So whats Kentucky Fried Chicken like in Japan?

I don't really care about the rumors of Kentucky using alien chickens - the stuff tastes quite good and their menu is full of yummies.
This is their latest product - the deep fried chicken with spice and seaweed. 250 yen per piece. The CM that gets you running out to the nearest Kentucky is below staring Tsuyoshi Kusanagi from Smap who stared in my fave drama Koi ni Ochitara.
I remember Kentucky back in the UK - the fries tasted like paper and the chicken like rubber gloves. Never saw any Kentucky chains in the US though. Is it not popular over there?

Below are some Japanese Kentucky ads thrown in for good measure. The Kentucky logo looked very different back in 1981.
Rie Miyazawa above and below.
Rie in another ad back in 1988.
Yuka above who used to be a gravure idol.

I tried Kentucky when I was in Japan. Tastes pretty much the same to me except that their fries are really good.

Didn't had a chance to try the new product they had but we had a similar product a few months back as well.

KFC is extremely popular here in the states. As far as taste, I haven't tried them since they changed their recipe, but it used to be pretty good. It's just extremely greasy.

I heard they tried to change their name to Kitchen Fried Chicken in the states, but it didnt happen. I personally dont eat fast food, but there are a bunch of them out here. Maybe you just missed them in L.A. Danny? In the US they have a problem with rats being attracted to the batter for the chicken. Enjoy!

Never tried it in Japan yet, but the menu does seem more appealing.
In Australia the stuffs great but you feel like a beached whale after with the cholesterol just sitting in your stomach!
As kids we used to call it Kentucky Fried Cat :)

Anyone remember years ago when the 'secret' recipe was found in a old chest of drawers that were sold. There was a huge court battle on trying to keep it from being used. In USA of course

I prefer Popeyes over KFC, the chicken has more flavor and I think less greasy. Plus I can get some southern adaptation like jambalaya that you don't normally find around here. But we have many KFC's here in the states, though they are very dispersed.

I rarely eat KFC here in Canada. When ever my mom decides to buy fried chicken, it's always from Churches chicken. Not saying KFC is bad though, but i just like Churches better ^^;. But man, that commercial just got me drooling. On other hand, thinking of the amount of MSG from those spices also scares me Xd. Bet is going to make you hella thirsty after eating one.

I do my best to avoid eating out at fast food restaurants. I eat fast food only if I'm in a place where I can't be picky (foreign country, airports, etc). I stick largely to home cooking on a diet of mostly fish.

That so-called 11 herbs and spices is nothing more than a fancy marketing catchphrase to cover up its basic ingredients of merely flour, salt, black pepper and MSG.

The KFC's here in Australia used to be really gross but I think they've somewhat cleaned up their act (due to a change in chicken suppliers, mostly), though their restaurants tend to be really grubby (the staff don't seem to clean as well or as often as say McD's).

What I found interesting about these ads from Japanese KFC is how they've managed to integrate the chain (with its foreign-ness encoded into the name "Kentucky") into the Japanese way of life, using elements of traditional Japanese culture in their promotion. And it seems to have worked, what with KFC becoming an integral part of Christmas celebrations in Japan and all that.

Here in the US, I hear people say frequently how they love eating at KFC.

I generally think they're insane. Not only do I find the flavor to be awful, but they put some sort of solution in all their food (MSG, perhaps?) and I can't eat their food without being ill. Perhaps its regional. It certainly wasn't the case when I was a kid.

Well, I say that, but a week ago I did have a meal from KFC that some one else bought for me. It was the least offensive meal I'd had there in probably 15 years.

I'm a man who love his fried chicken. I look forward to trying Kentucky when I'm in Japan, because it looks different. I highly recommend Popeye's and Church's chicken restaurants when in the US.

 Hi all,

I love KFC, even though their chicken is enhanced and altered through science lol.

@Danny, you said you didn't see a KFC here in the states and asked if we have em...was that a joke? Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded in the USA in 1952 by Colonel Harland Sanders. Obviously in the state of Kentucky.

Its usually safe to assume that most of the giant fast food monsters emerged from the states. We're are impatient and overly-materialstic people after all.

Interesting fact: Wendy's founder Dave Thomas worked at a number of different KFCs before opening his now world famous Wendy's line. Dave Thomas was also from Ohio, woot!

KFC is popular around here, and it tastes good! However, I've heard that they really abuse their chickens.
i.e They give them growth hormones and they grow too fast for their bodies so their legs will break under all that extra weight.

Personally I stopped eating the stuff a long time ago in a campaign to better my health, but I will admit the stuff if friggin delicious.

It is also a heart attack and although I don't like the way they treat the chickens, yet we have dominion over animals- I am not a big fan of corrupt corporations and their bid to make and worship the almighty dollar.

I still eat at Pizza Hut ^^. If Japan has a few then her and I will become VERY good acquaintances. Fast food really is bad for you in excess, and I am cutting it along with soft drinks (Pepsi) from my diet. I have a disease known as hypothyroidism where my metabolism doesn't work properly, so I have to watch exactly what goes down my tube. Fast food and soft drinks, especially for me, will provide more of a barrier to get through as I look towards my target weight.

That menu looks kinda good, as KFC here is a grease-fried mess usually. I still probably wouldn't try it, as I hate pulling meat off of a bone, and I can't really take dark meat and fat/skin mixed in. Incidentally, I remember when I was in Japan for the first time, and my host mother made a crock pot full of "beef with edible bones" as they put it, and I was severely grossed out.

Havent had one since I am in school. We have a competitive in Vancouver towards KFC which is called Church's Chicken. And no, its not a bunch of church people who fried the chickens. Here is a site, www.churchs.com . Its only located in BC, Canada from I believe.
