4 Hours in Akihabara

Today is another variation on the "A Week in Tokyo" where we take a look at what I got up to this time yesterday.
I just love Akihabara when the road is closed off to traffic. Yesterday was a public holiday when the main road becomes a Hokousha Tengoku (whats a Hokousha Tengoku?) A ton of cosplayers come out to play and some of them are really cute like this Shana.

This girl is cutie Rino-chan from the Pinkish Trick cosplay circle.
Girls from Office Miharu.
The maid to my right has a gorgeous smile.
Meeting up with members from the Blog Dinner (whats Blog Dinner?)
For some reason, Japans top bloggers (blogs that generate the most page views) are Mac users and gadget otaku. When we get together, the table soon transforms into a display of gadgets.
Two Macbook Airs, a few iPod Touches, a few mobiles and other wireless devices. And as you saw from the previous photo - one of the guys keeps his Macbook Air in a manila envelope ^^;
Then its back out to the main road which is Chuo Dori.
I thought I would do something a bit different this time and take photos of people taking photos of me ^^;
Here you can see the moment I step into Chuo Dori.
A crowd of people start to move in.
You may need to enlarge this pic to see that he has a rabbit (?) on his shoulder.
An interesting combination of neko mimi (cats ears), a bandanna and a light saber.
At this moment there is a circle of people gathered around.
Then they all take turns to have a pic with the armor.
A large percentage of the crowd are fellow gaijin.
The crowd of people starts to grow...
And grow...
Out of the many dannychoo.com readers that I've met so far, many are spending a few days at Akiba and seems like 40% of their time is spent here ^^;
How much time do you plan to spend in Akiba on your next trip to Japan?
And then I move on when I see the boys in blue looking over at the huge crowd of people.
MacBook Air pre-ordered for the CTO thats joining Mirai Inc next month. Will make an official announcement soon.
If you recognize the shops in Akiba you will notice through these pics that theres is a constant crowd that follows me towards the station^^;
Love this guy - a Phantom of the Opera Panda.
Then I spend an hour in Asobit Hobby meeting with the store manager and taking pics of figures and Gundams - will post later this week.
Evening approaches Akiba.
The afternoon actually started like this. I seem to be making quite a few friends of late who just happen to be Idols - more of this later this week.
First time here?
If you are new here, you may want to keep up with more of the same via RSS or Danny's other networks. (dont show again)

I suppose it's not often someone 'cosplays' as a stormtrooper in Akiba. Which explains the crowd. Or is it his internet fame?

I'd feel somewhat uncomfortable in your situation, but that's what makes it so thrilling. I'd stop by Akihabara for the poops and giggles definitely.
Originality is definitely rare to come by, isn't it? I like the idea of traversing with a rabbit on your shoulder. lol

I guess I'll be spending about 10 to 15% of my next trip in Akiba. I'm only planning about 1 day on my two week trip.

Man it sure does look like you guys are having a ton of fun out there. I need to make sure I'm going on a Sunday.

Traipsing around Taibei in my regular clothes (black, tall boots, gambler hat) gets me a fair few looks, so I can relate; even so, I've never been completely surrounded. Must get difficult to get around.

... Then again, that's why Danny's wearing stormtrooper armor, right?

Since I'm going to Japan again for 2 weeks like last time, I usually have one week Tokyo, one week somewhere else. So it will be about 20% Akiba ;p But that's planning, as I probably will end up being in Akiba more, after I've done my other sight seeing. Akiba is like a fall-back location, when everything else is done ^^;

It's cool to see people love your Storm Trooper costume Danny :D

I love going to Akihabara on Sunday when they close off the road for public and many events happen on the road.

I usually stay in Japan for 2-3 weeks whenever I go down there.  Even though Akihabara is an awesome place to be, I try not to go there on daily basis so fun won't diminish each time I visit there.  Four places I usually go are Akihabara, Shibuya(for Shibuya Mandarake and other misc. Shibuya fun), Ikebukuro and Nakano Broadway.  I go to those places in random order so I'll enjoy them as much as I can and buy many stuffs as much as I can as well ^^;

Ah, I miss Akihabara already and all the shops there, this post is such a tease >_

I spent 22 days in Japan, went 3 times to Akiba. Once with the whole family (I went on a trip with 6 people from my family and 1 family friend) and twice alone.

Which was a lot considering we didn't had time to visit even main tourism places... like Asakusa-Kannon temple.

When I make it up to Tokyo, I want to spend as much time as possible in Akihabara. After all, there is a lot to see and do! Lots of money to spend too... ^o^

I've heard people remark how busy and how hard you work. You can do that since you play so hard. It's always nice to be able to mix fun and business together. I really want to make my new future as much like that as I can.

Ok, we all read the stories that tell us PC usage is dropping in Japan. I say its because Japanese are going back to the Mac. Many people forget that the Mac was really big in Japan at one time.

Danny you have become something of an idol yourself, don't you think? With how recognized you are in armor and the press exposure you get. I think it's only natural that you attract attention from the female idols.

How is the iPod Touch?
