Calendars for the following year go on sale pretty early. We started promotion of calendars early at Amazon to make sure we get rid of as much stock as possible - otherwise we are left with calendars that we have to get rid of at a heavily discounted price as the new year begins.
I've seen calendars on sale as early as summer time.

These two lovely lasses are Yui Aragaki and Maki Horikita. Maki is just so edible.

CLANNAD, Hayate, Gundam 00 and more anine calendars.
You can also see the top 150 best selling calendars in Japan in the Ranking Charts section - the number one selling calendar being Yuri Ebihara from yesterdays post.

As much as I'd like a calendar, I don't think I would be able to choose from the variety. Do you religiously buy a calendar every year? If so what type?

I always used to buy a calendar every year - normally a one of a pinup girl or famous model, but then i stopped when i realised that my phone's calendar is much more efficient. I can set reminders and add notes easily, and its always with me.

I don't use paper calenders anymore lol. I now rely on my cell phone or computer to tell me the day and if I have to do something important ^^. Though if I could get an idol to tell me that then I would definitely switch.

I got a very cute human calendar that can remind me everthing ^^ it's my GF though ;3 I'm a veeeeery forgetful person, so it would be useless to have a paper calendar, cause I always forget to write reminder notes there and even to take a look at it ^^

For me it's the ones that you get free from some promo or animu selling stores... or none at all.
But I did buy one from Hunter x Hunter some years ago.
The good thing about Japanese calendars is that they look like posters, so I see why people would buy them.

Here in Brazil is kinda rare for people to buy calendars... since it's pretty common to stores to give them away as gifts.

I usually buy quite a few every year. I generally prefer the manga calendars over the anime ones. The past couple of years I've gotten the Negima and Suzuka manga calendars.

I liked when they had Tenjou Tenge ones.

Not sure what to buy this year. Was thinking the Fairy Tail manga calendar and don't know what else to get. (hoping i see a suzuka one again)

I never buy calanders, although my mom sometimes receives a Chinese calander from my aunt. But usually if I don't know what date it is I just push one button on the TV remote control or if I'm behind the compter I just hover over the taskbar with my mouse. BTW Rainlendar is indeed a nice decorative alternative for the traditional calander.

I saw those exact photos at Asahiya the other day! I was tempted to get a Naruto calendar but I figured if I buy it then throwing it out at the end of the year will be TSURAI. So instead I have a crappy American VIZ Naruto calendar that I have no problems chucking in the bin :)

Magazine calendars are usually good, my personal fav is the one from Arena magazine but I also get the free Porsche Dealership calendar.

I dont' really buy any calendars since the calendars around here ain't worth anything. If I were in japan though I'd buy those idol/anime calendars. Maybe a maki horikita/kaho calendar would be nice. ^^
