Round up of all news items and posts from last week - this weeks theme is...

Dustbins. Given the lack of dustbins available, I' surprised that the streets over here are relatively free of rubbish. Spend a lot of my time carrying rubbish around in my bag until I find a Seven Eleven.
I'm guessing that many of bins started to disappear after the Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo underground which killed many people years ago.
Is your region devoid of bins too?

BTW, for folks who dont get to visit regularly, you can gain access to the roundups from the drop down menu in the navbar.

Henry, amen to that. I gave my lunch sandwich to a kid on the street in Manila once, she ate the sandwich and threw the wrapper right onto the sidewalk. the next time I do that I'm keeping the plastic bag and tissue wrapper, and give the food by passing it to them with my bare hands. ^^

Yes, but not nearly as much as in Japan.
Though I dunno if it really could be considered a problem if you compare Japan to Brazil.

Because we do have lots of trashcans, but either they are all broken and vandalized, or people just don use it and throw the garbage all over the streets.

Public restrooms are a mess I feel sick only speaking of them.

I noticed there are no trashcans on metro stations in Japan, and you don't see many of them on the streets also... only near drink machines and they usually are only for bottles.

But the streets are clean, and you don't see people throwing stuff on the ground randonly as you can see here in Brazil very oftenly.

Public restroom... I think I only gone on 2 that were really messy in Japan, and it was on those sunday events that happens on temples.. some sort of matsuri.

Worst of all, I have to guess the mess was made by foreigners, because there was tons of them there, and the mess was: someone "missed" because there was only standard japanese toilets. No, don´t try to imagine it.

The Japanese know how to keep clean. I wish i counld say the same for some Singaporeans, whom i saw throwing rubbish on the ground. We definitely need more bin; the offenders give stupid excuses like "the bin's too far away" when it's only a few steps to the bin.

There are plenty of bins in the center of Birmingham (the city where i work) but i still see lazy bastards throwing their rubbish on the floor when theres a bin a few yards away. Litter is more of a social problem than something to do with the lack of bins.
This is obviously not so in Japan - very few bins, yet hardly any rubbish around! It is a pain carrying that big empty bottle of pocari sweat to the ends of the earth until you find a bunch of recycle bins...

Danny I'm wondering about something on your site... wheneven I open a newsitem, I get the text of it and the pictures, but then when I want to scroll down to the comments, I have to scroll ~7 pages (pagedowns) of short intros to your other stories, which I've already read...

I'm using Firefox, with NoScript and AdBlock. I still get Ads by Google though, and they're also before the comments. Normally, I'd only get 3 or 4 related items, so it wasn't so bad to scroll through, but 7 pages worth is alot :(

Not really a shortage of bins in my local area, it's generally kept clean, although the after effect of Bonfire Night has left quite a few round black plastic blobs of melted bin over the floor in places, damn kids and their fireworks.

@Keats, isn't the whole point of a weekly roundup to re-introduce all the posts that were made during the week? I could be wrong though...
I get all the summaries from the current week as well (yes, quite a long scroll down to the comments xD;). Not too bothered about it though. I might have missed something on the side for the past week or so.
On topic though, there are a fair amount of bins in my area, not too much rubbish around. There are some 'hotspots' where the bins can get full, but the council cleaners generally come by before it overflows to the ground too much.

Yea, you've got a point, but even the article for the roundup of week 45 is in that list. And I checked, it's actually 10x Pagedown for me. I doubt that Danny writes that many articles in a week :-P

Throwing trash into plastic containers in order to keep the city clean? Interesting concept. I see how it could work, assuming people cared for their environment and keeping their city clean.

We have trash-cans all over the place in Miami, yet people seem to always miss them. You find trash laying on the street blocks away from a trash-can (Ok, by "miss them" I really meant not aim for them at all

Miami isn't complete trash, but if you come from a place where there is no trash on the streets, get ready to notice the difference.

I place pieces of paper in my pocket until I find a bin to dump it all in. Sometimes I get home and remember I still have crap in my pockets -_-.

(Sorry for posting twice, but it seems to cut my post off every time I post from this computer -_-)

We don't lack bins but people just fling their sweet wrappers and whatnots on the floor 'cause the "No Littering" law hasn't been enforced quite lately.

That's why our streets are getting dirtier.

We have enough bins over here, but still many people throw their stuff on the ground because they're too lazy to walk to a bin or they don't want to put the stuff in their pocket and that attitude really annoys me. Gum is usually spit out on the ground, cans and papers get thrown away on the ground very often as well.

You can see where putting bins here and there would have done. I am pissed off each time I see trash lying on the streets and pathways. I really would want to pick that stuff, put it in bags and put them in bins (did that a few times) but it's only asking for people to pollute even more. *Grumble*
Darned collective lazy mentalities.
They really should keep their trash and put it where it belongs (and at least their rubbish could have a chance to be treated/recycled)...!!

Two observations can be made in my area about bins...

1) Your chance of finding a bin is like finding $50 note on the ground.
2) EVEN when you do find a bin, it is usually overflowing so whe
