people like to complain about stuff & it's content. Some idiots go too far & think WAAAAY too deep about it & accuse it of stuff that it isn't or overexaggurate it. Kind of like Jack Thompson complaining about video games. Thankfully, there's people & stuff that defend things like this (like for video games, Brain Age & the Wii). Man, it's only times like these when I really think long & hard.
I never came across any hater so far for being anime fans until now. Only the parents are much more worried their children watching it as nowadays many anime have sex voices and scene causes the parent unhappy. no rating rules in my country, that's why.
Here's what I think: 1.) Why the hell do those guys care that people like anime? Let us live our own life & we'll let you live yours. It's that simple. 2.) They complain it's a waste of time. Yeah, sure not wasting time complaining about something you can't do anything about. 3.) Gee, sorry for being different & liking something YOU DON'T. Please, tell me how I can be EXACTLY LIKE YOU. Don't let me be unique. 4.) Have they got an actual reason as to WHY that actually makes sense? 5.) Have they ever bothered to sit down & actually watch an anime series that ISN'T a stereotype (say, (I apologize in advance if I offend anyone) Pokemon, Dragonball, an "OMG ANIME IS JUST ANIMATED PR0N!!" title, etc.) that always gets mentioned instead of great stuff? 6.) Anime = Japanese for "cartoon". So what, I can't watch Simpsons or Spongebob, cuz technically, in Japan, they're anime, so therefore the guys complaining hate every cartoon ever made?!?! 7.) I've got a idea. STOP COMPLAINING & YOU GET A HOBBY! WE ACTUALLY HAVE ONE THAT MILLIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE LIKE! WE DON'T CARE YOU HATE SOMETHING WE LIKE! WE DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT STUFF YOU LIKE, NOW DO WE?!?! (yeah, I know, we're complaining about them complaining....They started it) 8.) Now, tell us. If anime was made in America instead of Japan, would you like it? 9.) Another thought. What if cartoons made in America were actually made in Japan & Japan cartoons were really made in America? Would you complain that American cartoons suck? 10.) (experience from school) So being a dude who likes woman, despite some being from anime, is considered GAY?! So what, that makes 2 men who like eachother straight?! Sorry, I just get mad when people hate stuff for no reason whatsoever. Anime is just one of those things that people hate for no reason. I think I've only really met 1 person that I actually had to have class with that didn't approve anime/manga. Most people I know just consider it "wierd" (mostly cuz I show them wierd footage)
Lol @ Dannychoo I know Brad and Roasted Sand very well, since i did in fact make response videos to both of them. I am the creator of the 'Anime Sucks: My Reply' videos (Volume 1-3, Volume 4 coming soon). I usually make these responses when i don't have anything else to do. For the most part, i ignore all of these 'Anime haters' and i've reviewed a lot of these videos also and i see no real reason why they hate anime other than the fact that they think it's gay. I give somewhat credit to those who hate the animation style, yet they fail to see how American Animation has been stealing animation ideas from anime & Japan.
I don't care about those people, as long as they mind their own business. But just don't said that hate to me because i'm not good at debate. And because of that, 90% it might end up by killing each other (^_^).
i dun like ppl comment on wat others like! U may not like it but u have no rights to stop ppl for liking it! Its a free world for everyone, but it aint free enough for others to step on others liking!
I haven't seen any other people who really hate anime. But this is a somewhat scary thought...
Once again another reason why I don't like youtube is that people make really pointless videos. Hmmm. I don't like football or music that most people listen to but you don't see me making a video about how much I hate it. I rather watch an anime than waste my time making that. ^^ Really didn't want to find out people really make those videos but I did suspect them to be out there. I met a few anime haters but really they just said it isn't their cup of tea.
I hate ignorance, but I love cake.
i think it's ok that they don't like it but... did they really have to write such thinks about anime! >< if there was something i didn't like as much as they don't like anime i wouldn't say such thinks... people who do such things is just idiots...
To contrary to Love is not Hate but carelessness, not being bother... If anime makes those people feel so strong feeling, it must hit a spot ! I also respect other people hobbies but I don't "HATE" fashion, death metal music or stamp collection, I just don't care. IMHO, anime is great cause it creates a whole world of fantasy, epic stories and discovery. Just like books, plays or movies... It is a form of art, with so many variant, and I actually don't understand people who are so narrow minded, and worst of all aggresive.
yeah i came across these kind of peeps out there. One butted in when he heard me talking to my friends about anime. I stared at him while he was talking hate, when he noticed i was staring he said "what?" So I made a sad face to him and said "Bawwwwwwwww"
What ticks me off the most is that fag wearing the hoodie. A ignorant jerk who can't tell the difference between chinese and japanese. That guy is like trapped in a bubble with a ****ing dense skull.
Just ignore them. In fact, don't even bother listening to their rant. Its pointless anyway. This kinda arguement/debate can go on forever. =/ We live our lives they do theirs. Unless they come and try to force a new way of thinking onto us.
Wow, those Anime Haters are the dumbest people I've ever seen, haha :D . I don't know why 35% of the people being surveyed, are afraid to be with us. What's wrong with us, O_o ?? But anyways, this would be a boring world if everyone liked the same thing. It would be a good idea, but there are people like these to keep the world intresting, =) .
Youtube opinion videos are like drinking Internet diarrhea. WHY WATCH THEM???? everyone hates something, to make your world all sunshiny and bubblegum filled you just have to learn to ignore such matters. hate just like anger makes people feel strong and gives them focus.
you my friend are absolutely correct. But i watch it plainly for the lulz.
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Its ok for them to hate anime, I mean their hating anime doesn't affect us anime watchers so why bother about this..?
Quite a question, and I answer yes. I run into a seldom few on a off & on again basis whenever I'm out. Just the expressions alone say enough.
"Anime is the reason why every good cartoon from here in america and all the world have gone down in ratings and been forced to be cancelled" The tiresome plot lines of American cartoons pretty much killed it. Oh wait, what plots? However, long length animated movies are pretty good.
Yeah american cartoons are pretty brainless and awful. Blaming other things for the inadequacy and lack of talent involved in american productions just makes me laugh. All one has to do to look at the lack of any real talent in the american animation industry, or parts of, is look at dubbed anime, ew.
True... For example, what kind of plot is there to Tom and Jerry or Porky Pig? A cat chasing a mouse with large amounts of graphic violence. That's such a great story.
i don't really care what other people think or say about those who love anime, figures and stuff or those so called flamethrowers. i pity them for being closed-minded and judgemental. in any case, i don't go around advertising my love for these things either. i keep it to myself and just enjoy it alone or with a few select people just to avoid any discussions and misunderstandings. to each his own.
while i dont agree with the last three videos, I have to partially agree with the first one. A lot of people I have seen at school and on the street have acted like that. I watch anime, build gunpla, import phones and electronics, go to conventions and japanese arcades, etc., but i blend in and dont go out of my way to get attention. remember the saying: the nail that sticks its head out is the one that gets hammered.
Just stay away from all the negatives, people have their freedom to comment whatever they think it is, but we also have our rights to enjoy whatever hobby we like.
Can I just say again that there are people who hate anime and who would also think those videos as exceedingly stupid. Hate to be the devil's advocate here but I think this is a bit like an anime hater taking a picture of some greasy otaku drooling over some loli-hentai and then using that to prove to everyone how anime is stupid.
Uhm, yes I was aware of anime hate, specially online. And yes, its amazing someone can hate you because you like something they don't, as if everybody had the obligation to adjust themselves to fit they narrow vision of the world.
hahahhaha!! man all i can say about people who hate anime are people who are either jealous of the popularity or are strictly bias to another style or possibly neutral.trust me,its normal cos that just plain typical of humans. eg: underdogs vs superdogs in a baseball game who do you support? 50% will say underdogs! the 50% superdogs.get the logic? all i can say its a matter of preferance people a matter of prefarance.so its normal if you encouter those who like anime as well as those who hate anime for everyone has their whims and fancys.
Well put. Really well put.
the anime "haters" are the same like other haters, usually the things they hate do not interfere with their daily lifes, they just seem to hate things for no apparent reason. I did say one of the reason is because they are unable to understand and comprehend the things they hate and its kind of human nature to fear and hate the things you don't understand/can't comprehend. (notice how the examples in the videos seem to have hardly any knowledge about anime?) as for the bashers, all I could say is that they seem to lack critical reasoning skills, they don't seem to bother to do research nor go further in-depth (one episode and they know the whole series sucks?)(all animes are like naruto?) the information they have are flawed (chinese=from japan? japan=communist?) in my personal opinion, that roastedsand guy seems to think that bashing anime makes him look cool. btw, some anime fans can be really annoying at times..
I haven't met anime haters. We all have are dislikes and likes.
Well...Those videos don't really make me upset but rather instill in me a sense of pity for those who cannot construct an argument. I don't care that they are "Anime Haters"...in fact good for them. However, if they are going to bash on Anime they better bring their facts to the table and not just their shallow minded opinions. Opinions that they repeat over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again in the same video. Yes I do like to hear many different sentences you morons so stop stuttering. GIVE ME REASON!! I'd like to insert a sentence of swear words here to display my annoyance at their repetition. But, I shall refrain. (Ok, so maybe I am a little angry in addition to pitying...) If they want to say Anime sucks they better understand what it is, WHERE it comes from, and its history first. This way maybe then they can avoid the unavoidable stereotypical "American" ignorance of calling the Japanese, Chinese. *BIG SIGH* They are two entirely different countries full of two different peoples...WITH TWO VERY DIFFERENT PASTS! No, despite what you may think...the Brazilians speak PORTUGUESE not SPANISH!! Wait you probably didn't know that Brazil existed...sorry...I forgot that you didn't have any maps handy. And who the hell is to say that an Anime enthusiast doesn't buy KISS dvds, listen to Wu-Tang, and wash his/her Corvette?! I love Corvettes (Stingrays are my favorite..) and I do listen to classic rock (Rush is pretty awesome). Piss Ants, stop ruining America for me! If I could hook you up to a machine all day that automatically fed you fish sticks, wiped your rear end, and let you watch a never ending marathon of Tom and Jerry...THEN!? MAYBE THEN YOU WOULD YOU STOP BEING UNPATRIOTIC FOOLS! America doesn't need and doesn't want idiots like you speaking LET ALONE GIVING YOUR OPINION ON A GIVEN SUBJECT, ESPECIALLY IN HER NAME! Oh, and one more thing I hope those people are sure to throw out all of their home appliances (you know all that stuff they got from Walmart because it was just sooo cheap) that were made in China because it definitely supports communism. YEAH...SUREEEEEEE... Idiots. -This has been brought to you by an AMERICAN not a MORON who claims to be an American-
But that's the problem, that's all they have are shallow-minded arguments. They ARE SHALLOW lol =). That's why "cartoons are for kids and you should be ashamed of yourself" passes for a valid argument. You live here, you should know how little water most peoples' pools have in them, rofl. I don't mean to be pretentious at all when I say this, but I think anime -- real anime -- is too high-minded a concept for most people. Just because something has boobs and guns doesn't mean it doesn't have a good plot/story. People think that hentai is anime, people think that pokemon is anime. And while they ARE, it just shows how shallow the western majority's tastes are, even when it comes to what a lot of them hate. Again, ignorant cloistered, I don't need to say anything more than those 2 words.
correct me if I'm wrong, but are you dissing pokemon?
And about the last part, it's all convenient truth (read: hypocrisy and ignorance). They have no qualms about accepting things when they help them and are cheap in this case with the appliances, but whenever something offends their sensibilities they have no problem with going so far as being racist to keep the problem out of their lives. That's the basis for most people's weak moral fiber =P.
Yeah, um, and "brad" looks like a pedophile, and I don't even have to watch "sandstorm" or whatever his name is' video to tell that he has no real valid opinions, I can see by the thumbnail that he has his douchebag haircut and douchebag hat on, which means that whatever is under the hat must not be any bigger than that of a fig or maybe a walnut.
Sigh, I had a big post written but for some reason I kept getting a "vegan.net" page about http headers being more than 4kbyte or something? And I don't feel like rewriting it, nor can I remember most of it. It was basically the same as a lot of others' here, anytime there is something popular you'll have people that hate it etc. These people are obviously misanthropes, ignorant and racist or pretentious assbags. They seem cloistered and hostile towards anything that threatens their narrow world view. And yeah, I bet you most of them are "amurican" (surprise, surprise). Anywhere there's a forum for the public, like Youtube, I've noticed that people get the "telephone toughguy" (like where a normal, timid person screams at someone on the phone because they have no danger of getting hit) syndrome, where you're anonymous or untouchable, so you say whatever you want because you're a malcontent or a misanthrope. As I've said before, I like to believe that people aren't mostly bad, but I know better. Your average person is ignorant, of sub-normal intelligence and will rant and rave in all of the space/time they're alloted about anything that threatens their small existence. It's just kinda sad that they have to take it out on the rest of us that try and broaden our horizons. These people all seem really cloistered and unintelligent anyway, and I hate to say it (no I don't), but most of them seem to be american. What kills me is that it's a HOBBY, subjective, totally. You're going to chastise somebody because they like something that they, um, like, and you don't? Again, pathetic. The joke's on them though, let them be unhappy and pissed off and try and control people, they'll make fine bigot republican'ts someday, and we'll all be happy enjoying what we like in life and maybe even generating a little racial harmony in the process ^^;
I agree with what you've said. Seems we have a lot of synonymous qualms with these loons. What gets me is that these guys are generating hate under the name of America. And yet they have no cultural or historical perspective to be doing so. I'm saddened that this image of "America" is attractive to Americans. They think that being American means you are prejudice towards things manifested in foreign lands. Wrong, that was never American. For god sake this is a country founded by Immigrants. Those guys are probably Irish, German, or Welsh. If they want to be patriotic read in to the bloody and tumultuously short history of your own country. We've got a crazy past I wonder if that has jaded us so much that the only thing we can latch on to is a fake image of Americanism. Whatever that means anyway. On another note, you think these guys ever watched Speed Racer?
The fact that they'd sit there and record themselves whining about crap we don't care about sickens me. These people should keep things to their selves instead of letting the world know.
Danny - are you serious that people actually take the time to read your blog that don't like the subject matter, and then take further time to e-mail you and hate on you and your hobbies? I mean I believe it, but that's just beyond the pale of patheticness to take that much time out of your life to "study" something you don't like. I think that's called a sociopath? I mean I could be wrong.... -_-; You know, in the 10 or so comments I've made about this post (hey what can I say, I'm passionate about what I like), I can't help but think about Hector's Kirainet blog last week about the 2 most positively influential countries being Germany and Japan and then the us is near the bottom.
I won't spend my time on commenting "short-sighted" people T_T
Oh what ignorant people. Ignorance makes people to think they are the only ones right. And.....what?! American cartoons?! they are low in rating because americans have not beaing able to make such a great animation as japanese, and plots....way better. Damn you dannychoo!!!! XDXDXDXD those haruhi figures T_T......could u recommend some online stores aswell?
i had someone insult some music i made (i'm merely a novice at writing music..) because they thought it sounded like 'anime music'. i never thought of my music as sounding like anything worthy of being on an anime but i was encouraged none the less ^_^
some people just enjoy being horribly annoying people, i have no idea why they go to such effort to do it sometimes? Anyway I have a question for all you true anime fans, I need help settling an argument over an anime girl t-shirt, can anyone tell me a name or series, i'd be evert so grateful? http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/3200/tshirtob1.jpg
Like most of the people here have already said, can't really blame this people for hating something we like. Everybody hates something for a reason. I myself hate a couple of things but rather than waste my time on hating that thing I'd rather spend it on something I like and be productive about it. ^^ With that said, I think I'll enjoy me some anime. Time for me to get out of work! ^^
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you should bag on others for liking it. Those sorts of people should get lives of their own. Or at least shut frak up. Anime is awesome any way you look at it!
Haha. The third guy doesn't like anime because it's fast and crazy. That's absolutely hilarious, because he talks slow and repeats himself. And the first chick is totally joking, or at the very least purposefully exaggerating. The people she's talking about do exist and they really are annoying. >.>;;
Slightly unfair. I buy figured and watch anime nonstop. But I don't eat poky sticks non stop, or sushi non stop. Ok I bought a bento box the other day but they are common right? I was just interested. But yeah, what she said about most 'otaku's watching this naruto bullshit was completely right. Was on the bus home the other day. And a friend of mine who'd recently got into anime started talking to me about FMA. Now (without being big-headed, it's just relevant) that show I'd seen gawd-knows how long ago. I didn't say anything to him or correct him, but the thing that got me was the way when he quoted me the 'Something can be gained when something of equal value is lost' thing. 2 Other people on the bus jumped up and started shouting 'FULL METAL ALCHEMIST HOLY SHIT'. Fine, fair enough. But then they started this whole contest to see who knew the most about it. *Hangs head in shame*
I don't know what to think about those kind of people I mean they got there own opinion like I have my own but hating someone because they watch/look/or do something different than what they do.Thats just wrong man.
A lot of my fellow soon-to-be-LTs make fun of me for my indulgences, the least of which is spending lots on firearms and ammunition. One claimed that he felt he may experience an epileptic fit at any moment to which I responded "How the hell are you going to shoot, let alone lead soldiers, if you're foaming at the mouth and on the ground? You sure you belong here?" Thereafter, I've been left largely to my own devices, vices and 'unusual,' if you can call watching anime strange, entertainment selections. You cannot affect everyone's effects, but I can definitely make my peers shut-up.
There are many things I don't like. I don't go around proclaiming that everyone interested in those thing are stupid though. To each their own.
In college there were a number of Computer Science students who were really anti-anime. I was in a group with one once who went on this rant about how he couldn't stand all the anime loving CS students. I just shook my head and went back to work, wondering how he would feel knowing that one of those anime loving CS students was doing half the work on the project.
You'd be surprised WHO watches anime. I myself slowed down a bit on watching it (gets expensive when you want to buy the box sets and all). I watch the live dramas now and days, but I'd be damned if I lied about running out and buying the Devil May Cry anime, haha. Here's a story. So I'm at my dentist getting some fillings (spelling?). Took about 3 hours 'cause I told them to do 'em all. Anyways, after 3 hours, and we're done I notice the dentist trying to get a better look at my t-shirt. Its black and just shows Golgo 13's eyes and says Loner in Kanji. He's like "your into that". I'm reply sure, not as much, but yea I watch a few here and there. He starts going off about how he is too. He digs Naruto, and a few others. That blew my mind, really. So that shows you. Its a freaking hobby. A person with a freaking PHD in dentistry not shy about telling me he is into anime. I rest my case, lol. Let me go start a "I hate muscle heads", "I hate baseball card", "I hate American comic books" collectors hate website...sheeesh.
Just to add to my view (got excited with the story)... Yes, I do find the overweight, cat beanie wearing sweaty kids annoying, hehe. Just been honest. I enjoy my hobby for sure, but in a more sophisticated manner then going out and quoting every buddha loving line from naruto. People at work flipped when they found out I owned only Japanese game consoles, collected figures, etc etc Because, and I qoute, "You don't look like "one of them"". Ok so I wear Old Navy, AE, Aeropostal clothing...ok, heh. So I think that adds to the hatred from other people. Some of this "American otakus" help stereotype the hobby, ya know. Just had to add that...
umm... ok! @#$%^& all right i need to let it out!! (darn it it really pisses me off) ummm ok well that 1st guy on the video IT'S KIND OF SLOW.... AND HE THINKS WAY TOO MUCH JUST TO SAY A FEW WORDS I MEAN DID HE GET ALZHEIMER OR SOMETHING?, and that 2nd guy Brad I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHETHER HE'S RETARDED OR HE JUST LOOKS LIKE ONE (i mean he's like babbling instead of talking) anyway i don't really know why there's always people that talks(beep) of what they don't LIKE... i mean is Anime doing any HARM to 'em??? NOOOOOO!!! and i'm sorry to say this but between Japanese and Chinese THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. ohh 1 more thing!! Anime is like WAY BETTER THAN THE REGULAR CARTOONS i mean on my opinnion Tom & Jerry was boring!! NO ACTION!!! when i was 5 years i used to watch Ultraman (OMG SOO COOL!!) P.S.: Danny if u read this and you think this is too agressive u can erase it i won't get mad at u i just had to let it out
Just had to throw this in for laughs guys. After reading lin-da-kenobi post. "There is a difference between Japanese and Chinese". My relatives...not too fond of them...ask me when I had came back from Japan..."So, where there like a whole bunch of Chinese people in Japan?"...."Yes, there was a huge medieval war and they somehow took over...you retards"...So yea that too annoys the crap out of me. But I feel the pain. I'm Latino, half Mexican half Puerto Rican....but apparently I'm either Colombian, Venezuelan, oh and when I don't feel like shaving, Pakistani...people are idiots. They are anti-cultural. I'm gonna go back and watch my "chinese cartoons"...
I FEEL YA NEOEDO!!
It is true that in most cases the typical stereotype of an anime otaku is a fat, sweaty, smelly, weird, socially inept, and overly obsessed person. While some otakus are indeed like that, it is wrong to generalize that all fans of anime are the same way. Some people are just casual fans and even if some fans are more passionate than usual, It doesn't necessarily mean they are fat, sweaty, smelly, socially, inept, etc... Come to think of it i even have a fellow friend who watches and can relate to anime. The catch about him is that he is a commercial model and actor here in the Philippines.
Around Manhattan, there's a reverse-cool crowd, typically weary of youth, who like to pooh-pooh anything currently popular with those younger. For sure, they claim to hate anime (though I doubt they could respond with titles for the three they hated the most!). And, there's plenty also who think anime are cartoons...
hate hate hate. :( these days just about anything related to popular culture or non-conformist trends is subject to bashing by western society and the mainstream media. You'll find it not just against anime fandom, but in every cultural/social niche such as hip-hop/rap music, punk, goth, emo (lol?) and many others. In a way, you can't really blame them. Most the people who hate, just don't like what they see in "x" hobby or trend, whether it's the people that they attract or the content itself. For anime, haters usually hate mainly because they think it's stupid, dumb, perverse, childish etc But those are derived from their own social and political values. So when they see that panty shot or weird Japanese only cultural reference, they take a disliking to it, since it is goes against their core values. You could stay haters are shallow and close minded, but then again, everyone is like that when they encounter something that inherently goes against everything you believe in. Best instance is probably in religion...not that i'm hating or anything :P
whoever said the first green quote is very close-minded. not all anime is targeted to one specific group of people. i'm not sure about just girls and old men liking anime, because as i already stated, there are different animes and mangas which are targeted to different audiances, i think he might have mistaken the word "Anime" for the word "Yaoi", in referance to the fact that only girls read/watch this. granted people will have thier own opinions, which they are entitled to. but hey, who cares wat they think?
I agree 100% on the first vid, the second vid was a joke obviously, and the rest are just opinions.
I think we should all just remember the infinite wisdom of Madarame Harunobu: "In other words, anybody who says 'You can't whack off to anime' obviously has a brain defect. Either that, or they're just trying to sound cool."
Anime, as an art form, is going to attract opinions from all sides. What is sad is that some express their opinons in a more hostile way than most. I've not met any Anime haters, but have to say that, even in my own household, there is a lack of understanding when it comes to my attraction to it. My daughter considers my figures as 'porngraphic' (even though I have no figures which are anything less than fully covered!), my wife considers my Anime pictures / figures photos screen saver as 'inappropriate'. Even my twenty-year-old son cannot watch my Anime DVDs, but is quite happy to watch films full of murder, gore and death for the sake of it - usually computer-generated, therefore an animation! Oh well, each to his/her own...
To f****** HELL with anime haters! bastards!
I find it sort of amusing and sad that people would get their panties in a bunch over anime and generalize it in such a way that makes it strictly perverted. I mean, sure, there's a crapload of titles like that, but anime spawns too many genres to be generalized down to that point. It also tends to tick me off (to put it nicely) when people find it necessary to harass others just because they like anime or anything else that isn't western, especially if it contradicts a stereotype that they put you in in the first place. For instance, I'm half black and people give me a hard time for watching anime and listening to Asian music because of it. They like calling me "blackinese." (And in my opinion, the only person who is allowed to use that word is Chris Tucker.) I mean, if you dislike anime, then by all means go on disliking it. Just don't poke fun at the people who do like anime just because it's different from what you like or what you're used to.
Fortunately for me I don't know that many people who hate anime. I can understand being indifferent about something, but hating anything means that you have some weird emotional feeling for it.
People hate things that are different or that they cannot understand. It's actually quite silly. True, there are many hobbies that anime fans could adopt but, I don't think we choose this hobby either ^^; It's not a sport. That said, I have not really come across 'anime haters', just a few people who reminded me that they believe anime is for kids but.. that's about it.
This is going to sound really mean and im very sorry....but i dont like japanophiles...if you dont know what that is look it up on wikipedia...i think anime should have stayed in japan and shouldnt have been dubbed...
I like these guys who just go off on rants with now real facts or fully formed opinions. Take the first guy, he thinks that Chinese people live in Japan. Also most of them seem to hate it as the story lines are too complex for their small uneducated brains to follow. I doubt that they ever thought something not making sense could be a plot or plot driver. And it seems the last guy is paranoid that the world is out to get America and has again mistaken Japan for China. Maybe these guys should go pass Geography, then English, then form a DECENT argument and them I will give a crap about their opinions. I bet these are the people who just watch porn all day anyway.
Ok now that I have finished my geography, I'm going to Finish my argument. What I noticed with these people who 'hate' anime is that they actually can't accept that a cartoon is actually popular. Now what i think these people actually hate are the as dubbed by youtube 'narutards' Who in my opinion are one of two groups of anime watchers. Narutards are the younger watchers who are still a bit naive and insecure and looking for a place where they can relate to an anime hero. usually ends up in them becoming obsessed. Then there is the other group which start watching anime for maybe a year and then decide that they are interested in Japan and the language and therefore start learning and continue to watch anime as it provides good practice and is still entertaining. I admit I hate people who are like 18+ who still think pokemon is a good show. I can sympathize with what the people in the vidos are saying when it is a similar situation. My other argument would be this. Now before I start i have to say I have nothing against americans but this is aimed from what I often get from Americans while on xbox live. I am British by the way. The Majority of people from the US, seem to be scared when something that isn't from the USA comes around that they can't understand and anime is one of those things. Its almost like they cant accept something that isn't from a similar culture. Not that Britain is any better, and this simply comes down to culture, in western culture cartoons are for children and after that you move on to crappy soaps and dramas. where as in Eastern culture it is completely up to the watcher and so you get anime that spans all age groups. But due to American influence in the western world there is no exceptions form the cartoons are for kids sterotypes.
Right Asch! Your post were listed as good, better , and the best! Ahahahha. Straight to the point, all americans were afraid when other countries will dominate the world business... WTH? Japan will create a giant robot to kill us all? Nonsense... theres no giant robot or similar to that can be existed in this Era if they say that... heh.. i think that who are hate anime lover/otaku irritating them because they cant do the same as they (the otakus) do.. hah, they will imagine if they were on their shoes (otakus). "**blushing** i cant do this! its too humiliate! i have a pride!" LOL! these are the people who feel the CULTURE SHOCK... when people start to forget all the LAME one to NEW one.. before.. all culture from US were copied throughout the world... now japan tried to to be a contender in this modern business... so lets all take it positively and PLEASE!! PLEASE!! dont you all ever hurt other feelings... we never knows... if the brother or the sister of the ANIME HATER are liking anime (not otaku yet).... or his/her mother? (just like mine)... WHO KNOWS RIGHT? See Ya
Lol, I live in the US and I agree 100%.
Then... Long live Spongebob Squarepants? I prefer Death Bob :P
I can see this is a hot topic, and I think I may be a bit behind in my first post here, but I notice none of these haters had any solid arguments at all... I dunno, read some of the YouTube comments and you'll see there's plenty of mindless banter coming from the ProAnime side of the argument as well. I think that instead of hating something that comes from a different culture, that you don't understand... do some research, learn more extensively about your topic, realize that there IS corny, cheesy, CRAPPY, anime out there, just as there is for western animation. These people waste their hate on things that would be better spent on hating evil and injustices in the world. I didn't realize it was so tough to get along... even when it comes to animation. I still feel that ultimately, we win this one, because after reading the first few comments here, the majority of readers here just feel indifference towards their hate, and that to me feels like victory. :P
Yeah....so I have to say that I more or less agree with the girl in the first video. The only real difference between us is that I do like anime, and it seems that she doesn't. It really hurts me, nearly physically, when somebody acts like they know Japanese. This probably stems from the fact that I actually know the language (to a certain degree). However, I unfortunately have to admit that I am most likely guilty of the same crimes, maybe not to the same level as these people (due to the fact that I have never once cosplayed). I can merely hope that these people will grow up like me, and either start learning Japanese in a formal environment, or will learn that they should stop using horribly crippled Japanese, and stop acting like they actually know any. That said...if you don't like something, and other people like it, just leave them alone...it is most likely not hurting you. And if you are going to complain about it...do yourself the favor of actually getting your facts right on the subject. When you get your facts wrong, the only thing that you can do to your movement is hurt it. Then again, people who post comments like jessetenshi can only hurt the case of anime fans. For those who don't want to look it up, the most important line of it would have to be: "i really want to cut out your vocal cords and peel your face off." Yeah. Thanks. I really want people like you representing my case to people who already think of us as insane idiots. You frankly make me want to stop being an anime fan.
The girl in the first video claims that she is joking, so im not entirely sure if she actually hates anime, or that she doesnt actually talk like that. The "RoastedSand" guy, turns out, is actually a fan of anime, this video was apparently him messing around or something, his other youtube channel is "Bawitback". (i found this out if you look at his reply to comments in his "YouTube Sucks" video). Not too sure about the last guy, he seems pretty whack.
"RoastedSand: This was a Parody skit, in which I was mocking the Anime/Jrock culture that is popular and is the current 'trend'. Mocking, meaning I was not serious when I created this series. I had a hard time keeping a straight face since I am a fan of anime and foreign music myself. This was the take out footage in which shows my unbearability to perform/act. Visit my personal Youtube Channel: Bawitback"
If there is one thing I have noticed about anime haters, its that they tend to also be racist and/or homophobic. They are just sad and angry people that should be ignored.
Searched a lot of this on YouTube and I was just getting pissed off about it. People actually take the time to record themselves and post it on YouTube. Get a life.
"i hate what they like, they hate what i like it`s just how the world goes around"-Hans in my highschool days i have encounterd soooooo many people like that specially the senior students who thinks that anime are just for people who cant get a real girlfriend and are too dumb to watch sports shows and primetime shows. it`s really useless to talk to people like that, it`s like talking to a brick wall or something.
I don't have a problem with what others think or say or do. But I just don't understand people and there need to hate on others just by what they say or do. I was just reading an article about a young lady who was kicked to death in England because the local kids didn't like how her and her boyfriend dressed. It's a strange, beautiful, dangerous world we live in.
I found the sauce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGD-mFTY6mw&fmt=18
These guys don't respect other peoples liking. Respect is always needed every time, since each individuals have different taste, opinions and perspective among things. I'd rather have reviews why not to watch a certain genre of anime than people hating it for some reason.
i hate cartoons, they are for kids, grown men shouldn't be watching them, except for fags. lol, i am an idiot. it's easy to forget that alot of ppl just get carried away. they fail to see that they are being completely unproductive, and ultimately their opinions don't, and rightly shouldn't matter lol. it also might not be considered smart to take them seriously, at all
The "RoastedSand" series was a parody series poking fun at elements of otaku culture. I know this because I helped write one of the episodes. The "Anime Sucks" video is not real, it's just satire. If you go to RoastedSand's page, you can see a video called "YouTube Sucks" which is a behind-the-scenes outakes video which clearly demonstrates how hard he found it to pretend to hate things he loved. The guy the RoastedSand series is my close friend, and he loves anime. Just to let you know.
Woops, grammar error. I meant to say "the guy behind the RoastedSand series is my close friend". Crap.
There are Anime Haters here too. But it's not so overdone. Mainly they just say "Anime is just cartoon" or "that`s all bunkum". Or when you don't have luck then they just make fun of you or sometimes do stupid things. But we just need to ignore them, later they knock it off. Or, sometimes we can explain to them what's anime really like, then they maybe even watch anime. Depends on luck and on the person. Fortunately I never met a hardcore otaku hater before.
I'll never understand people who put so much time and effort into hating people for not sharing their views. Everyone's different. That's just life. They need to get over it.
Big Breasts, miniskirts, Robots>My gym partner is a F**king monkey
Agree with u 1000%
ignorance is bliss. just allow them to drown in their own inferiority complex. i don't see the point on about what others think because that's their choice. allow them to rant because anime is DEFINITELY here to stay.
ELE~! Everybody Love Everybody! Can't we all get along??? I have to admit though, sometimes the fanatics scare even me sometimes. I pale in comparison to some of the rabid fans out there. I don't think its a bad thing to balance social norm out of respect and fervent fandom out of love. It's do able.
Some of the comments were really odd... Pushing American Cartoon Ratings down? - Justifies the popularity of Anime and thus, American Cartoons should improve. Bug Eyed Girls? - Erm, the Powerpuff Girls are BEGs. It even said so in the movie and it is American. They shouldn't say things that are so obviously flawed.
Girls around me said that i'm childish because i like animes I wonder how they will react if they watch higurashi ^_^' Definitely not suitable for children.
Certainly I can imagine the scandal if my western students knew I loved anime to death. In the west anime loving is more of a under the table business lest you draw unwanted attention, especially for those with social responsibility and position ><. Sad but true.
I have only met two people at my school who appreciate a good anime when they see one and one of them just graduated. Nobody else there would ever consider watching it because they are too caught up In sports and American tv shows which I honestly can't stand. I know that most people there would think of me differently if they knew how much I love anime and they would consider me to be some kind of weirdo, it gets lonely there.
I never hated anyone for liking anything or a concentration of activity partners. This is a surprising topic. Since there's no point targeting Anime enthusiasts.
Never met an animé hater... The closest would be when some guy driving past the AniméNext convention yelled "Halloween is in October!" at all the cosplayers (I was in cosplay as Nabeshin). Most of my friends like animé, and only one kind of talks down about it, if it's mentioned. But he watches soap operas (General Hospital?!), and we immediately remind him of that. Then, he usually shuts up about it. E^D
Its funny how everyone I've ever run into that has clearly disliked anime has generally been both unintelligent, biased in opinion of other hobbies and generally uncreative and uninteresting. I have friends who like a handful of anime, some particular series, styles, etc and I have friends who absolutely love and obsess over the stuff. I find it hard to understand how someone can outright hate anime, when its the most diverse form of animation there is with the largest range of different subject matter. But then there are people who hate all kinds of things for no reason whatsoever. Why? because they don't understand them and thus they fear them. Have these people ever taken the time to try to understand something they don't understand? no they haven't. They form an opinion without experiencing what whatever they're hating has to over and run with it. The same logic i see in message board/forums when the topic of say 'which games console is the best' pops up. People jump on and say 'I hate this one because of A, B, C' I ask them 'how much have they played the machine? and they respond with something along the lines of 'I wouldn't play that s***'. Its really quite sad and to some degree this logic or way of thinking is probably the root of alot of death and pain and misery in the world. Racism or religious belief throughout history has lead to countless needless and pointless conflicts often resulting in the innocent being killed. If people just stepped back, looked in the mirror and took the time to think 'hey wait, I MIGHT be wrong, and this persons opinion or position could be just as valid as mine'. But no as we are humans its always 'kill first, justify the killing later'. Granted that's an extreme of this discussion there's no denying the thought pattern and thinking process behind it isn't related. This is why whenever someone says 'hey I hate this' I tell them 'wait.. stop, don't hate it, dislike it, but don't hate'. But before i tell them they can dislike it all they want I say 'why not take a couple minutes to find out all you can about what you dislike, in fact maybe try to experience what it has to offer for yourself' If they still don't like it that's fine because at least they've tried and at the very least they have stopped hating and started respecting that thing and the people who do like it a little more despite having little or no interest in it themself. My father for example, he has no real interest in anime but he doesn't outright dislike the stuff, every now and then he'll take a certain interest in a movie or series. I am so glad I was brought up in a family that taught me how to respect others and there interests despite my opinions of them.
A lot of the anime haters are suspiciously knowledgeable about anime too, so it's more self-hatred than anything else in my experience.
I have definitely run across anime-haters, especially at my 2 jobs. Alot of times I feel like I am defending myself as an animeholic. I even went so far as totally annoying everybody in my morning workplace, because I have a cd that I made of ALL anime and Japanese music, I brought it in, told the manager I HAD to turn on some music to wake up, and I cranked it up almost as high as it could go volume-wise, and needless to say, after the second time through the entire cd everybody (except for the exception of one really cool dishwasher person:P), wanted me to turn it off!:P The next day, and from that point on everytime that dishwasher person has worked he has asked me if I had the cd with me.:P I love listening to anime music first thing early in the morning because it generally puts me in a very cheerful mood, and makes up the rest of how my day will usually go.:P
I really hate people with these kind of attitude. We anime fans never did anything to them, but as repayment, they bash us and insult our love of animes. Even if they dislike animes, they should have just keep it to themselves. Everyone has his/her own preferences or favourite things, and these people should learn to respect others' choices. I used to have a few classmates who deliberately insulted and bad-talked animes while having conversations behind me (and they deliberately choose the seats at the table behind me too), just to get me "fired up". If only I have a Flamethrower with me at that time, i'll be sure to show them how i get "fired up".
Remember this fellow anime fans - THEY ALWAYS STRIKE FIRST. We didn't ask for their opinions. We didn't force them to enjoy our love for anime. And we were more open-minded enough to accept this beautiful art-form from a rich & wonderful culture different from ours. Most of these people are too "American-centric" that they cannot stand anything that revolves around their so called American culture. America being America is simply bigoted! They live in their world. We live in ours. And it is wrong for them to invade our space with their ruddy opinions!
Hehe I loled when RoastedSand said "I watched one episode of Naruto so every episode is bad." One of my friends is a complete anime hater and I just ignore his comments about how I can't like anime. People are allowed to like what they like and I don't believe any one person can tell you that you're not allowed to like something.
That idiot RoastedSand is an in-bred-white-trailer-trash ignoramus. He actually thought anime came from CHina?!?!?
What usually scares people are the otaku to the super geeks that make it there whole lives. Plus, before anime was wide scale in the US I am sure that there were those that were anti Mavel (American Comics)
Woah never meet an anime hater yet coz almost all of my friends love anime, but yeah different people has their own opinion or dislike. Not all people are the same.
I've never met an anime hater... I hope I never do...
I still can't believe there are people who hate it that much... I dont get whats to hate...:sigh: Well, tis their ignorance, not ours. It never even crossed my mind to google stuff like 'anime haters', and all the sites I've been on, like Gaia, Neopets etc, have all seemed to like it. (In Gaia's case it would be strange for them not too...)
the whole "each one to thair own" dosent apply to most of these ppl who get something out of pissing others off which i still dont understand, "anime haters" they cant just let it go off like warter on a ducks back they jump for the same thing over and over... "Bleach, Naruto and henti" there the most common that i hear of. someone further up the list put that they are afraid to try new things this might be the case but the internet/people will always have a hate things for no reson. as these ppl on youtube they intitaled to thair oppinon i no but if the ones who havent seen it who seem to be the ones who jump first jsut my pov
RoastedSand has obviously no idea what he's talking about. "Narootoe" has no storyline. Sure, because "Tom and Jerry" has such an apparent storyline. Many people are either ignorant because they watch a small portion of anime and decide that it's all junk, or hold some kind of deep resentment for no reason because of anime's popularity. Personally, I think that if you hate something, you don't have to rant about it on youtube, telling the whole world how bad it is, without even knowing anything about it.
Oh, and how does "Anime Fans" have anything to do with some girls on bikes attacking the police in the poll mentioned above? There's no context for the poll choice in the story.
To any currently active die-hard naruto fans out there, I am sorry. But people who continually use naruto as an 'anime' standard just doesn't seem to know what anime really is. As with everyone out there who treats big titles as the standard. Funny enough, these american 'anime standards' are never even mentioned or even well liked (as in, "omgthisisthebestshowever") Maybe there are some out there, so i won't take wild stabs in the dark. Also another thing, the north american cartoon/anime industry seems as if they want people to hate anime, with their advertisements (namely the toys), merchandise (might I add, this doesn't include figures/the works), dubbing (while not all are horrible, alot of them are quite bad). If being exposed to something you've never experienced or seen before in such a half-ass fashion, who would actually like it? I am not saying any show is bad, I am just saying that people should not base their judgments on something that's exposed to them in such a flawed and incomplete form.
Might I add too, I watched a lot american cartoons back in my day, and they all suck. But hey, that's just my opinion right?
I meet with [generally confuse] people who ask me WHY?!?! the liking of the anime... but that's it, no haters!!!
Why the hate? Why not leave alone what you dislike and focus on being happy? These people... they sure have sad lives, if they get their kicks off hating and posting... I think they like cartoons/anime but are guilty because of societies views of cartoons, and start bashing to feel good about themselves "no I'm not like them look how much I hate it". I hate a lot of stuff. This world is full of horrible things. But there are better ways to use your time, why sour yourself over things that aren't of your liking and could easily avoid? I just don't get it. I feel awful after getting angry, even when the fault comes from the other end; these guys need a psychiatrist.
I agree 100%....cept for the anger part...I have some-what of a temper. but I usually can keep it to myself unless someone like them comes along and pushes me over the edge. I think its terrible to hate though over such a stupid thing like someones passion. If its not hurting anyone, then what the hell, whats so bad about it!!!????
Hate anime lovers? Why do they scare people? This website is full of scary people - people like me :P!
this reminds me of the new anime "Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu", i too dont really judge people by the way they hate on others because if you havent talked to someone who has a hobby how would you know their such a great person, thats like saying, i hate people who drive, when you dont even know the joy of driving
I don't think I've ever encountered anime haters. Most of my classmates back in high school either did not like anime, simply didn't care, or even if they're not fans, watched a series or two. I might have been made fun of behind my back but I never noticed. They mostly left me alone except when they want me to draw for some class project XD They would tease me but no bashing ^_^
LOL..... Brad.......that guy.......i am still laughing........Cartoon.....from Japan.......made by Chinese people. lol Naruto......Akira..........from China.......... LMFAO

Woops not brad the guy above him
Lol Brad you need to watch some anime so you understand what it really is. I bet most of the anime haters out there don't even know what anime really is.They could also have been introduced to it it was in a bad way(Such as showing a hentai episode bad idea). I always show my friends spirited away or another Miyazaki film to start off. I then show them Noein: to your other self. Or Chrono Crusade and move on to Neon Genesis Evangelion if they so desire.
I completely respect others opinions......... unless they disagree with me right in my face and start talking trash constantly about it. For that, they deservean ass-kicking.

Meh....I just leave them alone. I love what I watch, read and do during my pass time. Let them be in their own world
It's impossible to please everyone, everybody, around the world, just impossible, so I don't care AT ALL ! I watch, read, and play (games) because I love it, so what ? :P
I like Anime even though Japan tried to invade my country once in WWII. Tezuka really would change the mind of how people percieve Anime, since he was a pacifist who valued the sacredness of life. Over here in Australia I haven't met one Anime hater, the only Anime haters I have met are on American server forums. Australia also percieves what an Anime fan can be differently to Americans, a number of friends I knew from school never brought up their hobbies and equally enjoyed live action Hollywood movies. The hate towards Anime as inferior to American cartoons is like the hate Bollywood gets compared to Hollywood all over again, both Anime and Bollywood are valid artforms even though the plots are sometimes silly, there are some groundbreaking examples from both, like Miyazaki Anime films and Devdas from Bollywood.
