March 2008 Stats

   (101)

日本語/Japanese
Wed 2008/04/16 21:10
Dont want to bore you so will only announce the stats every 2 months but am extremely delighted to say that March 2008 has been the best month in the eight years of dannychoo.com.
March served just under 14 million page views (13,773,344) to an average of 84,450 unique daily users (up from 62,996 in Jan). The monthly unique users amounted to an accumulative total of 2.6 million visitors (2,617,958) up from 1,952,901 in January.
The new figures mean that this site has gained more users and page views than fellow sites like Akibablog, Famitsu.com, Ascii.jp as shown via the Alexa statistics.
The personal goal is to get into the worlds top 1000 websites by Q2 2009 (currently Alexa ranked 6560) which means we need to expand the server hardware and this is going to be possible thanks to Joi Ito. Last years goal was to get into the worlds top 10,000 sites by December 2007 ^o^
Below will be the new home of dannychoo.com.
A ton of machines which will support the projected growth rate of this site.
A factor that has contributed greatly to the growth has been due to sharing. Feeds of members who participate in Featured Feeds get their feed appearing randomly across the site and at the otaku news aggregator Otaku.fm. In return, they place my rss feed on their site - they share their users with me, I share my users with them - it all makes sense and we grow together.
If you are interested in participating, register my feed on your site. Go to your dannychoo.com account settings and register your feed - then contact [support at dannychoo dot com] with your user name.

Increasing the discoverability of articles and news items through Mirai Gaia has been a priority which has lead to a higher conversion of folks who arrive on the site for the first time - welcome to all of those who have joined the community recently.

Another thing that we have been working on is improving the speed of the site and thanks to Hector's webdev wisdom, we have introduced serialization of database queries which improves the site stability a great deal. Do let me know if you are experiencing turtle server like you did a week or so ago.

And as always, instead of shamelessly asking users to click on my affiliate links (which is bascially asking users for money), I ask that you consider installing the Alexa Toolbar instead. The toolbar will not only enable me to gain a more accurate representation of user traffic, but also enable you to check the popularity of any site you visit and help your own Alexa ranking if you own a website too. Alexa is run by Amazon.com (who I used to work for) so you need not worry about viruses ^^;

I would like to thank you all again for making the site what it is and will commit to continue to bring what you come back for and what I feel passionate about most - otaku subculture, Japan shenanigans and life in Tokyo.
Apart from my Featured Feed partners, I would like to thank the following for driving a concentrated flow of traffic to dannychoo.com. And before I leave you with a few words from my partners below, I was curious as to whether you prefer Mirai-chan with brown or black hair. if you like the black then I will dye her hair and have her appear on the site here n there. Thanks once again and see you after the commercial break.

Awesome Danny, let's hope you can reach your goal soon. Your site has really grown, you should be pretty proud of yourself. ^^,

And, I would say that Mirai is better looking with the brown haircolor.

Continue rocking as planned.

The black hair just sticks out a bit too much for my liking -- doesn't look like her natural color. We're more used to seeing the brown, no doubt.

Speaking of Mirai, will another .psd be available for the new pose anytime soon?

Oo btw, that's some nice servers you got there ^^

As for Mirai, the usual brown for me :) Probably because it already grown on me.

If you switched to black, then you have to change her uniforms, eyes colour to match her hair :o

Orange/Brown is Dannychoo.com's trademark colour anyway ^^

The golden brown works very well with her hair style, black not so much. I think that has to do with the combination of her skin tone and eye color, they just don't play well with black. Maybe a darker brown if you wanted to play, Danny.

Given her skin hue and eye color, brown is better, since the style in which she is drawn, mimics our realistic world.

Black therefore looks out of place because it looks artificial. Black could work if the lighting were colder.

A compromise could be a dark brown, but it seems to me that for natural colors, the impression upon the viewer is weak when using the same hue for optic eyes and hair.

wow! amazing!

as for the hair color, i like the brown, but if you were to change it, maybe a darker shade of brown, but not black, kinda loses the warmth that we all know and love.

As for the hair color for Mirai, i like the current brown. But if ur looking for alternatives you could try a dark pink or dark blue (navy-blue) color for her hair.

2.6 million viewers! Wooo!

Both brown and black hair look equally good on Mirai. But, I suck at color selection, so take my words with a pinch of salt.

Not only has brown grown on me. I find it suits her really well.

I'm definitively interested in seen her with pink, blue and light blue, but you must change her eye color accordingly.

In the end brown is probably the best option.

Whatever final color you choose mirai plase make Kako-chan's hair a lighter shade of the same color. I like siblings with similar hair color in my anime.

It's interesting to read about your increasing traffic, Danny. Thank you for that.
I have no commercial webpages. I am not trying to sell anything with which I'll get a kickback. But a fortnight ago, one of my bookmark pages [not ^that one^ - *this* one is also safe for work, but links to NSFW W-WW sites] got a pair of link-backs.
Hits on that page went from 39, to 2,944, & 3,987. (Note that the increase on ^that^ page did not go throught the stratosphere.) These two websites now account for 89¼% of my referrers. [You can click on the ExtremeTracking globe to glimpse yourself.]
And one of those websites [hosted in Japan] is decidedly dodgy. Before any of you actually click through to visit it, please, please, please configure an anonymous proxy in your web browser. I guess it is this decade's equivalent of the _BOBY_ photographs for Photo Group Frontier back in the late 1990s.
