i ate almost anything i saw in japan, the only thing i couldn't get a taste for was natou, tastes to weird for my liking. I like these week posts thing, their awesome, keep it up!
Anin tofu. Yum! Still pretty much afraid of trying out Fugu unless I've got my life partner trying it together with me ^^; @Danny, Do you surf?
Hey Danny I don't know about raw beef, it just seems kinda wrong to put raw meat in your mouth. But that Fubu... I'm tempted, I've been told it's not really all that tasty and like you say feels like rubber. Anyway great blog as always, hope your next week is even better. I look forward to your next stormtrooper dance video, hmm is there anyway you can fit a santa hat on that helmet ^^
I have had raw beef during one of my trips to Japan. I didn't think so much about the meat being raw, only of the texture and flavor, which surprised me at the time.
Heh, Weiden and Kennedy, I've been looking at their website for a few weeks now. Thinking about applying for a job with them
Raw beef isn't that bad. I've had alot worse.
kobe beef, thinly sliced and boiled = yummmmmmmy!
no raw meet for me, thank you very much, but please do keep the posts coming, it's really a pleasure.
I tried raw meat, but it was a... arabic dish, turkish dish, dunno. They mix it with soy or something. But I had raw horse meat and some little fish you eat while still alive... Sushi restaurant on Shibuya 109... you gotta taste that Danny, and post some videos and pics later here so people will be completely disgusted. XD Never as bad as people thinks. I liked the horse sushi and the jumping little fishes better than... the raw shrimp sushi.
I heard the only selling point of fugu is simply because its poisonous and you need it to be handled by certified chef. Hence, poison + japanese suicidal tendency = profit!
Tofu and ice cream yes, raw egg with meat no.
I've tried Fugu and found it pretty unique. I quite like the rubbery and slightly crunchy texture. I also love raw beef and egg, I prefer my beef as bloody as possible ;)
Hmm, I'll try anything once. Hopefully more with Fugu, though once may permanently be the case.
Mmmmmm, raw beef, raw egg, fugu; what's not to love lol ^^. Still need to try fugu myself.

Hmm... Intersting to see that japanese eat raw meet too. I've had quite a few, it's actually a fancy french meal called :'steak tartare' that involves top quality raw meat, an egg, capres and whatever else you can think of adding.
raw beef, no. But I tried raw chicken before in Japan.
I had raw beef served to me before somewhere in Germany, I think the dish is called mett told the waiter if I could have it cooked, he told me thats how its supposed to be served. ^^; btw that anin tofu looks mighty appetizing.
Raw eggs, check, Raw Fish, eaten that, Raw beef, yep, (tho never with raw egg). Would have to try that one. And ending with joke... What are a fugu victims last words... 'Ummm that was tasty....URKKKKK!!!' ;-)
Isn't that like really bad for you? Raw Beef and Raw Eggs? But I do suppose you get more vitamins and nutrients from raw food (thanks Moyashimon!). Don't think I'll try Fugu just yet, too many stories have scared the shit out of me. Oooooo can't wait for the new GT-R (one of my dream cars is a Gt-r 32), freaking $80,000 over here and a Nissan sales person told me they were only going to have 2 for sale at first. Oh and my friend is from Chiba, looks very nice there.
i wonder if its safe to eat raw beef like that.. then again they probably clean it like how they do with sashimi
You're a braver man than I for trying Fugu. I don't care how experienced or qualified the person preparing it is, I won't eat something that risky. Now, the raw beef and egg I suppose I'd be willing to try. Nothing against it. And that tofu... Why does Japanese food have to look so good? Anyways, I know you can't do these every week, but I am definitely interested in seeing another.
Danny-O, awesome post. Like how this week showed less familiar territory with a more personal touch. Likey raw beef, although it sometimes doesn't agree with my stomach afterwards. I'm not a teenager anymore. Don't see the lovely Mirei-san sitting in her chair in your office. WTF? Ja!
i see most of the comments are about the food, seems people are really interested in Japanese food. this new series is very good danny, it's very informative and would save us a lot of trouble when we visit japan. keep up the good work. ps. you sure do have a lot of dinner meetings
Always eating you are, Danny.
Danny, Go for a bigger Screen! Projectors have their advantages, but I have to say they allow less of an option of moving around later. I have a 57" screen, its ALMOST big enough, but I know that size is optimized based on distance from the screen. What brand are you thinking of getting? I cut a slice of steak once and ate it raw because I was curious. Ever since then I have always preferred rare steak and beef. Bloody is good. I think Im a carnivore.
DRAGUN, Not sure which brand yet. Sakari, Unavoidable ^^; Qingy, Its the only way to fit more in the day. FatB, Shes on the wall below Noriko - now on my macbook. XSportSeeker, Anything moving stays outside of my mouth ^^; Raz23, Was thinking of that ^^ Windbell, Not al all www
Raw meat? Well, if your digestive system does not look for trouble and that bacteria don't have a party in your body afterwards (post-meal cramps, etc.), why not? As for fugu, it's the same as for caviar... I truly am not eager to try it, I also don't see the interest in trying it. I don't think I would ever invest in that anyway or have any opportunity to try. All's well in any case. I think I could not eat raw beef without problems as my darned digestive tract is quite a snob and has been more annoying with the years (Hopefully I don't suffer from any intolerances with that). Thanks a lot for that part of yourselves you transmitted to me, dear parents! ;)
ahh man, i wanna eat raw beef!
raw beef + raw egg = nom nom nom tried it and i love the combination ^____^ i haven't tried fugu though lolz
Raw beef and egg is called in Poland tatar, it's served with onion and pickled cucumber. Quite normal here, and yes, eated it couple times, still alive as you see ;) http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grafika:Tatar-1.jpg I too need new TV, courious how much cost new Pioneer Kuro 608 or 508 in Japan?
I think this will be a regular I'll be looking forward to reading each week here!! ^___^ Had raw beef or beef sashimi a while back. Looks like you're having some sort of (Korean?) hot stone pot where you mix the raw beef and egg in it to slightly cook it? Looks yummy. I've always wondered how much time do you spend dusting all your figures?!? Touch screen mini Mac coming soon for reals?!? O____o I think I'd be more scared of trying fugu than raw beef... What kind of commercial will you be in with Weiden & Kennedy? Or will it be for a top secret viral??
Those vending machines are the ones by the Brunswick bowling alley in Ikebukuro aren't they? There are a LOT there.
I wanna try some fugu!
Raw beef and egg? add some shaved pear in there and you have a korean dish! The name escapes me at the moment, but it is rather nice! so, yeah, I've had that before. I'd be interested in having some fugu but I'm sure the availability and price would be prohibitive at best!!
i sure would like to learn the Jedi way of eating raw beef w/ raw egg...and some mikuru on the side would be delightful~
Be careful with the Fugu Danny!! wouldn't want you to be out of action.(permanently)
Been in Japan 5 years but have never tried Fugu... I like the raw beef + egg! Have it every chance I get.
seems like majority of the comments are about raw beef. i like beef but never tried it raw. ('~')
looking forward to next week's article.^^;
another raw beef comment :) raw beef is very yummy! We call it "steak tartare" here in suisu... you eat it with onion rings, toast and capers. chô oishiyo~ that make me remember that i didn't eat staek tartare for a long time, awww, gonna get one next weekend! haha itadakimasu!
See, now that sounds good. Steak tartar. Trust the Swiss to come up with something very tasty.
Off type question LOL, what mech is that shown in the McDonalds pic? I can't figure it out if its from Super Robot Taisen, Armored Core or something else.
@marvin: You're right the stuff you're talking about is mett, it tastes reeaally good so I think I'd try out raw beef in Japan too ^^ @Danny: I really enjoy this series, keep it up!
I love this king of reportage about daily life. I hope u don't do shopping every day with darth vader dress, because maybe a day u'll meet someone in the conbini that belive in Jedi Religion and fight u with heim laser sword! http://www.jedichurch.com/
Ooh, I love that picture of the train carriages. Since I'm slightly obsessed with trains and subways, I love it. Didn't notice that board before in Tokyo, but I probably wouldn't have known what it was for, but it's so useful. They really think it through, and since the Yamanote line is the busiest line in the world, I'm not surprised they do something like this. I'd love to have a bigger resolution shot of that ;p
Hi! this is my first post, i've been kinda looking at the site some for a few months now. but its your "a week in tokyo" that has me signing up! its great, keep up the good work man!!
This "A week in Tokyo" series is turning out to be quite interesting. It provides a very real feeling glimpse of what life is really like over there.

This "a week in Tokyo" serie is very interesting Danny, thanks for the nice pictures
Nice, keep up the good work. This series is interesting stuff. Never tried raw beef, but if its as good as you say it is then i might try it when i go to Japan.
I saw kobe beef being served as "sushi styled". Always wanted to try when I was in Japan, but places serve this kinda dish usually very expensive.
