The three hour special will be aired from 8pm to 11pm. They are calling it a three hour special but I suspect that at least 30 mins of that is going to be commercials.
So whats new then? Well there will be scenes that wasn't shown in the anime series and the thing that makes this edition special is that the story is told from the viewpoint of Ryuk.
They will also show some scenes of the new Death Note live action movie to be released on Feb 9th 2008.
Folks who are not in Japan will probably be able to enjoy "Death Note Rewrite" a few days after from your fave fan-subbers.
Just thought I would mention that I translated "Rewrite" from "リライト" which is also the same spelling for "Re-Light" - but I'm guessing its Rewrite ^^;

Nvr see this coming, really curious of what they're gonna show in the 3 hours. Guess it'll be interesting enough since it's from Ryuk's pov. Looking forward heh.

Speaking of Death Note.. A Chinese Plane just burst into a fireball in Naha, Japan. There were 165 People aboard, and all of them espcaped unhurt. On ground engineer was knocked off his feet by the force of the blast, but was unhurt. The pilot jumped out the cockpit at the last second.

I loved reading the deathnote manga up until the point where it just got ridiculous. If I finish the manga I'll definitely check out the rewrite.

bahhh! you got my hopes up with the intro to your post. I was hoping you ment that it was an alternate ending, seeing as the current one was a pile of over-ripe fish parts. Im still looking forward to it thoush, since ryuk was my favourite character. Thanks for the post !!!

A death god's POV, huh? Interesting. I was also hoping for an alternate ending - preferably one where Raito kills Matsuda slowly and painfully (I really despise that idiot - how on earth did he become a police anyway?). As for the movie, are the directors going to let the same actor play Raito? (They probably are.) That's a shame; that actor ruins Raito's image, both internally and externally.

Can't wait to watch this. Death Note was like the best anime ever up until the death of L where afterwards it kinda sucked already. heheh! ^^ Would like to see this though coz I'd like to know the story from Ryuk's perspective. :D Simply put...I like Ryuk! ^^

I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it from 'my fave fansubs'... Blame Odex for that. Sounds great, though. Hope you'll do an entry about it once you've seen it, Danny.

I was never a fan of Tatsuya Fujiwara as Light Yagami. The saving grace was Shidō Nakamura voicing Ryuk and Ken'ichi Matsuyama's wonderful performance as L in part I. Seeing Ryuk's perspective does sound somewhat appealing, but I am not a fan of fillers in general unless they are wrote and directed well (case in point: Full Metal Alchemist the anime).
