Well you know what an Itasha (痛車) is but what do you call one of these?

These are known as Itachari (痛チャリ) and can usually be seen dotted around Akihabara.
痛 (ita) = pain
チャリ (chari) = Bike

So why are cars or bikes that are plastered with anime characters labeled with the word "pain" ?
In Japan, Otaku are still looked down upon as being uncool and having these stickers on ones car or bike is seen as "painfully embarrassing" - so now you know.
Looks cool to me though and would love to do my bike up like this. Picture taken of this Sumomo Itachari by Frankie.

Just for the heck of it I would get one. Reminds me of a pimped out girl's Huffy bike.

Needs better wheels. Yellow tires don't go well with pink.

I hate pimping out vehicles even if it's a bike.

What worries me is that it's bound to be a hot item for otakus to hijack it from me.

Itasha is alright, but that!?
Itachari is definitely a no-no o.o;
I'd think girls would be afraid to ride that.

wow! and i thought putting anime characters onto a vehicle is only limited to cars and bus XDD

there's no otaku who would not like to have an anime characters onto their vehicle XDD

I didn't know "Itachari" exist until now. I am always glad I am a Japanese when it comes to humor.

It is funny but cool name.

Some weird concepts here:
1st- Otakus riding bikes? wut? :P
2nd- a commenter said something about Otaku stealing bikes. I can't even imagine how something like this could happen. XD

About Itachari... well, I'd do it, as long as it didn't have to be pinku like the one on the photo.
That is, if I had a bike. Healthy green transportations... can't even remember what was that.

Interesting, not for me, but I am up for creative freedom.

It definitely shows what you like and makes your ride unique. Why not, others pimp up their car, so why not have a custom bike. I have seen some rides here in LA too. Custom bikes with lots of chrome. These people make our walk in the street just a little more interesting. Heads up.

lol otaku are still being look down i guess a huge majority of the ppl in japan are being look down lol by themselves
but it'd be really odd to own one, perfect good to take pictures/ look at one.
Cars would look cool, bike? i dunno but if soemone do it for me for free, i'll accept it happily ^^
and the sumomo looks good (theres not much space to make it anime so i persoanlly prefer a car since its big and capable of huge picture)

In my opinion, they are called "pain" + "car" because it will be extremely painful for the owner when those stickers get dirty from the dirt or grease on the road.

Anyway, they look extremely cute ^^ Would like to see more in the future.

Haha, "itachari" - I love it!

So if it had the huge handlebars and the big basket could you call it a "mamaitachari"?

Trying to envision that combination just blows my mind. :P

Never seen one of those around Akiba, but I did spot a bike with a Haruhi sticker on the seat near Nakano Broadway once. Yeah, that's right. He was planting his butt right on Haruhi-sama every time he went to ride somewhere.

But some creepy-looking otaku type? NONONONONONNONNOONONNOONNO THAT is just wrong D:'

I think the word "chari" is a derivation from the word "chariot"

I think the bikes are called Mama-Chari or Mom's Chariot....

I would'nt like to see a man piloting that bike around... (Piloting? I mean Ride).

I recon, the pink should of been richer in colour and metallic, equiped with pink lined tires.

I've prefer my bike unchanged. 'cept adding on the headlight for night bike outs :]

Some of the itasha and itachari decals can be pretty stylish, I find. I wouldn't however ride around on a pink bike. That's just too girly.

Ah, I was wondering about the "otaku" thing, whether or not it still is considered a derogatory term. Funny how fanatics in other countries use the word like a badge of honor.

Is there such a thing as a "casual" anime fan?

That is nice for an idea.

I know how to ride a bicycle, but I haven't tried in years and am not really interested, so it's not much better than not knowing how to use one. XD

Well, people, you are not obligated to choose a flashy pink bike to ride (with Itachari included) to be noticed or to show your passion for anime, games, etc.

The same troubles as for Itasha occur here, notably vandalism and theft.
