Are there freelance pilots? ^^;
Ah, no. There arent freelance that I have ever heard about. The only drawback to joining the army to pilot a gundam, is it would probably end up like the army or the airforce now. A bunch of people want to fly jets, and most of them sit around doing other things. The very lucky few actually get to fly. We can all dream though.
I dont know how far off these are. Imagine being the generation that sees this enormous machines come to life. We have all the available technology, screens, cameras, lasers, and firepower. Carbon science is advancing and stronger and stronger armors are being developed all the time. I always wondered why advancement has not proceeded in this area.
REALLY?!?! man tht would be awesome but America would find an some reason other than WMD to have a pre-emptive strike just to steal it all away
here we go... the gundam invasion... I want a valkyrie invasion also..
It's about time someone started building Gundams...
Yes, I'm interested in piloting a yellow horned, multicolored machine with beamspam capabilities and hoping to meet a mask rival in the battlefield piloting a red-colored machine that went 3 times faster than usual ones. Problem is, I lack the qualification of looking rather effeminate as well as lacking the necessary personality of being a whiny, brooding, unstable, emotional young man.
do they plan to build mechas from Sky Girls and Gurren Lagann as well? XD
Nah joining the army they probably would give you some lousy gundams to pilot. Based on my gundam watching experience, you should start searching for some radical organization that wants to save the world and stop the war with their 4 awesome gundams.
I knew it, I KNEW IT! GUNDAMS WILL BE REAL IN THE FUTURE!!!! YES!!!!
yes gundam! I most likely wont to pilot one! But it would be even better if they gave me VF21 from Macross Plus! Do u think the agility of the gundam will be as good as the movie! I dun want to end up kill by tanks or notmal jet plane!
Mobile suits are not just a dream...We should remember that almost all the modern technologies we see and feel today are products of mans incredible imagination...from the Da Vinci's contraptions, to Star trek's gizmos. There is an idea, I have no doubt it will become a realization in the not so distant future or should I say that it's already being done and existing but we just don't know anything about it for now.
The capabilities of the gundams, especially its thrusters and proportion systems are way beyond our current machanical capabilities. However if there be a viable gundam-like machine, I would join the underdogs and maintain their stubborn ideology.
if gundams were real i would join the army in a heartbeat
Just joining the army will not exactly get you a gundam. You will need an extraordinary amount of trust before they put something worth millions (or billions) of dollars into your hands. The problem is, human life is not worth that much. I love the idea of having gundams, but it scares me enough how we have problems with nuclear weapons already.
It would be even better if they had fin funnel system :x
I guess the most technologically viable thing to build at this time would only be the guntank....
Woot~ I'm one step closer from piloting a Gundam Mk-II ^^;

A mobile suit is way too tall for operations and taking cover from strikes, not to mention too clumsy to walk on its own and may cause more destructions than defending Tokyo... Wanzers amd labors are more likely to be realize because their are smaller, faster and lighter, suit for urban combat. Who knows? Maybe China and US already got MSs...
-_-", real giant robots would make the worst kind of war machines... cool... but not very effective. Smaller robots would make sense, but you don't get the feel of sitting inside it....
gundum sure is will be a good shooting target for the airforce, tanks, rpg, artilery, and missles.
awesome................ anime really inspires real world isn't it? lol
As awesome as it would be, unlikely we'll get anything like a Gundam in terms of today's warfare. Closest thing we "could" get is a walker, and even then they'd be a problem in nearly every field from maintenance to urban survivability. I don't think humanoid war machines will be realised until there's a major change in the way warfare operates
personally, i prefer the Arm Slaves from Full Metal Panic.(especially ARX-7) but i would not mind having Gundams as well. I think the ministry chose to focus on gundams because it has been around for a long time and is probably better known compared to other mechas.
It's finally happening ^^, giant robots defending Japan lol. Can't wait to see Godzilla and all those other big monsters fight the Gundam.
Come to think of it, I've never seen an episode of any Gundam series that showcases how pilots operate a Gundam...
Personally, I think creating a gundam for warfare is still a far off dream. I doubt it's possible to make an effective gundam with our technology right now. It'll just be a giant walking target if it can't be as mobile as gundams from zeta and onwards. Maybe a hundred of years from now might be possible(alas gundam 00).
Ken: Your point about needing trust to operate something that costs millions is true to a point. I've been in the Army for a year and a half, and yet my job in my unit is to drive an M3A2 Bradley Cavalry Fighting Vehicle. They cost about 3.2 million dollars each. And I've only been in the Army for a year and a half - I have friends assigned to Bradleys who have been in less time than I have. An F-16 costs about $19 million each and the newest pilots have only been in the Air Force for maybe a year, year and a half. Really, it's less about trust in the person themselves and more a trust in the training they've received. I'd only driven a Bradley three times in my advanced training before I got to my unit. An F-16 pilot goes through about a year of training before he or she gets to their unit - but that's because an F-16 is so much more complex than a Bradley.
One engineering issue with a real life gundam would be the power source batteries will not make the cut the closest practical power source I can think of would be either a gas turbine or large diesel engine or a non conventional option a mono propellant H2O2 gas generator like in the vanderbilt prosthetic arm. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/news/releases/2007/8/20/rocket-powered-mechanical-arm-could-revolutionize-prosthetics Though in theory the leg joints could be made more robust then the links in a track but it also would be more difficult to repair in the field.
interesting that the Ministry of Defense is taking serious on bipedal mechs but the astronomical costs on R&D, building and maintenance. @Membrane we might not have the sufficient power source to power advance personnel units but there has been some advancement in nuclear fusion research and maybe sometime in the future human could develop mobile fusion reactors that could power these war machines
ikimasen lol lol.. japan... the place for all fantasies~
Is it to combat the pokeman? http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5895/1184439861974ec4.jpg
Another solution might be the ultra compact fission reactors being developed by nasa for powering a manned mission to mars. If you can generate 6 megawatts of power for the vasimr rockets you can travel to mars in less then 45 days. Some of the concepts such as the Israeli Am242 reactor might be able to power a gundam. http://www.tfot.info/articles/26/americium-power-source.html
Bwahahaha! I'm sorry. As much as I'm a big fan of Gundams... They ain't gonna happen in real life. I like the Kotoki Fix pic Danny. Nu Gundam?
if i were a gundam pilot, i'd rename myself to Kale Amsel. IKIMASU! hehehe.
:D Wow ,If they do start to build gundam imagine how much research would have to be put into it, i mean come on. It's not gonna come that easily. a 20 foot tall robot.
need info on where can I sign up in the gundam unit
i personaly think that it is technicaly possible but we wont be around to see it happen i beleive that it will at least take a couple of centurys but i dont really see how a gundam can be usefull in the battlefield of the future it will have the same vulnerabilitys and dowsides of todays MBTs espacially with advancements in the manufacturing of portable and highly effective ATGMs anyway i think its cool lol
personally i think its a bit of a no go. They may look cool but they would just be impractical in real war. not to mention that each one would cost billions if not trillions of $ That doesnt stop me wanting one though, and if they did ever do it they will have to beat people back at the gates of the recruitment office with sticks.
sniper + gundam armor piercing shell gundam are totaly pawned
i just want to remind that we can not be 100% sure that a gundam can not be of any use in the battlefield because we have seen this in the past with the tank that was thought to be to large and vulnarable yet the tank has proven it self to be a wonderfull instrument of warfare samething for the airplane when in WW1 genarals beleived that besides recon missions the plane can not do much in the battlefild so only time would tell us if it would be a success or a failure
"Here Bolobolobolobolo! I have a nice new mech for you to play with!" It would be better if they MP Knightmare frames, like, an RL version of the Nissan Dualis.
Well, I'm sure many of us have different views (I told some of my friends about it, and they responded back in either harsh criticism or total ignorance) but imagine how it'll push the boundaries of engineering and information technology! Being optimistic, I'd certainly hope it'll proceed on with walker unit developments.
Yea.Some of my friends will scold me gundam nuts...However i still luv em N of course wan to pilot them IF there is a chance.
Japan is making all my Dreams Come true.. (Yes All of them)
w00t! let's get those gundams flyin' ^^
Piloting a gundam isn't really high on my "want to do" list, surprisingly, despite me being a big mecha fan. I'd much rather have something along the lines of an Ingram AV-98 Labor! Better chance of it happening too! Gundams are just Eyecandy!
You know I always joked about this around friends. "You know I'm pretty sure they have Gundams/ other robotic monstrosities hidden in the Tokyo Bay or off the coast of Hokkaido in case of emergencies."
hell yeah!!
sorry for double posting, could you link us to the *.PDF file, danny?
well, if was given a chance. i would accept it. i mean, it will be a dream come true. riding inside a true robot is one of my fantasy dreams. i like it. hehehe
I think we are more likely to see a Gundam Live Action movie... but the real deal? When did they discover Gundanium alloy? ;)
Will it fly to space? XD If so, sign me up. ^^
cool!! XD
Hey, isn't that pic the backcover of the early package of Gundam Fixes? =)
I would like to sign up to pilot one now, but I'm not a 14 year old socially confused boy so I guess I'm not a candidate.
I'd pilot a Gundam but it'd suck 'cause I'd never get to be a "Newtype". :D
That would friggin rock! I would def join the army to pilot a gundam! It would be so AWESOME!
OMFG
no, I would rather design the next version :) Creator over pilot for me.
I wonder... I guess Anti-Gundam groups in conflicts and wars would aim for the legs (with Stinger missiles and the like)... Got to reinforce those parts if Gundams or other mechas would be created and mass produced. Welcome to the Future if this is proven to be true!
OH YEA, GIVE ME ONE OF THEM. well, i assume they won't everyone pilot them. Kind of Air Force, if you join does not mean you will fly.
WOW. i cant wait for a satelite cannon to blast everithing! How about using evangelion like cable as its source of energy? but thet would limit it's mobility...

hmmm now if only I could convince the top brass at MI18 that a gundam would be way better then a Mini(http://www.mini.co.uk/) to haul guns and other stuff for M.A.D then I too could be trampling stuff......
rnurmin, It is but goes well with the article. Kite_DH, Here goes http://www.mod.go.jp/trdi/infomation/happyou/Program.pdf Jorweek, Sure is.

Piloting a gundam was and still is one of my dream. Yet, lets just face it. Piloting a 20 meter tall war machine without any lightning reflexes and a bit of spatial awarness will put me and my gundam in the same level as those cannon fodder GMs. Besides, i have a bad stomach. I can't stand riding roller coaster, let alone a mobile suit :D

what! is this 4 real . piloting a gundam will be great!!!!!!!!!!!!helping the army.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVwbUljGs3g
technically speaking it's impossible. how are we gonna make a thing that big fly and stays in mid air? not forgetting preforming acrobatic movements as well.
nothing is impossible as long as u have the will xDD
just like man go to the moon....gundam is possible though...50 years from now maybe... and maybe it will be used not for war..but 4 evacuation and stuff...
btw where did u get that pic's....awesome photoshop i say...
No thanks. I'll ride the badass Tallgeese/Custom Flag-type suits built to counter the Gundams. :)
As long as they don't make it 8 stories tall. If they are going to do that they may as well paint a bull's eye on it. Realistically the robot would be something like a "power armour" of 2~2.5 meters tall, used for construction, logistics, emergency (hazardous environment operation, like fire rescue). I don't see it being used as a weapon. I mean, a guy wearing a t-shirt and sandals and equipped with a shoulder mounted armour piercing rocket launcher can easily take out a small (or big) multi-million dollar mobile suit.

So are they going to use these Gundams to invade China and Korea? Kill more Koreans and Chinese?
I wish after 10 years, it will become true *smiling*.
oh if they invade korea or china or especially the U.S.A i will seriously make a A.C and bust there gundam asses back to tokyo =_=. anyways it is worth looking forward to if they make a gundam in the next 15 or 10 or 20 or any years. but it would cost massive amounts of $$$
they showed this on tv it was on Attack of the Show on teh channel G4. they said that this gundam project originally started a model type thing (Im assuming maybe just for a show for kids or something) but now they are developping fully-functional suits they cost about $750,000,000 to build i personally would love to see these things get built although if they are going to be used as weapons it can be a bit of a problem. and people sayign these are going to suck and wtv well yeah of course, the first generation ones anyway. here's my prediction: they WILL be built within the next few years ( i cant give an estimate but lets say maybe 5-15 years) theyre most likely going to be fairly slow and womky controls and they most likely wont be able to fly of course these will just be first gen models over time these things are goign to get better and better and who knows maybe they'll be just as swift and agile and they are in the show. maybe they'll even be able to fly ( although teh space flight may be a but of a stretch) as for their weapons, well who knows we'll just have to wait and see
As much as I would want it to be really made, mobile suits are just plain impractical. Too expensive for a highly vulnerable machine. "Look! lotsa joints! wonder what would happen if I stick an RPG between them!!" "Wow! Boosters on the back! I bet they're connected to a highly combustible fuel supply!!" "Bipedal robots! can they still walk with one leg??" "The uber important hands used for grappling weapons and hand combat are lined with really thin armour! guess what happens next..." Only in SciFi
