A Week in Tokyo 8

Another tough but fun week in Tokyo.
Wonfes, photo/video shoot in Shibuya, visit to Ikea to get stuff for the office, visit to the Good Smile and Max Factory offices in west Tokyo for meetings, fruitful meetings with a record label and releasing part of the Mirai Gaia platform.

First off is the entrance to the Max Factory offices. The building used to be a convenience store which Max Factory acquired and made into their figure design studio. More from the inside later this week.
Lunch with my Good Smile comrades at a restaurant run by Max Factory called Indo Tei.
Why steal underwear when you can buy them for cheap?
Shopping for groceries at the local shopping precinct.
Looking for a basket to attach to the front of the bike for sticking in groceries and eroge mags. A basket would probably look odd on this bike but at the same time be practical - my wife has one on hers ^^;
Desk O Macs. That MacBook screen is darn dark compared to the new Macs.
In a meeting with a record label. For some reason there are photos of the Primaries and illustrations of Mirai-chan on the table.
There seems to be some form of manga near the top of the photo too..
Green Tea ice cream (Maccha). Dont usually eat this but it tasted surprisingly good.
The only way to fit in the amount of meetings I need to have is by having them over din dins.
My first time playing Taiko no Tatsujin.
I always found this interesting. Japanese folk traditionally don't sprinkle salt or pepper on their food.
In many restaurants, if you ask for salt or pepper, they bring it out in a small dish as they don't have any table top salt/pepper containers.
Meeting dessert.
Went directly to Ikea after a photo/video shoot as going home to change would just be a waste of time. Trying out some office chairs.
Some lighting which I will go back to get.
When I first came to Japan, there was no Ikea and we got most of our stuff at Tokyu Hands and Muji which cost a bomb. Now much of our furniture is from Ikea. Tis cheap and quality is good considering the price.

Do you own furniture from Ikea? I know that many of you figure collectors own the Detolf clear glass case.
Got some glass for a whiteboard and two of those office chairs.
Being a nuisance at the Ikea checkout ^^;
Do like the Ikea hotdogs.
Kaisen (seafood) Yakisoba for dinner - no meeting this time.
In Chiba for meetings.
A disaster evacuation guide. Is it just me or does it look like a man running into a hole?
A peek at some of the goodies that I suddenly acquired last week...
First off is the gorgeous Ryuna by Max Factory.
Figma Haruhi Get.
The PS2 Haruhi game with the exclusive Figma Haruhi on the left. Didn't plan on getting the game so this get was a welcome surprise ^^;
Figma wonfes Konata and Yuki = get.
Max Factory Polo Wendy and a bunch of CDs.
This photo was supposed to be at the end of the post but my script decided otherwise ^^;
Tis this weeks room.
Continuing to look at the SAFS (Suddenly Acquired FigureS). Me has a feeling that the term will be heard more often ^^;
Tis Manami-chan from Manabi Straight - another anime which I still have not finished orz.
Wonfes Nendoroid and Tsuruya-san get.

Aren't Ikea detolf basically just made for Otaku? ^_^

It was the first thing we bought after me and my Ota-gf moved out, for our CLAMP, Haruhi and other figures ^_^

Wondering what you were doing near lingerie, but I shouldn't ask. By the way, it's the thrill... The thrill! Go ask Happosai for more details.
Taiko no Tatsujin, eh? Reminds me of the Lucky Star scene... Oh how I miss this anime now.
Nice hair on the IKEA checkout pic, Danny. One did notice you doing your shenanigans. ^^
Manhole? Looks like Mr. Game & Watch can't save that one.
Lovely figures otherwise.

Danny what do you DO, exactly? How come you're visiting all these figure companies, at the same time meet idols, produce beautiful drawings of Mirai, produce a manga (?)?

ya i have a detolf too. it houses most of my figures and gundams.

speaking of which i've a suggestion. maybe we can get members to send in photos of their detolfs with their collections inside and consolidate the best ones into a post. wouldn't that be cool? ^^;

I still have 6 stackable Ikea book cases that I got when I was only 6. Really durable stuff that is. I'm a bit ashamed as I don't have the collector-mandatory Detolf, although I guess I should as my figures are gathering dust like nobody's business

Well if you call a Detolf furniture then yes, I do have one. Apart from that I don't buy furniture in Ikea, sometimes if I can spend a bit more then I'll go get something better because I find the materials of Ikea very "weak" they're not think enough, the more thick the wood the better and more resistant it is.

The past two complete furniture sets i had in my apparments were all from IKEA 100%.
On my last move to Cologne i bought a complete new furniture set again except the bed, it was still good and not to heavyly damaged by my bunnies.
Even my desk is self-made from the IKEA metal roll containers with a load of drawers, then just screwed one of their desk plates onto two of them, looks good and has awesome lots of space + moveable due rolls lol.

Btw those top lights you did photograph there Danny, i got two of them on my BONDE racks to throw light down, they are pretty nice, make a nice ambiente light if you only have them on in the room when it's dark.
Though nothing beats candles, in case of ambiente. :D
(And even candles are awesome at IKEA...)

I love Ikea. I've only been to one once but it was such a cool experience. I got a little glowing creature-light-thing. Loves it. I wanted a torch-snake too, but didnt in the end. I didnt know about these detolf glass case things, but I'm glad I do now, will prove most useful to me. Mwhahahahaha! When I was at Ikea I had swedish meatballs and fries, and for desert, lingenberry jelly!! And you get free refills on drinks!! FREE!! Everything there is sooooo cheap is awesome. And the food was mega-yummy!!

Anyways, Gyaaaaaa Choo-san!! You are sooo lucky..... the shopping district photo looked like it was straight out of Chobits!! That photo of the cheap underwear made me think of the "pantsu!" in Chobits too lol.

That Ryuna-san figure is too fine, major-WANTage. Me wants the Manabi-chan too. Such a cute figure.

Ikea is the booomb! half the stuff in my room is from Ikea.

I'm a black mac owner myself (for over a year now) and have been wondering if it was only my screen that was dimming to such an extent. My full brightness is only about a half brightness setting on my friend's newer (white) macbooks.

Anyone else having these problems? I'm wondering if I should take it in, and how much it would cost to fix =/

We have some Ikea stuff. I think everybody has at some point or another. Supposedly, Ingvar Kamprad, Ikea's founder was said to be richer than Bill Gates at some point. Sometimes our furniture wobbles when fully assembled, so you gotta get some felt pads to stabilize.

Random manga, huh? Random image of Mirai, huh? Lying randomly on the table together, huh? I'm sure its all just a coincidence, Danny. I don't see where you're going with this, as nobody has commented on it yet. ;-)

Ryuna's backside looks positively peachy.

Sneaking into a roomate's room while they are away and re-esembling their Ikea furniture is a hobby of mine. Not drastic changes, just small adjustments so that stuff that used to fit, no longer does when they return.

Sit back and watch their minds get blown. Which usually leads to frustration and anger. Good times.

My experience with Ikea is, when they work, they're always of much higher quality than any unknown-named DIY furniture you can get from Wal-Mart and others. My mom recently bought a pair of wooden TV stands from a homegrown department store. One of them is ok, missing a locking bolt on one corner, but the other is completely out of spec making assembly impossible.

May I also say that I can assemble an Ikea furniture in less time and hassle than the other non-brands.

Most of the furniture in my room is from IKEA. It's good stuff. The loft bed/desk deal I've had for over 10 years and it hasn't fallen apart on me (yet *knocks on wood*).

Im thinking of getting some of those Detolfs for the studio room in my house. It looks great for Gunpla, especially compared to wood shelves. That room is the only place I can get away with contemporary furniture though. It would be out of place everywhere else.
