I originally came to the conclusion that there were 4 types of male Otaku.
  • 1.Prefers 3D (real human like Idols) girls.
  • 2.Prefers 2D (anime, eroge, illustration) girls.
  • 3.Prefers dolls (Candy Girl etc).
  • 4.Prefers hybrid mix of 3D and 2D (Anigao Girls) girls.
Today I discovered via Jyohoya that there seems to be another type - the otaku who prefers a hybrid mix of 3D human and dolls...

Find more Blythe Dolls and human hybrids at Takahito's Flickr Pool.

Being a collector of Blythe (and having a store that specialises in Blythe) I find Takihito's photography intriguing.

His slightly naughty poses are the direct opposite of Blythe's natural innocence.

Yeah, this is full of weirdness. At least it seems photoshopped, and ppl aren't posing with big doll heads. You can see the chin of original girl in some pics.

For some reason though it reminds me of Christina Ricci if they made her face into a doll.

Sooo creepy. Remind me of the porcelain dolls my aunt had when I was growing up. If I stayed over at their house, it always seemed like the dolls were sating at you, wherever you went in a room, and I had to sleep in that room. It probably didn't help that I grew up on horror movies/shows and books. I look at those pictures and get the impression that the eyes are gonna shift and look right at you. That might be a good idea for a GIF animation, except somewhere where no one expects it.

mavadotar, my mother had bought porcelain dolls for my older sister when she was a child... The latter was creeped out and there was no other way than to give them away. Dang, I'm sure they'd have fetched quite some money now.

It seems that most commenters don't realise these photos are photoshopped to the max.

It's a photo of a real girl (the artist prefers school girls) then a doll's head (Blythe in this case) is 'shopped on top of it to make it look like it has a real body.

Anyway, thought I should point that out :)

Woah! Those thing are so creepy and scary. I'm happy I didn't see them in the middle of the night before going to be. I prefer my 3d girls to be simply 3d and 2d girls to be simply 2d. Most hydrid alway freak me.

i wouldn't say they're creepy or scary, after all everyone's conception of those two words are different. i do however find these photos interesting and i know at least 2 people that collect these types of dolls (although both are girls). its all about personal preference anyway. i don't see myself getting this weird hobby anytime in the future.

This is one the creepiest things I have ever seen.

Its like they came out of that chucky movie or something.

And I'm guessing by the poll that the people who like these things like them in the same way as some people like erotic images. Does anyone else find it really disturbing that most of the people in those pictures were clearly underage?

Ken, I'd disagree...
If you look at the last picture (the full of thumbnails) and look at the 3rd and 6th column of the 3rd row, you can see some real 3D females... The original ones I presume.
And I do feel they don't look ugly at all.
Let's just kick the crap of the guy who shopped their pictures. ^^

I don't understand how someone could have a fetish like this when the original girl is much better than a doll head.

I've remember seeing some of his earlier work along this line. The Blythe Doll heads on girls is just a progression. Personally, I think it's a great original idea. It helps for a photographer to have a series that distinguish oneself from other photographers.

Don't forget that many girls like these Blythe dolls... ^^; I don't think I need to say more.

Yes, Edward, whatever floats their boat I guess...
Upon looking at his photo album, I was quite stunned (in the bad way) to see very young girls with a really big head (shopped of course).
Guess we here are not really used to see that kind of things (art??), hence our common reaction.

@D_Blade, this is what being creative is all about. It's turning one's ideas into reality. Creative ideas are nothing if one doesn't follow through with them. Often many people don't agree with one's current work. My problem is when one tries to create offensive material, knowing it will create a specific negative reaction. I'm confident that you know art is subjective most of the time.

I'm not saying I think everything he has done is something I like. I'm sure if he where to look at some of my work he would have that same reaction. I do enjoy his portrait work, however... As a student of photography I try to learn what leads a photographer to creating a series. It serves as a catalyst for my own creativity.

Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not taking what you said in a negative way. Just voicing my artistic side.

Then again, maybe after all this time I'm standing on the outside around here...

Edward, I understand what you mean...
Art is all about confronting your subjective view (as a viewer) to the creation of another (the artist) who has seen his/her work as great (otherwise it wouldn't have been publicly shown).
Maybe do I look too much for the realistic value when it comes to photography. I feel that it is somehow different from painting or sculpting, as you have to deal with an image of something that originally exists and can be modified or not via one or another retouching program.
When it comes to controversy, it depends on many factors I guess... Culture, values, degree of tolerance/acceptance, etc.

I sense a terrible disturbance within the force.

Needless to say and to reiterate the vast number of already posted opinions, these Blythe Dolls are eerily disturbing like some type of horrible experiment gone wrong.

If I read into one of these creatures alone in a dark ally, I'd either run or try to drive a stake through its heart. In other words, this is definitely not my cup of tea.
