Japanese Office Tour : GSC

Looks like the start of a new season of videos - Japanese Office Tours. First up is episode 01 - the Good Smile offices.
You saw a few photos from my last visit but the video footage contains more including a peek at my fave room (the store room), the 3D cutting machine and tools, pre-flight check which includes a peek at Shuraki Rize, Needa, Moetan and Chu Chu Astram - all which are yet to be released. Nendoroid Hatsune Miku also makes an appearance.

I've got more to show including a look at the sculpting room and a 1x1 with the boss of Good Smile Aki-san but YouTube is not letting me upload more than 100MB (boo) so will upload season one episode two tomorrow.

Episode three will be the Max Factory video tour and episode four will probably an eroge or animation company.

Many thanks to Mikatan (who writes for the official Good Smile blog) for taking time out for the video shoot.
Beknowist that you can pre-order any of the figures shown on one of dannychoo.com's following trusted figure dealers. Do excuse the quality of the reporting - me not used to doing this and get shy when on camera ^^;; Also do excuse the poor video editing too - while iMovie 08 is great at throwing something together - its incredibly crap for doing anything remotely intelligent which is why you see a mirai mark all of a sudden when in the 3D printing room - all I wanted to do was to cover an object with a logo orz.

And a quick question about video streaming. I'm aware that many of you don't have a fantastic broadband connection from a previous poll so would like to know whether you had trouble viewing the video clip.
First time here?
If you are new here, you may want to keep up with more of the same via RSS or Danny's other networks. (dont show again)

Can't wait for more tours.

Awesome stuff as usual Danny. The 3-D tech was awesome, maybe you can show us a finished computer model of what the guy was working on next time?

Awesome Danny, can't wait to see more. They really seem to have some fun at those companies, I am jealous.

I got no problem at all with the YT video, it works perfect. (b・∀・)b

You have a funny English-Japanese accent. :D At the start I even asked myself "Is that guy really from England?". :)

First off, I think this is the first time I've heard you talk in English, Danny. Nice accent! ;)

Very informative video and I guess the staff at Good Smile Company must be very familiar with you visiting and playing with their figures. I think if you were in charge, they would have to change to the "Good Eyes Company"... hmm, you should consider starting your own rival figure company perhaps?! Just kidding :P

No, problems viewing this video. For me, it's depends on the time of the month as I have a download limit and once I reach it, I go to 64kb speed, which totally suck.

I'm looking forward to more videos, Danny, especially the animation or ero company one!! (better have that Mirai mark blocker sorted out by then hehehe)

Dont' say sorry, it was a great tour - even for someone who isn't into figures it was very interessting to watch and most important, easy to understand.
Also the camera movement was pretty much good too, seems Mikatan has expierience or a load of talent for it but i didn't notice any moments were i would have said "uhh missed something" or such.
So, thumbs up and looking forward to the next one. ^^v

What an amazing tour! It's so interesting and informative. Thank you so much for sharing it with us~ :)

It must be awesome working in a Toy Company such as Good Smile. Being surrounded with figures must be heaven. D: DO WANT.

And by the way, in all this time I've been reading your blog (2-3+yrs) I think this is the first time I've heard your voice clearly, haha. You have a lovely accent. :)

Great job Danny, pretty neat to see the office, and it looks like they have a good time there compared to a normal IT office ;p

I heard from a lot of people that iMovie 08 wasnt very good, and you can get iMovie 07 what was supposed to be a lot better. It should up on apples website. Or you could get Final Cut Express if you think you're gonna keep making videos.

Keep up the good work, and maybe nextime you can to the Gundam factory : 3

Wow that was some tour, it's interesting to see the company look so normal. Somehow I half expected something as spectacular as the Bandai Gunpla factory lol. Guess I'm thinking too grand of a scale huh? I kinda chuckled when they used the figma Nagato to present the Hatsune Miku hehe.

very nicely done!

i will definately be tuning in for the next episode. (definately need a theme song... O.o)

i do truly believe GSC and Max Factory is true artists when it comes down to figure sculpting...

some companies seem to produce figures regardless whether or not they are good or bad as if they have a quota they need to meet at the end of the month...

definately, quality over quantity in my opinion...

oh btw danny, any plans to do coverage on Alter? I am expecting them to be a powerhouse in the figure world in the next year or so... would love to see something for them!

"goodies goodies goodies!"

Wow! What a nice tour! So many figures. Defo want a whole load of them. Alas, we get to hear you speak English. I hear hints of a Cockney accent and a general southern posh accent. That's coming from someone who comes from the north (which is the best) and has a mixture of British accents, most noticeably a Mancunian accent!
Wonder how much that printer costs...likely a lot lot more than my whole student loan. Thanks for the video, looking forward to future ones. GO BIG EYES!!!! O.O

These are the kind of posts that just scream for a higher-res video Danny.

I know you're a YouTube guy, but their video quality just doesn't cut it for good stuff like this. Having a YouTube version is fine as a backup, but at least have a link for us to download a better, higher quality version. Maybe a DannyChoo.com bitTorent tracker perhaps?

I really enjoyed the video danny, you seem to have a really cheeky voice, and like you remarked it must be hard to get any work done being surrounded by figures (all those eyes watching you...)
Roll on part two!!
Maybe you could try and break your record each episode by saying as many innuendos as possible ;)

I'm on a terrible 256k wireless connection, the video took a good 10 minutes to finish buffing, but it wasn't a problem to watch though after that.

loved it when every time you'd pickup a figure or take a good look at fig you'd take a really long "mmmmmm"
sounds like you're at a buffet...but not everyone's invited...T_T

I wish I could play with that 3D modeling machine and pen-computer interface!! And you kept emphasizing on the eyes -.-", and even explained it to them. I lol-ed at the explanation. Seems like you're really into eyes. Can't wait to see more insights to the offices!

that 3d pen thing is amazing. I'd totally get into digital artistry just to play around with that thing haha. It reminds me of that one force feedback 3d controller/mouse thing that some company is making for games. Saw it a long while ago and dunno what's goin on with it now though.

Great tour Danny! Can't wait for the second part.

Kinda worries me though...the amount of will power I'll need to build up once I make the move at the end of the year. Its bad enough keeping the hobby "at a budget" here in the states. I don't want to think about actually been right there WITH the hobby, heh.

That 3D machine is wild. Had never seen, or thought there was something like that (with the pressure feedback and all). Really cool!

And had no troubles viewing the video, very good work on the video btw, very informative, I look forward to the next episode!:D And as far as eye talk, yes, there was quite a bit, but I didn't mind, i'm used to that type of talk.:P
