Just thought I'd talk a bit about Heroes because I just lurve it and recommend it throughly.

Picked up Heroes after reading recommendations in some of the comments under the Anime VS American Drama article back in March.

Heroes is about ordinary folks who discover that they have different powers. Some can fly, walk though walls, teleport through time, self heal, paint the future, read peoples minds etc and there are some who absorb others powers and can end up doing all of these things.

The first season revolved around a plot to blow up New York while the second season is - well I'm not too sure as the story is still unfolding.

There is much atmosphere to Heroes which keeps one fixated on the screen until the end of the show - which usually has a cliff hanger ending.

At the moment, the other American drama on my list is Prison Break which I've seen bits of here and there but am totally hooked on season three. Watched Bionic Woman for a while but found it lacking the edge-of-seat essence that Heroes and Prison Break is full of.
Watched Battle Star Galactica as a kid but didnt get round to watching the recent TV series - recommended?
Do give Heroes a whirl if you can fit it in your schedule - its a winner.

And see the rest of the BBC making series at YouTube.

I love Heroes! Last 2 episodes really picked up the lost steam from the slow start of this season, but I still loved every episode I've watched. Always something to talk about the next day at work.

It really makes you wonder who the villain is this season. They're not completely clear because the writing for all the characters are so well done.

I hope the writers' strike don't affect this show too much. =/

Heroes is a good watch..shame that it looks like Dec 3 might be the season finale (only 11 episodes rather then 24). I can Fully recommend the new BSG, it should be high on your to watch list. BSG is one of the better sfifi shows out there. If you have a chance have a look at Eureka (2 seasons so far), I enjoyed watching that, I think it was voted best new SfiFi channel show of 2006.

I enjoyed the first season, but was hesitant to pick up the second when I discovered that they want to keep it "ongoing".

I suppose I've been spoiled by Japanese shows that are willing to wrap up a story and let another one be told, instead only having shows that continue to run well past the times they should have ended (Japan has had those, but they aren't all that's on TV).

I was wanting to pick up season 2, but I'm not sure what effect the writer's strike has had other than just cutting the season short. I'm waiting to hear what people say after it picks back up before I watch any more.

Well Heroes... what can I say. I never got into this show, I watched the first four episodes and was quite disappointed so stopped watching it. I still can't see what the hype is about.

Heroes series in Indonesia (esp, my campus) were big hit for the 1st season, but lately when the 2nd season comes, I already not hearing my friends chit chat about it anymore, Personally I stop watching it at 3rd episode on 1st season, don't know the reason, I just don't like it ^^ not enough girls to satisfied my eyes maybe ^^

Ah, BSG definitely. Having enjoyed the original as a kid too, I was skeptical at first. But after watching the 3-hour mini-series starter, I was hooked. With lots of nice details and tributes to the original...

Grittier. Sexier. Can't beat veteran actors like Edward James Olmos. As a side note, Season 4 is coming 2008, while the BSG "Razor" feature off-shoot about Battlestar Pegasus and its tie-in to BSG Season 2 is coming this month (November).

Enjoy. May the Lords of Kobol be with you, lol.

I got to watch the first season on DVD after the first season aired, loved the series. and although I've been hearing lots of people complain about second season, I found it equally as entertaining as the first one.
btw I heard somewhere that they might cut the season short with an alternative ending because of the writer's strike in hollywood.

Astrana, wait til you see Hio and Adam goes head to head,
Adam "ando neve told you what happened to your father"
Hiro "he told me enough, he told me you killed him"
Adam "No Hiro, I am your father" ^^
I'm pretty sure it was Adam who killed Kaito Nakamura, not unless it was Peter or Claire, I mean who else could have survive falling off a New York highrise building.

Prison Break is one of the greatest shows I have seen in a long time. It is so incredibly intense. The newest season here has been pretty good, up to par with the first season.

I was a little dissapointed with the second season of Prison Break though. I thought it was lacking the intensity of the first. But it did have a lot to live up to.

You definitely need to see the first season Danny. Especially if you are liking this new season.

Oh yeah... and Heroes is pretty damn good too!

Watching it, but slowly.
Didn't finish the first season yet.

On other series, as much as lots of people dropped by now and I've heard several people saying they "hate" it, I'm still following Lost... more closely than Heroes even.

And I'm currently beginning the 3rd season of 24.

That plus anime plus reading blogs everyday = time for nothing else. :P

And I do mean it... before that I'd watch all recent movies. Now I think it's been almost 2 years I don't watch anything new. Apart from like 5 movies I watched in the movies...

Great show, purchased season one on DVD even. However, the integrity of season 2 might be compromised due to the US writer's strike and the retooling of episode 12 as a possible season finale.

Heroes is great. Most of the episodes of the new Battlestar Galactica are good, with a few exceptions. I will warn you, however, that the series is really bleak much of the time, especially the miniseries that kicks it off.

Another amazing American series is Firefly, a series that ran for only 14 episodes back in 2002. Had enough of a following to get a theatrical film as a follow up in 2005, though. It's my personal favourite of the bunch.

These are my two favorite dramas

Battlestar Galactica

It just gets better and better, the soundtrack is amazing, the CGI is movie quality, the plots are engrossing, and the acting is top notch. Start from the mini series which is included in the season 1 dvd box set.

House:

The Sherlock Homes of medicine, he is such a bastard, you can't say no. Give it a shot.

Give Grey's Anatomy a shot, I hated it until i gave it a chance (3 episodes +), my girlfriend no has me hooked on it. I'd recommend you watch it form the beginning like Battlestar Galactica, otherwise it is very hard to follow.

It's a good show, unlike House it's more sex and scandal and friendship plot base. Where as House is more science and more character centric but the two shows make for a great night of medical TV and I love them both.

Funny Danny should post a topic about Heroes just when there is breaking news about Hayden Panettiere (cheerleader), and her little dolphin saving stunt a little while back.

Apparently Japanese authorities have issued a warrant for her arrest. Guess she better steer clear of Japan for awhile. Any bounty hunters willing to bring her in? I'm sure they'll pay you handsomely in figures and manga if you prefer.

I just finished season one tonight via Netflix. It's the first American TV series I've watched in a long time. I'm so used to the more compact structure of anime that I got bogged down. It's a very good series, but for all its great moments (and it had plenty) I found I had little patience for the pacing. The characters would interact over and over and I got the impression they were doing it only because there was an hour to fill. How many DL/Nikki/Jessica/Mikah scenes did the characters need before they figured it out? How many Isaac/Peter/Simone scenes? Characters were introduced and then completely ignored (Zack, Invisible guy, Parkman's wife, Claire's real mom) the moment they were no longer useful.

And I thought serial killers went out with the 90's. Cliche.

That said, I loved the season one finale. But I have not the desire or patience for season two.

Heroes is excellent, and season 2 is starting to shape up after a fairly slow start...

Also what should be recommended is Dexter. It's a dark tale that's like a cross between CSI and American Gothic.

The main character is a blood spatter analysis criminologist. And a serial killer. Except, he's a serial killer that was raised by a cop, who noticed his urges to kill, and encouraged him only to kill the bad guys that the cops don't/can't catch through legitimate means.

Sounds contrived, but it's really quite compelling ^_^

Heroes is one of my favourite TV shows. Season 1 was great and so far Season 2 is building up to a great start. Here, we're just up to the episode where we found out who Adam is (and what a beautifully ironic twist that was) and next ep we get to find out what really happened with Peter.

I also like Prison Break, first season was almost always at the edge of your seat. Second season wasn't as good, but the new season is building up with lots of good twists.

House and My Name Is Earl are other TV shows I watch.

Battlestar Galactica is one of the best tv series that I've seen in years.

If you are going to watch it you should start from the beginning. You have the miniseries, seasons 1, 2 and 3 and the recent "Razor" tv movie, in that order. There are also a few "webisodes", the first batch fit before season three and the last batch fit before "Razor".

If you like Heroes I think that you would like Galactica also. There are some amazing moments in the series that get stuck in your mind for a long time.

lol the Screencaps are from Global =D

Season 1 was amazing, followed through it completely. Storytelling was very well done and characterization was neatly built up as well.

Season 2 started off slow, apparently the writers have realized that and the last two episodes have "started" to pick up the pace again. Unfortunately with the strike looming, we may not get anymore episodes soon.

Just another thing which I would really like to watch, but don't have the time.

Have to agree with GundamJehutyKai though, house is just pure brilliance. I don't even like hospital type series, but he is just hilarious.

So no mention of the ridiculous pronounciation issues of when certain characters (Ando, Ando, Ando) are given scripts in a language they do not speak and apparently have had little voice training in...?

Related! Japanese police want to arrest Hayden Panettiere for the whole dolphin incident (protest). This show is epic. Finally a nice guy with great super-powers... Hiro is the best.

I agree with Mac about being spoilt by japanese shows (or in my case, anime mostly) I was expecting Heroes to be short ^^;.
Nevertheless I'm enjoying the new series so far though it keep coming up with new twists! My favourite scenes are the ones with Hiro, especially before the last episode x3.

This is probably the only American show I watch every week that isn't a reality show or sports. I love the plotlines they make, and Hiro is the man. LOL wsup with the old Star Trek crew showing up in this show? First Sulu is Hiro's Dad, and now Uhura is D.L.'s mom/grandma. LOL does Sylar being cast as a young Spock in the upcoming Star Trek movie have something to do with it. Anyways, awesome ass show, but although I love it, I hope they don't drag it along too much like so many American shows do.
