Well you have probably seen this a zillion times - people doing the DIY thang to get their mac mini in their car. But the DIY thang can be time consuming - and even dangerous - you could bump your head on the steering wheel or swallow a few screws - or even strangle yourself with all the cables involved (ouch).
Well do not fear because the DDIY (Don't Do It Yourself) version is here - meet Minidock by
System Designs.
The Minidock comes with a bay where you can slot in the Mac Mini and an eject button so that you don't have to leave it behind ready to be stolen. The 8 inch monitor is a touch panel but is not removable (well it is if you pull it hard enough). Minidock comes with...
- DVI Cable (1 meter)
- HD15PIN gender changer
- USB extension cable
- IEEE1394 extension 6PIN 6PIN
- USB hub (4 sockets)
- Rice cooker
So will all this cost an arm and a leg? - indeed it will at 175,000 yen (about 17500 USD) - that does *not* include the Mac Mini! But this is good for rich folks who just want to pay that little bit extra for the ready to go solution - sounds good to me!
Above: The Minidock "all-in-one" pack. I am not sure why they call it "all-in-one" when it does not include the Mac Mini.
Below: Minidock in action. Speaking on the mobile whilst driving is illegal but checking the out the latest open source DIVX files on a Mac Mini at 90 Mph is not.
